"I loved it! The characters are easy to imagine, explained just enough so your mind has something to do to fill in the blanks. The action is smooth and continuous and surprising. I couldn't wait to turn the page to find out what happens next." Goodreads Five-Star Review
About the Author
Although Craig has written in multiple genres, what he believes most compelling are in-depth characters dealing with real-world issues. The backdrop is less important than the depth of the characters, who they are and how they interact. Life lessons of a great story can be applied now or fifty years in the future. Some things are universal.
Craig believes that evil exists. Some people are driven differently and cannot be allowed access to our world. Good people will rise to the occasion. Good will always challenge evil, sometimes before a crisis, many times after, but will good triumph?
Some writers who've influenced Craig? Robert E. Howard (the original Conan), JRR Tolkien, Andre Norton, Robert Heinlein, Lin Carter, Brian Aldiss, Margaret Weis, Tracy Hickman, Anne McCaffrey, and of late, James Axler, Raymond Weil, Jonathan Brazee, Mark E. Cooper, and David Weber. Craig learned something from each of these authors, story line, compelling issue, characters that you can relate to, the beauty of the prose, unique tendrils weaving through the book's theme. Craig's writing has been compared to that of Andre Norton and Craig's Free Trader characters to those of McCaffrey's Dragonriders, the Rick Banik Thrillers to the works of Robert Ludlum.
Through a bizarre series of events, Craig ended up in Fairbanks, Alaska. He never expected to retire to a place where golf courses are only open for four months out of the year.

About the author

Craig is a million-selling author of science fiction (post-apocalyptic, military sci-fi, and space opera), thrillers, and non-fiction.
Craig retired from the Marine Corps after a long career in the military intelligence community, having worked with most of the U.S. Government's three-letter agencies. After a short stint with physical security, Craig went to law school, graduated summa cum laude, and went into business consulting. From intelligence, to the inner workings of company board rooms, to on-the-ground leadership, Craig has seen it firsthand.
His books are an extension of his experience, putting the trials and tribulations of a fast-paced world into your hands. Whether in Science Fiction, Thrillers, Fantasy, or even his Non-Fiction, you'll find consistent themes of justice and doing right by those who are counting on their leaders. Leadership is a service, not a crown to lord over others.
No matter where Craig went, he always had a book with him. Thanks to 21st Century technology, He now has thousands of books at his fingertips and with him wherever he goes. How many books would he have read on deployments had he not had to carry a physical book?
No one is encumbered like that now. Craig loves the works of Robert Heinlein, Anne McCaffrey, Andre Norton, JRR Tolkien, Robert E. Howard, and so many more. He has been compared to Andre Norton and that is humbling - she was an incredible author with a huge list of novels to her credit. With every new book, Craig aspires to live up to those that you, the readers, have compared him to.
Through a bizarre series of events, Craig ended up in Fairbanks, Alaska. He never expected to retire to a place where golf courses are only open for four months out of the year. But that's the way it is. It is off the beaten path. He and his wife get to watch the northern lights from their driveway. Their dog has lots of room to run, just until temperatures reach fifty below zero. They have from three and a half hours of daylight in the winter to twenty-four hours in the summer.
It’s all part of the give and take of life. If they didn’t have those extremes, then everyone would live in the sub-arctic.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 15, 2018This is the fourth book in Craig Martelle's "Free Trader" series. This series tells the story of Free Trader Braden and his journey to bring freedom and prosperity to Planet Vii.
Adventures on RV Traveller touched upon a war in the Amazon forest between different groups of lizard men (bear with me please). In this book, the fourth in the Free Trader series, Free Trader, President Micah and a cast of intellignet creatures have to end the war in the forest. This is the darkest of the books so far. Martelle brings the horror of war and the loss of friends and comrades to life in an imaginative way. The description of the horrors of jungle warfare are very well done. Martelle does understand small group weapons and tactics very well and applies this experties in an imaginative, creative and successful way.
The Free Trader series doesn't get a lot of love on Amazon. This will be the 16th review of this book. Fans of Craig Martelle's work should give this book a good look as it's some of his best writing. The character development isn't up there with the Nomad series but overall this compares very well with Martelle's best.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 2, 2016Part of the series..Also a Good Read. I have been ruined. Since reading this series and Craig Martelle's follow-on series Cygnus Arising, I can't find anything else to read that is as exciting to read and as well written. I absolutely loved this book. Branden and his Hellcat are outstanding characters, as are the other characters which are introduced as the book and the series continues. The story line is riveting and original. Yet, as one reads this series, one continues to think of the writing style of Ann McCaffery, with a bit of Andre Norton thrown in. I believe any Science-fiction reader who has read and enjoyed these writers, will absolutely love this series!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 7, 2022Action packed from beginning to end, this installment in the series concentrates on the fight to free the Amazonians from the grip of the Overlords and bring peace to their corner of the world. A trip back in space to the ship to collect volunteers from the wolf and Amazon tribes, and a vow never to return as the androids really creep them out. Home again where battle preparations begin for a trek deep within the rain forest to the Overlord stronghold, one half approaching from the south while the other comes in from the north. The trials of combat weed out many of the volunteers and the battle is close to being lost until help arrives from an unexpected source. I am really loving this series!

- Reviewed in the United States on August 2, 2018This book keeps the saga expanding with battles and new characters providing a lot of interesting reading. Can't wait to start the next book.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 3, 2018I like all the characters in the books in this series. It's also excellent science fiction. There's a lot of inter-species camaraderie and there's plenty of high adventure.
