    Avery, Avery, Avery … I really didn’t expect to swoon for him as hard as I did. He is broken and hurting and trying to find the courage to be on the outside what he feels on the inside. He finally decides to push back against his domineering father and calls upon the least likely candidate to help: his high school love, Rory, who Avery left behind when he ran away from who he is out of fear.

    Rory is a great character: open, accepting, encouraging and willing to fight for what he believes in. He’s the perfect support for Avery, who is digging deep to find love, mainly for himself, but also from a partner - namely Rory. Particularly in the early parts of the book, Avery’s isolation and loneliness are so evident and poignant, your heart can’t help but break for him. There’s a line in particular where Avery meets Rory’s cat, a stray that Rory took in, and Avery remarks how that is just like Rory, with his heart of gold always willing to take in and love the cast-offs, the loners and those who need it. Avery then whispers to the cat, “He probably won’t keep me though.” My heart. That monologue epitomizes Avery - alone, desperate to be seen and loved and not believing that anyone would want to. We then watch him timidly come out of his shell over the course of the book … it gets you right in the feels.

    There’s nothing particularly novel about the premise or even the events that transpire in this book, but the characters are so well crafted and the romance is so well done, it really makes the book something altogether different. I highly recommend you give this a read so you can meet and fall for Avery too. You do not have to read the prior books first, although you might prefer reading Surprise Groom before reading this since the main characters show up prominently here and many of the events of Surprise Groom are referenced.

    Although I love all of DJ's books, I struggled a little with this one.
    I know it's just for drama, but I was having angst over this one.

    Drake Kincaid was really getting on my nerves. I hated his constant blackmailing of his son. While I was rooting for Avery and Rory, the setbacks drove me crazy.
    Rory wanted to help Avery realize his potential, but only Avery could bust out from the chains of his father and past life.
    It all resulted in an HEA and that's all that matters.

    Faking a Groom is the third book in the Martial Bliss series and could easily be read as a standalone; however, I strongly recommend the entire series. This book is a contemporary romance with a second-chance-love trope, forbidden/fake relationship trope, and friends-to-lovers trope, which are all set against a political backdrop. The politics, while an important plot device, are not overwhelming and do not take over the book. D.J. Jamison has written a beautiful love story with a sweet (and hard earned!) ending. There was angst, suspense, and then that beautiful taste of sweet victory when the main characters overcome all their obstacles. I was cheering for Avery and Rory and felt so satisfied when they got their happy ending.

    The characters for Faking a Groom are really interesting and well crafted. Avery is a complex man with competing loyalties to his father, his career, and his heart. Avery had to grapple with these different elements and figure out what was truly important to him—this took sacrifice and a lot of growth. Rory was awesome. I enjoyed his spirit and dedication, but also appreciated his softer side. He, too, had to reflect on his own priorities and determine what he truly wanted in his future. Together, these two main characters had a beautiful romance (with some amazing, hot sex scenes).

    The audiobook was narrated by Wyatt Baker who did a great job. Wyatt has a really pleasant narrative voice that worked really well for this book. He narrated each character distinctly and made it very easy to follow along in the story. I also enjoyed his performance which strikes a nice balance between performative but not over-the-top. The audiobook production was well done and made for a great listening experience.

    I liked this book but felt I wish I had read the prior book so as not to feel left out so to speak on the story.
    Avery & Rory were a fun couple but again I felt left out as I had to piece together information within the book.
    The story was good but seemed to lack a bit in places for me.

    I thoroughly enjoyed reading this series of 3 books by DJ Jamison, and would have rated it with 5 stars if it weren’t for the numerous grammatical errors in each book that should have been corrected in the editing and proofreading process. I didn’t come across any spelling errors that would have been picked up by spellcheck, but there were instances of missed words, extra words and wrong pronouns in sentences making them grammatically incorrect.

    The stories in the Marital Bliss series just keep getting better. Rory and Avery decide to fake an engagement to get Avery’s father, the Senator, to pull his support from some anti-LGBTQ legislation, but find the feelings they once had for each other at school may have been deeper than either of them were willing to admit. I loved these characters – Rory’s toppy independence and willingness to accept Avery for the man he is now, and Avery’s sexy vulnerability and determination to explore all of the facets of his masculinity… what each of them brings to the table individually and what they become together has resulted in yet another unforgettable ‘Marital Bliss’ couple that you will definitely hope to see again in the series. There are all the feels and heat here that you would expect in a DJ Jamison book, plus some lingerie kink and lip gloss! Highly recommended!!

    I enjoyed a lot this book. A fake engagement, but with true feelings involved, It couldn't stay "fake". The best example that again the road to happiness Is accepting oneself not matter external pressure to find love and a forever. Rory and Avery made a wonderful couple and their story even with all the angst and intrigue is a lesson in how we cannot give people power over our happiness. A sweet and inspiring love story.

    I loved this book. Avery in particular is such an intensely complex character. Having spent a lifetime hiding at his politician father's request he is finally done hiding in the shadows. I have such a sweet spot for Avery, trying to break free of the toxic thoughts that his father has been force feeding him since he was a teen proves very difficult. I love how determined he is to be true to himself, not just in his sexuality but in how he expresses it. Rory and Avery were childhood sweethearts but split when Avery was unwilling to come out. When Avery's dad throws his considerable weight behind a bill that would hurt the LGBT+ community the pair decide to fake an engagement to try and derail his plans. As they reconnect Rory realises that he may have been too quick to judge Avery's motives and becomes his biggest supporter.
    I love the fact that Avery's layers are peeled back bit by bit, we get a real sense of the psychological conditioning that he has been subjected to and watching him slowly overcome the image of what he should be as opposed to who he is. Rory is the best sort of cheerleader, not too pushy but allowing Avery to become more true to himself.
