Fair Catch: An Enemies-to-Lovers Roommate Sports Romance (Red Zone Rivals) Kindle Edition
As if things aren’t already tough enough as the only girl on a college football team, Coach had to go and assign Zeke Collins as my roommate.
A cocky kick returner and my brother’s best friend who should have been ripped of that title years ago, he’s as infuriating as he is undeniably sexy.
I hate him, and for good reason — reason I won’t ever let him forget.
He thinks because we grew up together that it’s his role to protect me, but all he does is get in my way, make me look weak, and piss me off more.
I tell him I can handle myself, and I’m hell-bent on getting that point across to him and the rest of the nation watching the only girl in collegiate football.
The pressure doesn’t get to me. The scrutiny? I’m ready for.
But sharing very thin walls with Zeke Collins? I wasn’t prepared for that.
And the more we’re forced together, the harder it is to distinguish that pencil-thin line between hating him… and wanting him.

About the author

Kandi Steiner is a USA Today and #1 Amazon Bestselling Author living in Tennessee. Best known for writing “emotional rollercoaster” stories, she loves bringing flawed characters to life and writing about real, raw romance — in all its forms. No two Kandi Steiner books are the same, and if you’re a lover of angsty, emotional, and inspirational reads, she’s your gal.
An alumna of the University of Central Florida, Kandi graduated with a double major in Creative Writing and Advertising/PR with a minor in Women’s Studies. Her love for writing started at the ripe age of 10, and in 6th grade, she wrote and edited her own newspaper and distributed to her classmates. Eventually, the principal caught on and the newspaper was quickly halted, though Kandi tried fighting for her “freedom of press.”
She took particular interest in writing romance after college, as she has always been a hopeless romantic and found herself bursting at the seams with love stories she was eager to tell.
When Kandi isn’t writing, you can find her reading books of all kinds, planning her next adventure, or pole dancing (yes, you read that right). She enjoys live music, traveling, hiking, yoga, spending quality time with her family (fur babies included) and soaking up the sweetness of life.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 22, 2025I think I would give this book a 3.5⭐️. I’m not sure why, but for some reason I just wasn’t a huge fan of the characters. I am hoping I will like the other characters in the series more than this one.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 15, 2025I figured this was another predictable, college sports romance, but the opening scene proved me wrong. This story was SO GOOD! And a whole lot more emotionally charged than I was expecting! Were some parts a little predictable? Sure, but this is romance, so a little predictability is par for the course.
Mostly, I loved how the FMC integrated herself into an organization that was so male dominated, and EARNED the respect of every man on the team by being a badass!
I highly recommend this book, and if you’re a crier, have a few tissues handy about 75% of the way through! ;)
- Reviewed in the United States on June 26, 2024I enjoyed this book for a few reasons, many of them having to do with Zeke!
First, I loved seeing Riley being a strong, kick-ass athlete competing with men. I loved that Zeke helped show her the importance of the mental aspect of sports. It's not just about talent, practice, and work ethic. The mental game is just as, or in my opinion, more important than the physical. While we got to watch Riley succeed and earn respect from her teammates, we also got to see her be human and struggle with her mental game that affects all athletes, regardless of gender.
Second, I am OBSESSED with the emotional intelligence of Zeke. The way he respected Riley's feelings about the accident and his role in it, and how he only stepped into conflicts in a supportive role was amazing, BUT the way he communicated his feelings in multiple scenarios is just😍. Now he's not perfect and makes mistakes, but he owns up to them and puts the effort forth to learn and grow from them.
All this being said, it's a three star rating because the way Riley handled incidents in her and Zeke's relationship did not sit right with me. The way she handled the third act conflict, which was completely unnecessary, was tough to get through. While I understand how upsetting it was, she NEVER took responsibility for her role in exacerbating the pressure on Zeke to finish his paper. Riley has a lot of emotional maturing to do, but I think having a partner like Zeke will be a huge help to her! I do enjoy them as a couple and wish we got to witness a few more domestic interactions between them.
I'm hoping they make appearance throughout the series. I will read book two!

It’s been a while since I’ve reread Fair Catch, so I had forgotten what this book was about, lol. I love them! The chemistry was sizzling off the pages. There were parts where I was just smiling and SWOONINGGGGGG! I’m becoming a sucker for those ‘enemies to lovers’ tropes.
This was a different type of sports romance, considering Rylie is on the same football team as Zeke—the only girl on the team. Rylie and Zeke grew up together, and he’s also her brother’s best friend.
I am not really a fan of the whole brother’s best friend trope, but I wasn’t as irritated by it as I normally would be. With the slump I’ve been in, this was a good reread.

