Falling For Her (The Callahans Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 2,092 ratings

An opposites attract, boy obsessed sports romance by New York Times bestselling author, Monica Murphy

Jake Callahan. Quarterback. Prince of the “it” crowd. The most popular boy in the senior class.

Ridiculously gorgeous and too sexy for his own good.

All the girls want him. All the boys want to be his friend.

Me? I can’t stand him.

He’s my mortal enemy and he hates me.

Or so I thought.

What I mistook for hatred turns out to be...interest. There's that thin line between love and hate, right? And I guess our connection makes it easy to cross that line. Whatever it is between us makes me crazy. Our chemistry is so intense, sometimes I can't bear it. Yet I also can't resist it.

And neither can he.

Together, we make no sense. We couldn’t be any more different. The odds are against us. His friends definitely don't approve. I'm not a part of their crowd and I don't fit in, or so they say.

But that doesn't stop him from falling for me.

And it won't stop me from fighting for him.

Fighting for us and our forever.

Falling For Her is book two in the standalone Callahans series.

From the Author

"I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings," she murmurs morosely.

"You're forgiven."

She lifts her head when I say that, her plump lips turned upward, and I'm hit with a sudden flash of wanting to kiss her.

Yeah. No. Not going to happen.

"Great, thanks so much," she returns, then gestures toward my blank sketchpad. "You better get started. She's going to want to check out your technique."

"I've got the best technique in this school, don't you know?" I can't help but say, and Hannah's cheeks turn pink again.

She's really cute when she blushes.

"Don't be a perv," she says, grabbing my discarded pencil and pointing it toward me. "Start drawing."

"Do I have to?" I slide my fingers onto hers, my thumb curling around hers before I pluck the pencil from her grip.

"Y-yes. You do." Her voice is shaky, and I wonder if my touch affected her.

I hope it did. All I have to do is look at her and she affects me.

Whatever's happening between us is confusing.

"I didn't listen to a word the teacher said," I tell Hannah, and she scoots her chair closer to mine, launching into the same lecture Sanborne did, almost word for word.

I listen to the rhythm of Hannah's speech, the excited way she speaks. She loves art, I can tell, and she genuinely wants to help me. I stare at her mouth, the way it moves, how her front teeth protrude the slightest bit, giving her this sexy overbite. I'm entranced, caught up in her spell and when she finishes lecturing me with the faintest smile on her face, all I can do is smile in return.

"Oh. So you do smile," she says softly.

I turn it into a frown. "No I don't."

She laughs, and I soak up the sound.

It's just a pretty as I thought it would be.

Amazing High school romance!
4 out of 5 stars
Amazing High school romance!
I love one week girlfriend series and reading this one was amazing. Jake was one of a kind and although there were times where I didn't understand his anger until it was explained he annoyed me a teeeny bit. Other than that I thought his and Hanna's story felt unique and cute. It was such a light read I enjoyed myself while reading it. I kinda want to see what happens in the next installment! I cannoy wait for Avas and Eli's story. Their story seems like it will be GREAT! this story didnt fee like an enemies to lovers... maybe at first a bit but it was more of a friends to lovers in my opinion. For YA novel i found it was very pleasant to read.

I'm not doing a comprehensive review that picks apart the story and outlines the whole thing. But I just want to say, I read a lot of romance books, especially high school bully tropes, and this one was refreshing because it departed from the rich, cruel, alpha male who bullies and makes the female miserable.

The main male character is a teenage boy and thinks and behaves like one. The same with the main female character. They have a youthfulness, innocence, freshness to their interactions that actually made me break out into a full "awww" smile several times.

This was the closest I have come to actually reliving the sweet first love high school feelings I had as a teenager. The little things like getting followed on social media by a crush and swooning...

He was respectful and kind and patient. There was consent. It was also refreshing to make the angst externally created instead of internally. By that I mean, it wasn't a story about characters fighting their own feelings, running or hiding from love etc... the angst was more outside of them, due to friends and social groups etc. .. I rooted for them. They were both endearing, likeable, decent humans.

