The Free Trader of Planet Vii (Free Trader Series Book 2) Kindle Edition
He is a Free Trader from the north, with a vision of a world free from war. Braden and his companions have to decide what to do with the Old Tech from the ancient’s outpost. Can they bring it back to the world without every fortune hunter coming after them? Maybe they should expand the trade routes naturally, letting humanity reestablish itself slowly, without the help of Old Tech.
Braden's influence expands into the volatile south creating more conflict, more opportunities, and more strife.
Mutants, fearing the growing human presence, come after Braden and the others, hoping that they, and not the humans will dominate Planet Vii.
Martelle builds a world where humans and intelligent animals interact in an ongoing fight against the enemies of civilization. Allow your imagination to run free through this book and you’ll see humanity at its best.

About the author

Craig is a million-selling author of science fiction (post-apocalyptic, military sci-fi, and space opera), thrillers, and non-fiction.
Craig retired from the Marine Corps after a long career in the military intelligence community, having worked with most of the U.S. Government's three-letter agencies. After a short stint with physical security, Craig went to law school, graduated summa cum laude, and went into business consulting. From intelligence, to the inner workings of company board rooms, to on-the-ground leadership, Craig has seen it firsthand.
His books are an extension of his experience, putting the trials and tribulations of a fast-paced world into your hands. Whether in Science Fiction, Thrillers, Fantasy, or even his Non-Fiction, you'll find consistent themes of justice and doing right by those who are counting on their leaders. Leadership is a service, not a crown to lord over others.
No matter where Craig went, he always had a book with him. Thanks to 21st Century technology, He now has thousands of books at his fingertips and with him wherever he goes. How many books would he have read on deployments had he not had to carry a physical book?
No one is encumbered like that now. Craig loves the works of Robert Heinlein, Anne McCaffrey, Andre Norton, JRR Tolkien, Robert E. Howard, and so many more. He has been compared to Andre Norton and that is humbling - she was an incredible author with a huge list of novels to her credit. With every new book, Craig aspires to live up to those that you, the readers, have compared him to.
Through a bizarre series of events, Craig ended up in Fairbanks, Alaska. He never expected to retire to a place where golf courses are only open for four months out of the year. But that's the way it is. It is off the beaten path. He and his wife get to watch the northern lights from their driveway. Their dog has lots of room to run, just until temperatures reach fifty below zero. They have from three and a half hours of daylight in the winter to twenty-four hours in the summer.
It’s all part of the give and take of life. If they didn’t have those extremes, then everyone would live in the sub-arctic.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 8, 2016All the fun of Gamma World in one book, or 4, or more! Need more!
In this book Braden, G-war, Aidi, and Skrill find themselves in the south. There they meet Micha, a fierce warrior chick who has rejected the ways of her village to strike out on her own. She is open and accepting of the "mutants" once she realizes they are good and have a beautiful idea for the future of humanity. The trade is law, and if you follow the trade and have a pure heart, things will go well. Together the group finds an old tech strong hold they can use as a base, they set up trade between villages, and start making the world a better place, one deal at a time. They believe in what is best in humanity, and the message makes your heart feel good...even when they come across understandably evil elements like flying mutants who only want to kill, or violent humans. In this book we find the setup for the 3rd book, as Planet VI needs to be evacuated of it's very small population, and the ship that originally brought people (and old tech) to the planet is still in orbit.
A fun adventure, with a great female character. She is strong, has understandable flaws, has a loving and supportive relationship with Braden, balances her companions, and isn't afraid to throw a punch. Great read for everyone! Do it now!

would highly recommend this book and the series.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 15, 2018This is the second book in Craig Martelle's "Free Trader" series. This series tells the story of Free Trader Braden and his journey to bring freedom and prosperity to Planet Vii. In the first book Braden left his home in the north and moved south in search of items to trade. He ends up staying in the south to build a new community there. This book "Free trader of planet Vii" is the story of how Braden and his mate (Martelle's word not mine) Micah build a community in the south.
Braden and Micah travel across the south finding and uniting communities through the laws of trade: negotiate, agree, deliver. This is a series of vignettes tied loosely together. There isn't much character development but it is has a rapid pace and quite a lot of action sequences. This seems to be a book which is necessary to build the rest of the series. It feels a bit like an after thought but is fast, fun and frothy. It's an enjoyable read and a good gateway to the rest of the series.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 4, 2022In book 2 of the series, Braden, Micah and the companions work hard to establish trade routes and keep them running. They train new coup!es to regularly travel in sections of the route so a dependable schedule is established. They also train them to read and write, how to record their travels and transactions, above all to be honest in their dealings. The Amazonians are at war, Zalastar and his group have opposition from the ancient overseers, who are stirring up trouble in the tribes of the forest. They are also attacked by the bat-crows again, necessitating an attack of their own to try to remove them. Many are injured in the process and some of the creatures escape so they know another confrontation is in their future. In the meantime, Holly is working hard to interface with the ship in space to repair the transfer modules so they can rescue the people of Cygnus VI research station, who are in dire need. Never a dull moment in this installment of the story but the young couple find they are to be parents and their whole lives are about to change in ways they can't imagine!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 8, 2017Somewhat entertaining story of a post-colonization civilization of another world. Apparently the colonist fought a war and as a result, retrograded civilization to the iron age stage over a period of approximately 400 yrs. Although still retaining some "old tech", some genetically altered humans and animals have telepathic abilities. Story seems to be a discovery expedition by two of the telepathic people. Although they know "old tech" exists, and trade items of it, they seem unaware of the significance.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 29, 2024Yes, like Andre Norton Time Traders series and many of her other
books/ series! Like some of Robert Howard's writing.
I enjoyed the authors new spin on this! Read two books and enjoyed both!
