About the author

Matt Carrell quit the investment industry to spend more time writing stories. "I'd mapped out this great idea for stealing a billion dollars from my company, unfortunately the CEO found the plan on my desk. I had to tell him I was writing a book or it might have been jail time!" Vortex has since become a highly acclaimed novel with an equally well received sequel.
He started his writing career with Thai Lottery and Thai Kiss - focused on the darker side of Thailand's infamous nightlife.
Blood Brothers is a story about the always newsworthy Thai police - readers attest to its authenticity and Matt still finds passport control at Bangkok airport a daunting experience in case the authorities make the connection.
Turning his hand to films - Matt has recently received an award from TopShorts Festival for Best Original Story - for the screenplay adaptation of his short - Crazy Medicine. Now available on Amazon.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2019Format: KindleVerified PurchaseMatt Carrell comes across as a likable author who writes about likable characters with believable problems. Well, not all the characters are likable and the problems are not all solvable. Thank goodness for that. Carrell writes about the types of adventures where your best mate doesn't come down and bail you out of jail, he's sitting next to you reminiscing about the good parts, not what went awry. This tale goes off the rails in a very creative way. Truths, half-truths, and full blown lies. We've all been there. But this story takes the characters down a darker path than I like to go in real life. And isn't that why we read fiction - to be entertained? Highly recommend. Carrell comes across as a man of the world who would be equally at home with a bottle of Budweiser in front of him or a bottle of The Famous Grouse - maybe one of each? I hope to meet him some day.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 2, 2018Format: KindleWithout a doubt, 'A Friend in Need' is the best short piece of literary fiction I've read this year. Carrell's prose is reminiscent of some of Julian Barnes' work, and with a hint of Patrick Marber thrown in for good measure. Without wishing to give the game away, I will say it is a tense and diabolically clever tale of deception, which begins with a small lie and grows into something monstrous. Smart and firmly rooted in the London of its time. This edition also contains the screenplay of the short film version: hopefully, it will be made into a full-length film at some point. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another devious plot from Matt Carrell
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseMatt Carrell's best work to date. The plot is based on a simple, plausible and very clever lie that escalates out of control. During the story we follow the characters as the culpable and the seemingly innocent get enveloped by the plot, with all it's twists and turns. Great work and hopefully there will be a sequel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Matt Carrell excels again !
Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseAn exquisitely crafted short story of how strong bonds of friendship can be tested to the extreme, with a little white lie. Twists and turns and an unexpected ending which is the Matt Carrell trademark....
Highly recommended - along with Matt's other novels.