I liked that the author let them be high school kids. Not underage, sophisticated and powerful adults, which is generally how this trope goes. (Not to say I haven't loved those stories too lol)

    Beautifully done. Very refreshing.

I hate to admit it but it took about two days to take the time to read this interesting but rather sweet & kinda sexy high school romance between a popular senior football player and a fiesty but down to earth girl who doesn’t run in the popular crowd. After reading a few disappointing random paperbacks that I bought from Amazon, surprisingly Falling For Her was a pretty good read that I enjoyed. It had a well balanced story with the usual push/pull as well as the angst and triumphs & passion between Jake and Hannah. I admire how Hannah never lost sight of who is and who was pretty much civil despite of how Jake & his friends treated her in the beginning. I have to say at first I thought Jake was a jerk but somehow he proven himself to be a misunderstood & sweet guy who had a lot of going on with winning football games and getting noticed by scouts to play in the NFL after he graduates from high school. And yeah the young guy on the book cover didn’t hurt either!! He’s cute.☺️

Yes, a great read. I enjoyed how Jake worked Hannah to be better and helps her get out of her shell. I love how he stood up for the girl he loved.

Ok here we go. While this book had seemed good, it was just so long! I mean who doesn't love opposites attract/nerd falls for the popular quarterback? Goodness though, it seemed to take forever & leaves you with unanswered questions. Why wasn't his therapy session put in, at least the first one? Why were his parents pov in? What was up with her mom? I mean i get she works at night & stuff but if she didn't have a big role in this why put her in in the first place? What about Marty? Diego? I could go on & on, much like this book, but I won't. 3 stars is maybe a bit too generous but I'm finally really happy I finished it, so that may have some effect on it. Wouldn't really recommend unless you're about the same age (17-18) maybe a little younger. Not gonna continue the series.

When I started reading this, I didn't realize it was YA. I thought it would be NA like One Week Girlfriend. That was kind of a bummer because I am too old for YA. I have an adult son so reading about high school kids fooling around is awkward. But I had already started the book so I kept reading thinking it would be nice to catch up with Drew and Fable. They have become boring old parents now. LOL. That's OK because Jake is a little Drew. There were a few awkward moments for me but the story was good and I did enjoy it. However, there were a few things I didn't like.

    ***Start of Very Minor Spoilers***

I didn't like Hannah's mother. She wasn't there for her daughter much of the time and left her alone at night when she worked but she was fine eating the dinner her daughter cooked and putting her foot down and telling Hannah she couldn't work. Then when she was too tired to meet Hannah's boyfriend and his family when it would take her five minutes, that was it for me.

I thought it was very high handed of Drew and Fable to make a therapist appointment without consulting their very nearly adult son. He's 17. If he left home it would be hard to make him come back. In less than a year he could join the Army. I think he deserves some respect and a little control over his own well being. If that's the normal parenting style then it may be part of the reason he's so angry all the time. No one likes to be controlled. And Jake was diagnosed with ADD as a child and was hyper. That's actually ADHD. The H is for hyperactivity. My son and I both have ADHD.

I didn't like the ending! All that buildup and nothing is cleared up. That's half a story. I dislike duets and series more than I dislike YA. I'm not reading any more of this series.

    ***End of Very Minor Spoilers***

Overall the book was well written and I didn't see any glaring errors or plot holes. It flowed well and had good characters. The things I didn't like in no way made the book terrible; my dislikes were simply my preferences and opinions. If you like YA romance then you are sure to like Jake and Hannah and all their friends, family, and even their enemies so give this book a read. I give this book an easy four stars.

I absolutely loved everything about this book. Jake and Hannah made such a cute couple. Their romance made me smile and Jake melted my heart with how much he had changed from the beginning of the book to the end. I also love being back with the Callahans again. I'm so glad Monica decided to give us more from Drew, Fable and their family. This series just makes me so happy. I can't wait to read Ava's book when it's released.