Oh my word. 😱
This book had me by the throat. I read this baby in one sitting because I refused to put it down. All things adulting completely ignored and I have not a single regret. Kandi Steiner delivered in giving me the most tantalizingly addictive story.
Riley Novo, not just a kick ass athlete but the only girl on the college football team. Say what now!? I honestly couldn’t help but be in awe of her. She was a total spitfire with a stubbornness that was unmatched and sometimes frustrating. At the same time, I definitely empathized with her.
Zeke Collins, be still my beating heart, this man right here. Listen, I love me some Zeke ok. Charming and protective. Incredibly thoughtful. He wasn’t perfect, but he owned his mistakes. I loved how in touch he was with his emotions and not afraid of being vulnerable. He always led with the best intentions. His heart is what stole mine.
I seriously loved the way this book was written in regards to sports and romance. It’s one of the best sports romance books I’ve read. As two athletes, there’s this unique understanding and appreciation that Zeke and Riley have for each other and what they do. Their grit, passion and dedication to not only to the sport they love but each other just captivated me. I never realized how much of a sucker I am for this kind of dynamic and thanks to Kandi, the craving for more of it has only intensified.
The angst, the sexual tension, the banter, my goodness it was all so delectable. 🥵🔥
This was kind of read that just had it all. Zeke and Riley were straight up enemies to lovers and brother’s best friend per-freaking-fection and I did not want to see their story end. 😭

5.0 out of 5 stars Fair Catch
*ARC provided by Valentine PR*
Are you ready for a new sports romance by Kandi Steiner? In Fair Catch you can see, through the words, all the love and passion the author has for football.
As if things weren't hard enough for Riley, being the only girl on the college football team, the coach rages against her status and assigns Zeke as her roommate.
Riley isn't Zeke's biggest fan, she actually hates him and has good reason to feel this way.
Having grown up together, however, Zeke feels strongly that he should protect her, but Riley is strong and independent and doesn't need him. He's just in her way.
Riley wants to put distance between them, but living together and being in close contact every day only makes things difficult.
Once you start a Kandi Steiner novel, it's almost impossible not to devour it right away.
She puts herself into every story and, as I said at the beginning, the love she feels for football shines through in this one. Those who follow her on social media are aware of this.
The story between Riley and Zeke was born as a hate to love, it's clear from the start the hatred that Riley feels towards her roommate, but what I noticed though is her acceptance of this.
You can tell from the get-go that Zeke, since his teenage years, has been harboring something towards Riley. He was just waiting for the right time to manifest it to the world.
I personally loved the personalities of both main characters, their stubbornness, their strength, but also their weaknesses.
They were well structured and linear with the story.
Compared to the author's previous novels, the angst in this novel is barely noticeable. It is only found in the final part.
We know Kandi is the queen of angst, but lately she's been losing her touch, but that doesn't mean I'm not enjoying her books. Quite the contrary!
If you're looking for a sweet sports romance, then Fair Catch is for you! Don't let it pass you by.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nothing much
I was enjoying this book until we've reached the questionable issue between the couple that led to the inevitable third-act break up we all knew it's coming. That was just poor ploting and even poorer character building all around. Just made me hate them both and the autor.

5.0 out of 5 stars A girl in a Football team
This book is really good because it is a brand new trope : the first girl in a college football team. There is a lot of actual games and practices in the book. Zeke is her brother's best friend but he is not in good terms with Riley..because she hates him... Their story is great and it was really interesting to learn more about mental coaching.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just WOW
This book.... OMG I didn't expect to like it so much. The only reason that this book is a 4.25 and not 5 star is because I didnt feel as connected to it as I did for clay and giana. But I devoured every bit of this book and OMG ZEKEEEEEEEEE. OH GOD,that guy legit has my heart. loved loved this book so much I can't even... Go and read this already and I can't wait to read Holden's story next

4.0 out of 5 stars A cute romance story with some great tropes.
I enjoyed this book, it had a cute storyline and I liked watching these characters on their journey. Zeke and Riley are both college freshman on football scholarships, and have also know each other since they were kids. Zeke is best friends with Riley’s twin brother.
There is so much chemistry between this two and an underlying connection you can’t help but smile at. However, there is also a lot of history and strife. The past between these two have created a wall between them, one that Riley never fully let’s down. Riley had a hurt she held on to.
But, the more time they spent together the more they started to regain the friendship they once had. There was so much more understanding and care they both showed towards each other it allowed them to develop their friendship into something so much more.
But, one mistake has Riley running from everything they worked so hard to build. These two both have some things to work through and you can’t help but root for them to find their way back to one another and discover something great in themselves.
I loved all the side character, the rest of the team and Riley’s brother Gavin. Since Zeke and Riley are teammates we are a good amount of football training and games and I really enjoyed the emotions that brought forth, since being a college athlete is other extremely challenging and rewarding.
If you love a good brother’s best friend, college sports romance with a kick butt heroine who is paving her own way (and leaving her mark) in a male dominated field, this one is for you!
