Faked: A bad boy sports romance (Ward Sisters Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 10,111 ratings

I should’ve known better than to swap places with my twin sister.

No one would ever believe that
me, Claire Ward—the straight A student who never gets in trouble—, would impersonate her sister just to earn a night out with the guy she’s crushed on forever. But how else could I get her best friend Finn to notice me?

It would’ve worked perfectly. Except Finn wasn’t the guy to pick me up that night.

In Finn’s place—wearing a perfectly tailored tux and looking like sin—is his brother, Bauer. Finn’s exact opposite in every way, my date for the evening is a tattooed snowboarder with a sexy smirk and a chip on his shoulder the size of Mt. Olympus.

I should’ve known better. Because now the good girl is stuck with the bad boy for the night, and the consequences of that are much bigger than I could have imagined.

Review

"This book is smart, it's sexy and it's just the kind of romance I love. Packed with honest, flawed characters who make you fall for them - even when you want to throttle them!" - Michelle, Goodreads reviewer

"
Beautifully written, angsty and witty, this book is a definite must read." - Author Anna B. Doe

"I have loved the Ward sister's since The Marriage Effect and the fact that they are getting their own stories gives me
all the feels. And let me tell you, Karla keeps DELIVERING for my girls! I loved Molly's book but this book for Claire. WOW." - Stacie R, Goodreads Reviewer

"Sorensen has hit her stride with the Ward family. Somehow, each book is just as good as -- perhaps even better than --the one before. If I needed an author to write my happily ever after, Sorensen just might be the one I'd pick.
Her books make my heart happy." - Kindled Souls Book Blog

"This was a match made in heaven. It was sweet and sexy and
all kinds of perfect, and I couldn't get enough of either of them." - Author Ellie Isaacson

Make-my-heart-happy romance

Make-my-heart-happy romance
“This feeling was so incredibly delicious, so addicting, I could understand why people chased it with two grasping hands once they knew it existed.” Karla Sorensen has hit her stride with the Ward family. Somehow, each book is just as good as — perhaps even better than —the one before. If I needed an author to write my happily ever after, Sorensen just might be the one I’d pick. Her books make my heart happy. Faked was not at all what I expected, yet it was absolutely perfect. Claire is the Ward sibling most likely to be overlooked. Not as outspoken as her twin sister, she can go unnoticed at times. That is until she meets Bauer. Bauer sees Claire. She’s not just half of a set. She’s not interchangeable with her twin. Likewise, Claire sees beyond Bauer’s bad-boy reputation. The heat and chemistry between these two is *chef’s kiss* perfection.

This was SO GOOD! It’s my first time reading something by Sorensen, and I might just need to go a little one-click crazy on her books, because it was FLAWLESS from start to finish. Twin swaps are a guilty pleasure trope of mine because they can play out in a variety of ways and there’s a level of tension that just works for me. This is the kind that’s executed just right, so it won’t hit on any of the things that might bug some readers – it’s definitely not a love triangle, there’s no question that these two are perfect for each other, and the backstory is handled with care. I was incredibly impressed by how well Sorensen structured the relationship, because a story that starts out with the “wrong” brother and the “wrong” sister can go down a questionable path quickly, but that is definitely not the case here. It’s got so much great dialogue, characters who are complex but easy to like, tension that comes from the CHEMISTRY that sparks between them, and a bad boy hero who will absolutely melt your heart. I loved every minute of it.

The story follows Claire, a 21-year-old who has been harboring a secret crush on her twin’s best friend for years. Though she was able to put it behind her for a long time, its recently resurfaced, so Claire’s more willing than she probably should be to step into her sister’s shoes for an event. Thinking she’ll spend an evening with her crush (albeit, while pretending to be her sister), Claire is shocked when her crush’s brother shows up instead. Nothing like his brother, Bauer is tattooed and temperamental, the outcast of his family. Bauer’s always been more of a good time guy, but there’s no way he’s turning down his chance to spend the evening with the kind of girl he’s only ever dreamed of ending up with. As the two navigate the complexities of the evening, there’s no denying that they’ve got the kind of chemistry you don’t see every day.

I loved the opposites attract feel, the deep conversations, and the level of depth that’s achieved over the course of such a short time. These two have never met before, so they’re starting fresh and getting to know one another in a way they wouldn’t have considered before. It plays out like it’s in real time, and the reader definitely feels like they’re falling along with these two. There’s something incredibly enticing about a bad boy being so vulnerable, opening himself up to something new and different. Bauer is definitely that guy; you will fall for him within minutes of their first meeting. This stays light and reads quickly, but absolutely touches on some subjects that aren’t easy. I devoured it at an embarrassingly quick speed, and can’t wait to check out more from the author. I was lucky enough to receive an ARC (then purchased it for my collection) and am voluntarily leaving a review of this opposites attract romance.

After meeting the Ward sisters in a previous spinoff series, I was excited to see how these characters grew up and the love they would find themselves in. But if you haven't read that series (The Washington Wolves), you definitely can read all these Ward Sisters books as standalones.

Claire is a twin to Lia. These two are identical in many ways that some people can't even notice the difference between them. When Lia needs a huge favor, she comes to Claire for her to take her place at an event that she needs to attend with her BFF Finn. Claire is uncomfortable with the situation, but she's had a crush on Finn forever and figures this is the best time to get time with someone she's crushed on forever that has never even given her the time of day.

OOOO...twin switch with sister's best friend? I couldn't wait to see where this was going to go. BUT Karla Sorensen switched this up and gave me the unexpected that I loved even more! Because not only did the sisters pull a twin switch, but Finn couldn't make it and had someone else come in his place. His "bad boy" brother that everyone seems to be against.

I loved Bauer and Claire right from the start. Bauer may be a stereotypical bad boy, but I think he just needed someone to get underneath his skin and understand him. He was way more aware of what was around him than anyone gave him credit for and that endeared me to him, even when he was acting cocky at the beginning. And Claire was the type of girl that was always in the background, smart, but not really wanting to be noticed. When she actually makes an effort, it falls apart, but not in Bauer's eyes at all.

After a mixed bag beginning to these two meeting, I was totally on board with the trip they had to make and then getting snowed in. It gave these two a chance to warm up to one another and really get to know what made each other tick. Bauer was actually super sweet and let it be known about his interest in Claire right from the beginning and that was darn attractive. It took Claire a little to come around, but that part allowed her character to shine and for us to see her growth in who she was. I just adored them and liked the emotional pull they had and how much they ended up having each other's backs.

If you like the twin switch with fake dating, forced proximity and opposites attract, I think you'll enjoy this book. It had the feel good swoons with an emotional layer that made it authentic. It is a quicker read that just makes you feel good with characters that make a believable connection. And with a tease to Lia's story next, I'm excited to see the man that will twist her up.
