Fighting For You (The Callahans Book 5) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 1,320 ratings

An intense bad boy/good girl sports romance by New York Times bestselling author, Monica Murphy

Diego Garcia.

Bad Boy. Class bully. Football star.

We were opposites from the start. No one could have imagined the strong connection we shared, but I fell hard and fast for the edgy bad boy with the soulful dark eyes. He captured my heart and fell just as hard for me too.

We were inseparable and in love. The perfect couple. Until we weren’t.

Now senior year is here and we're both super busy. He has football. I have volleyball. And we have less and less time for one another. The distance between us grows every day until eventually, I hear the devastating rumors - Diego's cheating on me. And I feel like l lost the other half of my heart.

Breaking up with him is the hardest thing I've ever done, but thankfully there are only a few more months of school, and then I can leave for college. He’ll just be a sad memory in my rearview mirror.

Until I find out I’m pregnant and now I’m tied to Diego for the rest of my life.

Can we fight our way back to forever or is what we had not worth the fight at all?

Fighting For You is book five in the standalone Callahans series.

Review

"This book stole my heart. I loved every moment of Jocelyn and Diego." - Becky W., Goodreads reviewer

"Ever since I read Falling For Her, I fell in love with Diego and Jocelyn's story. I'm an ABSOLUTE sucker for second chance romance and when I heard Monica was going to write their story, I was over the moon.
This book is one of my highly highly highly anticipated reads of 2021 but also of my life because I've said I've been attached to this couple from day one. This book was everything and more!" - Sunny, Goodreads reviewer

"
I feel Monica Murphy captures the teenage angst beyond perfection in her new adult sports romance stories. The whole confusing emotional mess that gives me all the feels as Diego and Jocelyn fights for their future in Fighting For You." - PP's Bookshelf

"Young love isn't easy. It's messy and confusing and life changing. If you're able to withstand this, grow and sacrifice, change together, love will prevail. This is what Monica wrote so wonderfully and is every bit true of Diego and Jocelyn's journey. Their story resonated deeply with me. I sat for a long moment wallowing in my thoughts and feelings.
It was nothing short of absolutely amazing and I love Diego and Jocelyn with my whole heart. I love you to pieces, Diego Garcia." - LovelyNessReads

"
Once again, Murphy clearly write these Callahan series books like it's second nature. You can feel the passion she has for these characters and gives them the chance to rise above any obstacle." - MJ, Goodreads reviewer

"
This was a book I didn't know I needed! This is a story about redemption and second chances and also about discovering yourself." - Stacie R., Goodreads reviewer

"Diego and Jocelyn are more than I could have imagined. The push and pull of their relationship, and the back and forth was heart wrenching but also beautiful.
Fighting For You is so beautifully written and pulled out so many emotions in me." - Jennifer, Goodreads reviewer

"A love story interrupted in need of a second chance. From young love to adult heartbreak,
Murphy leaves an indelible mark with her brand of souls stirring romance." - Isha C., Goodreads reviewer

"
Oh my goodness! This book! I am so happy that we have the bad boy Diego's story finally and that we are continuing the Callahan series! I knew Monica would have her work cut out for her to get us readers to like Diego, and I can say that I believe she has fully redeemed him." - Brittany E., Goodreads

"
This story is about love, change and growing up. I am in love with how Murphy was able to capture that with Diego and Jocelyn because both of them had to grow up real quick. The struggle both characters went through in the book felt so realistic and rustic that I was sucked into their story from beginning to end." - Maria, Goodreads reviewer

Thrown into adulthood faster but getting there together with love and patience

Thrown into adulthood faster but getting there together with love and patience
Another hit for the Callahan series. Here we have Jake’s best friend Diego and his girl Jocelyn and what a story this is. I know that when I pick up one of Monica’s books I will fall hard for her characters Nd this one I fell even harder. Diego the boy with a big heart that gave it away to his one and only never expecting to get it back. Jocelyn the smart girl who had her heart broken by the one boy who owned it. Both growing faster than they ever thought and were even ready for. But grow they do and when they overcome their childish behaviors and brake the habits and toxic from their past they find that their future is that much more beautiful. Together they bring a beautiful miracle into the world and learn how to be better. Beautiful and real is what this story gives us a reality of this world that can be horrific when the one you love does not love you back. The future for Diego and Jos is pure and loving. Another hit!

Monica Murphy absolutely killed this story. From start to finish I was hooked. I devoured this book in one sitting, I couldn’t put it down. Diego and Jocelyn are more than I could have imagined. The push and pull of their relationship, and the back and forth was heart wrenching but also beautiful. Fighting For You is so beautifully written and pulled out so many emotions in me.

Diego and Jocelyn’s journey is certainly not an easy one. From the start I knew that this read was going to be quite the emotional rollercoaster ride of a journey but I was here for it! All of these feels had me twisted up in the best possible way, the teenage angst, the drama, the emotional toil, the yearning, the desire, everything and so much more had my heart racing, and had me sitting on the edge of my seat. And I have to say, the character evolution of Diego was nothing short of remarkable. I was completely in awe of his growth and maturity that he gained throughout the story. And by the end, I was fully rooting for him. I have fallen completely in love with Diego! Monica Murphy isn't afraid to write about heroes who are a bit rough around the edges and yet find that perfectly imperfect person who fits their souls the way no one else can. Diego found his soulmate in Jocelyn and despite all the stops, starts and resistance, this has been one wonderful journey.

