Fake Dates and Fanged Mistakes Kindle Edition
Julian
This week hasn’t gone the best for me unless you count Casimir, the sexy ancient vampire, bringing me back from the brink of death (and tying my fate to his in the process). Not that it matters if the werewolves and vampires don’t stop their ridiculous feud, because someone is targeting them and widening the divide between our communities with each body they leave in their wake.
But as the alpha’s son, I have a plan to fix everything. I’m going to convince Casimir to fake date me to show the others that we can work together.
I mean… what could go wrong?
Casimir
Everything.
Literally everything could go wrong. Who is actually going to believe that I want this joke-cracking, cute werewolf tagging alongside me?
Honestly, do I even care if people get along? I really think I have much more important things to do than going on hardware store dates, learning the torturous art of holding hands, and attending awkward family dinners, like… staring at my dog… and… I’m sure there’s something else.
Okay, fine, maybe this whole fake dating scheme isn’t the worst idea that I’ve come across in the past five hundred years, but it’s definitely in the running. The two of us are just going to have a bit of fun while I stop whoever’s hunting down the vampires and werewolves… right?
Fake Dates and Fanged Mistakes has a sunshiny yet stubborn werewolf who just wants everyone to get along, dang it; a bored vampire who isn't nearly as aloof as he wants to appear; paper napkins trying (and failing) to stand in for clothes; some awesome swordsmanship; and the last thing you’d expect to find in a secret cupboard.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 8, 2025Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWell, these two have that top-notch banter you want in a couple. Julian, the son of the werewolf Alpha who wants nothing to do with the pack, is attacked and inevitably saved by Casimir, the top vampire of the territory. When tensions grow among the vampires and werewolves to the point that no one may survive, the two decide to fake the date to ease it. Well, that doesn't exactly go to plan, yet the two grow close and learn that maybe they were meant to be together, and together, they can be stronger.
Their dating antics are, omg, what am I reading? Could this actually be happening? Yes, yes, it is, and it's bloody brilliant. With a common enemy lurking, the two sides need to accept and unite at least unite enough not to unalive the other side. A great start to a new series from Alice Winters.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 21, 2025Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis book is sweet, entertaining, and laugh-out-loud funny. It's quite silly but has a good storyline that makes you want to keep reading to find out how it will end.
I would have liked the characters to be more three-dimensional; I wish there were more information about their backgrounds to give them more depth. I also wish we could learn why Julian is so different from any other wolf and what the blood connection between Julian and Casimir means. I hope some of that is revealed in the next book!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 21, 2025Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseJulian and Casimir will forever hold a special place in my heart. This book was soooo funny, I had to warn my partner that I was going to be laughing to myself throughout the day. And I was. I absolutely love the chemistry between the two MMCs, absolute TOP TIER banter and the whit. The side characters were fun, the mystery was compelling, and the jokes hit just right.
I half listened to the audiobook, and half read this on kindle and I’m so sad the 2nd book isn’t available in audiobook yet, but that just means I’ll be up all night reading it.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 14, 2025Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI love Alice Winters writing. This is far from the first book by them that I've read, and it definitely isn't going to be the last. This book was well written and fun to read. The characters were just so relatable and funny. I fell completely in love with them, excluding the main bad guy. I'm not going to put any spoilers in this. But I really hope that she writes spin-offs for Cyrus, Ezio, and even Yorick. They deserve a story of their own. Anyway, I really encourage you to buy this book if you like paranormal romantic comedies with a side of crime thriller. I'm off to read the next book in this duo. Thank you, Alice Winters, for sharing your work. I love you and your books.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 17, 2025Format: KindleVerified PurchasePart mystery, part thriller, part rom-com, all adding up to a wonderful original story. I loved the characters you’re supposed to love, hated the characters you’re supposed to hate, and suspected everyone of everything! A great read!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 5, 2025Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThe book was a bit over the top. I mean her stories usually are and I've loved her other books I've read. Not a fan of Casamir, his personality and how he comes across is just... harsh. I didn't particularly think the chemistry between he and Julian was electric.
I enjoyed the plot and funny parts bit I won't read the second book. Overall 4 stars!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 23, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis is definitely on the light hearted side of the fence, even the serious moments ended with me laughing. There is one scene with a police officer that I am STILL laughing about.
