Free Trader on the High Seas (Free Trader Series Book 6) Kindle Edition
An island where experiments on people yield horrific results. An undersea city populated by humans dragged from the beach by unrelenting Bots.
The Western Ocean, an untapped source of food and power. The freedom of the open seas. When the AI finds an open ocean exploration laboratory, the Free Trader and his companions head to sea in search of the abducted residents of White Beach.
The ocean welcomes them into its embrace as nature tries to reclaim its own, but that’s not the worst challenge that the companions face. What creatures lurk beyond the ocean’s waves, patiently waiting for new blood?
“Immensely Enjoyable! Fantastic story set in the far future on a distant previously colonised planet that has forgotten its past because of one of humanities favourite past-times, war. Being a big fan of sci-fi and post apocalyptic adventures this author has captured everything I love about these two genres and melded them in a wondrous land full of genetically engineered creatures and old technology forgotten by the majority of the humans on the planet. I'd recommend this book to anyone who likes a good sci-fi adventure.” Evan, Amazon Five-Star review

About the Author
Although Craig has written in multiple genres, what he believes most compelling are in-depth characters dealing with real-world issues. The backdrop is less important than the depth of the characters, who they are and how they interact. Life lessons of a great story can be applied now or fifty years in the future. Some things are universal.
Craig believes that evil exists. Some people are driven differently and cannot be allowed access to our world. Good people will rise to the occasion. Good will always challenge evil, sometimes before a crisis, many times after, but will good triumph?
Some writers who've influenced Craig? Robert E. Howard (the original Conan), JRR Tolkien, Andre Norton, Robert Heinlein, Lin Carter, Brian Aldiss, Margaret Weis, Tracy Hickman, Anne McCaffrey, and of late, James Axler, Raymond Weil, Jonathan Brazee, Mark E. Cooper, and David Weber. Craig learned something from each of these authors, story line, compelling issue, characters that you can relate to,the beauty of the prose, unique tendrils weaving through the book's theme.
Through a bizarre series of events, Craig ended up in Fairbanks, Alaska. He never expected to retire to a place where golf courses are only open for four months out of the year. But he loves it there. It is off the beaten path. He and his wife watch the northern lights from their driveway. Their dog has lots of room to run. And temperatures reach forty below zero. They have from three and a half hours of daylight in the winter to twenty-four hours in the summer.
It's all part of the give and take of life. If they didn't have those extremes, then everyone would live there.

About the author

Craig is a million-selling author of science fiction (post-apocalyptic, military sci-fi, and space opera), thrillers, and non-fiction.
Craig retired from the Marine Corps after a long career in the military intelligence community, having worked with most of the U.S. Government's three-letter agencies. After a short stint with physical security, Craig went to law school, graduated summa cum laude, and went into business consulting. From intelligence, to the inner workings of company board rooms, to on-the-ground leadership, Craig has seen it firsthand.
His books are an extension of his experience, putting the trials and tribulations of a fast-paced world into your hands. Whether in Science Fiction, Thrillers, Fantasy, or even his Non-Fiction, you'll find consistent themes of justice and doing right by those who are counting on their leaders. Leadership is a service, not a crown to lord over others.
No matter where Craig went, he always had a book with him. Thanks to 21st Century technology, He now has thousands of books at his fingertips and with him wherever he goes. How many books would he have read on deployments had he not had to carry a physical book?
No one is encumbered like that now. Craig loves the works of Robert Heinlein, Anne McCaffrey, Andre Norton, JRR Tolkien, Robert E. Howard, and so many more. He has been compared to Andre Norton and that is humbling - she was an incredible author with a huge list of novels to her credit. With every new book, Craig aspires to live up to those that you, the readers, have compared him to.
Through a bizarre series of events, Craig ended up in Fairbanks, Alaska. He never expected to retire to a place where golf courses are only open for four months out of the year. But that's the way it is. It is off the beaten path. He and his wife get to watch the northern lights from their driveway. Their dog has lots of room to run, just until temperatures reach fifty below zero. They have from three and a half hours of daylight in the winter to twenty-four hours in the summer.
It’s all part of the give and take of life. If they didn’t have those extremes, then everyone would live in the sub-arctic.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 2, 2016I have been ruined. Since reading this series and Craig Martelle's follow-on series Cygnus Arising, I can't find anything else to read that is as exciting to read and as well written. I absolutely loved this book. Branden and his Hellcat are outstanding characters, as are the other characters which are introduced as the book and the series continues. The story line is riveting and original. Yet, as one reads this series, one continues to think of the writing style of Ann McCaffery, with a bit of Andre Norton thrown in. I believe any Science-fiction reader who has read and enjoyed these writers, will absolutely love this series!

- Reviewed in the United States on September 12, 2022The companions are once again called upon to save their world from a growing danger, this time it's an underwater facility that has been capturing villagers who stray too close to the ocean. Micah's father Caleb is one of them and a rescue operation is underway. What they find when they get there is right out of The Island of Doctor Moreau strange creatures from failed experiments, the 'Professor' and an evil AI named Gloria who wants to build an army to rule the lands and the sea. They are very hard pressed this time, things look really grim at several points in the story, but help comes from an unexpected quarter . There's even a new addition to the 'family' and a promising future for an important member. This may be a YA series but I'm really enjoying it and I'm 71. The stories are action packed and flow well, I have trouble putting them down because it's hard to stop reading. Many a time I've looked to see the sun rising!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 5, 2018This is the sixth book in the free trader series written by Craig Martelle. In this book Braden, Micah, G-War and company try to solve the mystery of disappearances from the beaches of the southern continent. People are snatched from the shore by unknown robots. Amazingly and very conveniently an old tech ship is available which takes them to an island where they may be able to gain access to an underwater facility where the disappeared may be living.
Of course the island is inhabited by mutants and mad scientists who are planning to take over the world. This is a darker book than some where Martelle discusses involuntary cloning and gene experiments. All the while there is a mad AI to contend with. This moves along with Martelle's usual speed. There's lots of combat and enough humour to make this a good read and hide the philosophy. This is likely to be the best book in the series.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 21, 2022Another great adventure for the gang. They have to go to the underwater lab and rescue Caleb, Micah's father. Along the way they make new friends and encounter new enemies. Braedon is learning that he has to let go of control of the Free Trader lifestyle and accept his new responsibility to all of Vii. Another masterpiece. Enjoy!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 6, 2018Another good read in the series. Enjoyed every minute of it.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 10, 2016Pity the fools that took Micah's father for they shall know war.
This rescue mission will be under the ocean and isn't G-War just thrilled about that. But friends whether furless, furred, feathered, lizard, or shelled will see Micah's father and any others set free. Our hearty group of adventurers meets new species with whom they can share mind speech. A storm at sea is not an experience anyone enjoys, though. G-War may just kill Braden before this one is over. Evil clone scientists and an insane AI round out this adventure for our stalwart companions. Fast paced, huge and small surprises, fun, terror, love, and new friends. Not to be missed by fans of this series.