Fighting For You is an inspiring journey filled with love, heartbreak, redemption and growth. Monica Murphy is one of my favorites ever and this story is exactly why. I loved every minute of this book, and it’s completely stolen my heart.

Ive really enjoyed this series so far and there were books i definitely liked more than others, but they have all been good and enjoyable. I have to say with book 5 of the Callaghan’s I liked it, i just didn’t love it. I thought the story line was different for a high school romance. Different in terms of the seriousness of the situations and emotions. I found it to be a little intense. The approach and journey of the story lost me at times. I went back and forth with these characters liking them one minute and not the next. Both the characters and the story were complex. It definitely keeps you on your toes. What really had me was all the sweet moments this couple shared where you thought for a moment nothing bad was gonna happen and there was this calm and peace. The best way i can describe this book is that it felt like Jenga. You can remove block by block but you never know what might happen in an instant. You can get lucky and the tower will remain upright or it could all crumble down in a nano second.Just when you think this couple is solid something comes along and blows it all to pieces leaving them to rebuild everything up again. The road to forever for these two seem long as hell and it is no way easy but something can be said when you know you’ve found your person no matter what they’ve put each other through and working at it and fighting for it makes up for all the hardships, add in the fact that they’re practically kids it makes for a very emotional read. Overall it was a good book and i hope you all will check it along with other others in this series.

Fabulous. Diego irritated me in earlier books but there were glimpses that more was going on in his life than we knew. He had moments where he would show that he did know how to be a great guy. We finally get to peel back the layers and really understand what makes Diego tick with all the crazy that happens at home and how it shaped him. Joslyn is so strong and brave. Pregnant as a teenager is scary but she faces this new challenge head on and works to be an amazing mom while building a great life for herself and her daughter. I loved that even though she loved Diego, she knew she had to find her own path before she could let him back in. The result is that Diego has to face his own issues and decide who he wants to be. Such a wonderful journey of growth and awareness for them both.

I haven't read the other books in this series. What drew me is that the couple have problems with OW, and she ended up pregnant, not OW. So with that said I enjoyed how the story evolved. The growing up and taking on the responsibility for their own actions was great. Can't wait to read the other books soon.

I really love Jocelyn and Diego's story. I didn't know what to be expect before I started, but by the end I was so happy for the two of them. There were times that their story made me emotional. In the previous books and at the beginning of this book, there is so much animosity between the two of them. Of course, Cami sticking her nose in their business and stirring up trouble didn't help things. Diego desperately wants to make things right with Jocelyn so she'll take him back. She still loves him but doesn't trust him. When he invites her to his house for Thanksgiving to tell his mom their news, she tells hesitant but agrees. Some stuff goes down with his brother while there, but helps Jocelyn to understand Diego better. They briefly get back together before Jocelyn ends things for good. The only time he sees her is when she gives birth to their baby. Since she refuses to see him, she doesn't know that he has actually changed. When she runs into him at a party, she doesn't know how to respond. Diego still has feelings for Jocelyn and is determined to win her back. They start to spend more time together with their baby, while growing closer together. I love the way this book ended. The story didn't feel rushed and the ending didn't leave me hanging. I'm excited to learn that Tony's book is next.

    Spanish & English Opinion

    ESP ::

    ENG ::

This series has wonderful characters. Every story has depth, interesting elements and that gives lovable people.

Diego was a villain. But he has the chance to tell his version and that makes all the difference. Yes, he has hard cards to play with, but he also grows up and leaves the excuses. He start owning his life and realizing how decisions have an impact whether we want that or not.

Jos also has a difficult moment, and struggles with judgement and decisions. But I liked that she was really aware of her feelings, of what she wanted and what she could give.

This book sends the important message of people not being hero’s or villains. We are people, and our decisions are the ones that shape us.

Wow, this book completely took me by surprise, or should I say Diego did. I did not expect to love him as much as I did. I absolutely loved the progression of both his character and his relationship with Jocelyn. Yet again Monica Murphy did not disappoint. Fighting for You was a brilliant read from start to finish. I enjoyed every single chapter. I'm already excited to start the follow on series when the first book releases in April.

I definitely will be continuing this series (including reading the previous books before this one) as I really enjoyed all of the characters and her writing.

This story followed teen mum, Jocelyn, and her bully ex-boyfriend, Diego. This story really focused more on personal growth, learning from your mistakes and realising how your actions effect other people. And I really applause the author for how she wrote about that.
After back and forth through their high school time, Jocelyn and Diego find themselves in a situation they never thought would be reality. With senior graduation not far away, and a baby due around the same time, do they choose to face the future together at the same college - or realise they’re relationship is toxic and spend some time apart?

Diego had a look at the bully in the mirror, and realised he didn’t want to be the person staring back at him. And Jocelyn realised she could be a strong independent woman needed to be a mum.

    Overall, 4 Stars.
