About the Author

Heather helps professionals and firms become the Go-To-Expert. Unusually for someone with an Engineering Degree, she accidentally became a writer and used her knowledge on social media to write the current best-selling and award-winning book on networking, The FT Guide To Business Networking. (75 five star reviews on Amazon) People frequently talk about Heather as someone who really knows her stuff - which may be the reason she has, over the last decade, worked with over 100 partners, coached and trained over 1000 professionals at every level of the UK's most ambitious professional practices.

Recently referred to as 'one of the UK's most influential 'tweeters'', the UK's 'networking queen' and "Twitter royalty", Heather has built a very large network online, with over 9500 Twitter followers in the last 3 years. She blogs on the subject of referral generation using networking and social media for professional services, and other issues involving partners who want to grow their practice.

Heather, ACC CIPD MEng (oxon) Hons, is a graduate from Oxford University in Engineering Science. (This may explain the spelling and grammatical errors which her editor is always having to remove from her manuscripts!) Her early career was in supply chain management, working for Procter & Gamble and Tesco. Before, she took the plunge into business ownership, she spent five years working for BDO LLP, a UK top 6 accountancy practice. She is an associate credentialled coach with the ICF, a chartered manager with the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.

In her spare time, she is often found perfecting the perfect gluten and dairy free lemon drizzle cake, as well as scootering around flitwick with her two young children.

Firstly, thank you for popping by! Let me tell you a little bit more about myself. I'm still working on the fiction writing skills, so for now, the truth will need to do...

Most Engineering Graduates from Oxford University don't go on to write award-winning business books.

Or sustain a high profile career as a Writer, Executive Coach and International Professional Speaker.

That's exactly what happened to me after I wrote The FT Guide To Business Networking & The Go-To Expert, plus co-authoring (with Jo Larbie) 'How to make partner and still have a life'.

Being up for a challenge is a constant theme for me, which is probably why I love helping professionals become the Go-To Expert. When I am not writing I can found increasing my waist line with my homemade gluten and dairy free cakes, or trying to decrease it as a fully-paid up member of the crocked slow-running club.

RECENT ACCOLADES & ENDORSEMENTS INCLUDE:

1) Helping my clients add over £1 million of fees to their client portfolios in the last 12 months

2) Judging the British Accountancy Awards in 2011 and 2012

3) Helping two of my small firm clients win awards at the 2013 British Accountancy Awards.

4) Economia decided I was in the 2013, top 50 influencers on finance & business on social media.

WHO I WORK WITH:

My work splits into 2 distinct and different camps. I am either working with potential partners helping them build their personal and business case to get to partner. Or working with owners & potential partners of small (under 10 partners) accountancy, consultancy and legal firms helping them with:

1) Consistently generating good quality new clients, helping to profitably grow their practice without having to cold call.

2) Building a strong & capable management team in order for the practice owner to increase their income from the practice whilst working less hours

3) Creating the next set of future partners, so that the firm’s current partners can retire knowing they will be able to get their capital out of the firm

4) Helping business book authors grow their business through writing their own book.

I feature regularly in the national & trade press, e.g. FT, Guardian, Sunday Times, Managing Partner, Legal Week, Accountancy Age. My clients have included: Deloitte, KPMG, BDO, amongst others.

To book me to speak please contact David Stoch at Meerkat PR, on 020 8563 0182. For any other work related enquiries, contact me directly.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is amazing
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 27, 2019
This book is really useful and I would recommend to anyone who is interested in sharpening their networking skills . I don't even have my own business (yet !) but just looking to see how I can improve as networking is huge part of the industry I am going into. Really well structured narrative and very easily accessible. Lots of useful tips and information that hadn't even crossed my mind , (i.e importance of branding , getting to know someone, visibility , credibility , presentation ) . The book focuses on online networking via the common sites (LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook , Google plus) as well as the offline environment via networking events, conferences, training events and groups. Ultimately networking is about building successful relationships in the first instance and this book is a really useful tool on how this can be achieved - it has certainly motivated me and made me feel like I could be doing much much more to achieve my goals.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best book for improved and optimized networking
Reviewed in Italy on October 4, 2015
One among the best books about business networking and how to be comfortable with this activity. It is not pitching, it is not selling, it is just about having a network of people where you can exchange contacts, create opportunities, win-win situations that will help both sides. Rethink that activity and your network will work for you.

Good book even though a little bit old (2014) - brings the necessary and comprehensive basis
Needs to be completed by specific updated books about LinkedIn, Facebook...
    A Must read nevertheless

5.0 out of 5 stars This book, if followed, will change your business and you for the better
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 2, 2015
This book is a true eye opener. All the missed opportunities of the past will not be let slip any more. The book is very informative, straightforward and explains that you are in control of networking and that you can do as little or as much as you like, but improves your effectiveness dramatically. I am a Barrister. Barristers traditionally do nothing to improve their market position - leaving it to others to do for them. This book gave me the insight to see how my work could be streamlined and focused whilst increasing in quality and quantity.
It is a must read for anyone who is coming from a standing start in business or who needs to refresh their position in the market.

5.0 out of 5 stars IMPROVE YOUR RETURN ON INVESTMENT IN NETWORKING
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 4, 2015
This is an excellent book, containing straightforward, common sense advice about how to get the most out of your networking. Most people have never had any training in how to network, yet they spend £100s if not £1,000s a year doing it. If you read this, you will certainly learn how to improve and leverage the investment you make in networking, in terms of both time and cash.