Julian (werewolf) surprised me by being “real”, not just a fake sunshine character. He wasn’t afraid to speak up when he was afraid of something or when he had ouchies. I loved him for it. I mean he’s a total cheese ball of happiness but with depth.
Casimir (vampire) also surprised me because he wasn’t just the grumpy foil to the sunshine character. He was freaking funny! While being a growly grump. I definitely need more of his backstory.
The supporting characters were, as always in a Winters book, superb. Ezio cracked me up, especially in the police officer scene. I can already see the spinoff series with him and the human detective Cyrus. Julian's relationship with his family members was so darn funny! The personalities there were hilarious.
The plot was solid with mystery, investigation, and resolution. Just how I like it. The dual POV was excellent, their inner voices were distinct and it was easy to tell who was talking.
This is another solid, funny, romantic, and enjoyable new series from the amazing Ms. Winters. I have zero regrets about preordering it! I absolutely recommend reading it!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 16, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseReally loved this book, Julian and Casimir were great MMC’s and Ezio is a great side character. Everything was very well written, and you could really feel it in your chest from the beginning. I loved how Julian and Casimir grew from rivals to friends and how good Julian was for Cas. I was semi-worried that Julian’s ‘nice guy’ persona was going to be his main character trait, and it kind of was, but he was still a cool guy. I do kinda wish I could have seen him shed a bit of that, but was at least glad to see his dad and others weren’t taking advantage of it to the same degree with Cas on his side, and Cas really benefited from Julian’s sunshine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mysteries, murders, romance and fangs
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseA fun and wild new series with a cast of paranormals that hate each other all thrown together with one guy who just doesn't quite fit in and another who is in charge but only sort of cares about that. Add in some weird and confusing villains, unexpected powers, peculiar backstories, and plenty of ridiculous non-romance and you have this book!
Julian is a werewolf but he hasn't ever felt all that bound by it and essentially just goes about his normal life except for the full moon. He is supposed to dislike the vampires who run his city, but doesn't really care, and he is supposed to need a pack, but doesn't want one. Mostly Julian stays away from the paranormal until it unexpected draws him in with an attack. With this attack having lead vampire Casimir nearby and both increasing animosities between vampires and werewolves as well as highlighting a new threat, Julian comes up with a great solution. Fake date Casimir to make everybody happy with each other.
This idea is a lot of fun and of course initially goes over like a lead balloon. Casimir has been a vampire for a very long time, likes his privacy, and is all around a bit of an odd duck. He doesn't really seem to know how to romance and be doesn't know how to deal the the sunshiney Julian always being around. But the threats keep piling up and unexpectedly, working together does actually have some benefits for their two people's. When their fake dating tips over into their real lust which open up the possibility of deeper feelings it just gets even more interesting. Add to all of it the fact that the villain insists he has good reason to go after them and there is a mystery on hand. It all worked together well and created a great story.
There is still plenty to move forward that promises other great books in this series. Casimir is powerful and could have threats to his territory again, or just as equally he could have to figure things out further with the werewolves as he keeps up his relationship. Julian is now more involved in the paranormal and he has his own weird secrets which are turning even weirder around Casimir. Between the secrets and the threats and the wild and ridiculous romance there is plenty more to come and it promises to be great reading the whole way!

5.0 out of 5 stars Snarky Romance
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseVery enjoyable enemies to fake dating to lovers . MM characters a vampire and a werewolf. Very snarky characters, and enjoyably bonkers. A fun light read, if light includes lots of killing, some hot sex, and a floozy poodle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious, witty and over the top
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis book had me laughing like a maniac in public places — totally worth the strange looks. The banter between Cas and Julian is pure gold; it’s like watching two caffeinated squirrels try to solve a murder with nothing but sarcasm and very questionable decision-making skills. Every page was packed with sharp wit, unexpected twists, and the kind of chaotic energy that makes you wonder how they haven't accidentally gotten themselves arrested yet.
And let’s be honest — Gustov the dog absolutely stole the show. If there were an Oscar for fictional pets, Gustov would be giving an acceptance speech and probably biting someone’s pant leg for good measure.
I’m already itching to dive into book two. If it’s even half as hilarious as this one, I might need medical supervision. Highly recommend for anyone who likes mystery, murder, and enough sass to fuel a small country.
