Craig is a million-selling author of science fiction (post-apocalyptic, military sci-fi, and space opera), thrillers, and non-fiction.

Craig retired from the Marine Corps after a long career in the military intelligence community, having worked with most of the U.S. Government's three-letter agencies. After a short stint with physical security, Craig went to law school, graduated summa cum laude, and went into business consulting. From intelligence, to the inner workings of company board rooms, to on-the-ground leadership, Craig has seen it firsthand.

His books are an extension of his experience, putting the trials and tribulations of a fast-paced world into your hands. Whether in Science Fiction, Thrillers, Fantasy, or even his Non-Fiction, you'll find consistent themes of justice and doing right by those who are counting on their leaders. Leadership is a service, not a crown to lord over others.

No matter where Craig went, he always had a book with him. Thanks to 21st Century technology, He now has thousands of books at his fingertips and with him wherever he goes. How many books would he have read on deployments had he not had to carry a physical book?

No one is encumbered like that now. Craig loves the works of Robert Heinlein, Anne McCaffrey, Andre Norton, JRR Tolkien, Robert E. Howard, and so many more. He has been compared to Andre Norton and that is humbling - she was an incredible author with a huge list of novels to her credit. With every new book, Craig aspires to live up to those that you, the readers, have compared him to.

Through a bizarre series of events, Craig ended up in Fairbanks, Alaska. He never expected to retire to a place where golf courses are only open for four months out of the year. But that's the way it is. It is off the beaten path. He and his wife get to watch the northern lights from their driveway. Their dog has lots of room to run, just until temperatures reach fifty below zero. They have from three and a half hours of daylight in the winter to twenty-four hours in the summer.

It’s all part of the give and take of life. If they didn’t have those extremes, then everyone would live in the sub-arctic.

The cats have had enough, too much war and aggression has taken it's toll so they gather the other sentient species and decide to take back control of the planet. The cats are able to sense others with what they call a true heart, those who have compassion and caring for others. They can also sense others with dark energy, ruled by greed and aggression, who oppress their neighbors for their own benefit. The fight to free the oppressed and set up a free trade system goes on, the cats help by bonding with the new leadership to help keep them on the right path. It's a tough road but securing the future for the children of all species is important.

    great book and series

This is the 8th book in Craig Martelle's Free Trader series. In this book G-War has had enough of humans messing up and decides to take over. He decides to take the other mutated animals back to the north to fetch the rest of the Hillcats so that they can take over the world. The book divides neatly into three sections; crossing the desert, gathering the hill cats, taking over.
This is one of the better Free Trader books. Not as good as Book 6 but much better and more coherent that book 2 or 7 as an example. There are a few internal inconsistencies since bonded cats are not supposed to be away from their bond-mate for very long which as a concept gets thrown out of the window at the start of the book. This doesn't spoil the book at all but as a Free Trader Otaku it was noticeable. There is less combat than might be expected in a Free Trader book. The majority of the book is the crossing the desert section. This is a revisit of the first book but still works well. The politics of the Hillcats was interesting.
In many ways this book sets the scene for the shorter Cygnus Rising series. As a cat-slave I know they own the world. It's amusing to see this formalized at last.

This book was a long time coming but well worth the wait. G-war and Braden go back to the beginning with Micah's help. It is time for the cats to be an active part of Vii along with all of the other creatures that have evolved there. The king of snark is truly the king of cats. It's time the humans knew who real peace or else.

G War is on a mission to save humanity from itself. Braden and Micah, and their twins, and all the friends of theirs travel through the great desert to eventually come to the hill cats. What a watermarking goes on, there. A great story, now I need to go back and read all the ones I have missed.

Another awesome Free Trader book! This is just the best series, especially if you're an animal lover like I am. The cats especially are dead on. Can't wait for book nine!

If you look at cats as little humans with an attitude , you will enjoy this book. The companions scrapbook to solve problems in the planet.
