Fang’d (Evergreen Council Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 416 ratings

Who is the antsy, beautiful guy in my passenger seat? Or rather, what is he?

Wrongly accused of murder and running for his life, Charley took a chance on the hot stranger with a fast car. He didn’t expect the gorgeous Luc to have any insights into Charley’s increasingly strange symptoms. He certainly didn’t expect to learn the fantastical stories he’d heard as a child were true. And he
definitely didn’t expect to feel so strongly for someone he only just met.

Luc’s impulsive offer has landed him in charge of a sexy, enticing, not entirely human someone. Charley might have vampire blood. Surely that should make him less attractive and not more? But the mysterious Charley is irresistible, addictive even. Luc is determined to protect him from anyone and anything…mortal or otherwise.

Fang’d is the sexy first book in the Evergreen Council series, featuring a bratty half-vampire on the run, his stubborn wolf-shifter protector, and a fascinating world of supernatural beings hiding in the shadows. HEA. Standalone.

Charley is on the run from the biker gang he works for because they think he killed one of their members. The young man may be a bit odd, but he's no killer. When Charley runs across a country lane trying to escape his pursuers, he's nearly run over by Luc's SUV. The slightly older Luc is instantly attracted to Charley and sympathetic to his problem, so he offers to help out. The two end up on a road trip taking them to unexpected places, both metaphorically and physically.

“Fang’d” definitely hooks you in from the very start with the dramatic meeting between the two main characters and the urgency of being on the run. It keeps you reading once the characters begin learning about each other. In Charley's case, he's also learning some things about himself that radically changes his worldview.

It's impossible not to like Charley. The snarky young man is irrepressible, which is a nice way of saying what many who meet him observe: he has no filter. A large part of the plot is Charley finding out about himself, who, or perhaps what, he is. However, I wouldn't call this a coming-of-age story. This is, first and foremost, a love story with a good dramatic driver.

Although only a few years older than Charley, Luc is still the more stable influence. His family life may be far from ideal, but at least he knows ‘what’ he is. Like Charley, Luc is a likable person, even if he's far from perfect.

Our two heroes meet some very interesting people over the course of their adventure. Some seem destined to become part of the new found-family the pair start to build around them. They're all fascinating characters in their own right. While the story ends in a very satisfactory way, there are definitely a few questions that might provide the basis for a sequel at some point, which will be a good excuse to bring back Charley, Luc and their family for another adventure.

This book was written by a new to me author, but since I love PNR books I thought I’d give it a try. Definitely wasn’t disappointed. Charley is on the run from a biker gang accused of a murder he didn’t commit. After almost hitting him with his SUV, Luc offers him a ride. They are both instantly attracted to the other but Luc, being unsure of Charley’s age, is reluctant to act on the attraction. Plus he senses something “other” about him, and he would know as he’s a wolf shifter himself. The sparks between them won’t be denied though and when they come together the first time it’s fire 🔥. The chase leads them to an estate hours away where Charley discovers his biological dad is really a centuries old vampire. They all assume the other half of Charley is human, but find they are very wrong when he is protecting his mate. The original false accusation is taken care with the help of some select friends and sexy video splicing. But, just when they thought they were out of the woods another problem arises and Charley’s loved ones have to scramble before it’s too late. Great world-building, loved the secondary characters and am definitely looking to read more of this series and see Charley find the answers to his other half. As for Luc and Charley…more please 🔥🔥🔥.

I was worried because I don’t DO such long books anymore but both the characters and the plot twists kept me engaged until the end. Even the head “bad guy” was a distinct person. I don’t want to give spoilers so just know that this book is very well written with engagingly distinct characters throughout.

Wow! This is the first book I've read by this author and I'm completely hooked. The world building is detailed and totally on par for the story and the characters are multifaceted and complex. Lucien is a wolf shifter who meets Charley, who is not entirely as he appears. Charley is on the run from a notorious motorcycle club, after being framed for a murder he didn't commit. As he and Luc try to stay one step ahead of the bikers, they also work to unravel the mystery of Charley's unique parentage. I don't want to give away any of the secrets because they really are best discovered in context to the story, but I will say that I was both pleasantly surprised and pleased. I read a lot of paranormal books and this one really stands out with its unique storyline and intriguing characters. The story takes place in Great Britain primarily, and is chock full of colorful British colloquialisms and slang. From the very start I was completely immersed in this world and absolutely entranced with the various characters. There's a fair amount of heat 🔥🔥 but it doesn't overshadow what is a really good story! Read this in KU but I'll be buying a copy so that I can re-read it and I fully give this book my hardiest recommendation! 5/5* Just superb!

Not a bad start to a new series, but I had a few issues that made reading this book (which is long) a lot longer than it should have been. The contrast between the motorcycle club issues and the whole vampire hybrid issues was pretty jarring for me and seemed like a strange combination and trivial after ALL the revelations in the middle of the book. Also, it annoyed me how Luc (and maybe even Charley, I don’t remember) would point out how hot Baxter was or how he would make an attempt with her if the situation was different. Literally to Charley. Felt like that was skeezy. While we are on the topic of Luc, definitely felt like he was a hypocrite since he was all up in arms when the other half of Charley’s hybrid was revealed and distanced himself and yet when Charley’s dad was being a dolt to Luc simply for being a wolf shifter Charley stood up for him no questions asked. Charley definitely should have made him beg more for sure.

I flippin loved this! It's one of my favourite PNRs of recent years and that's a high bar!

The premise and world-building were brilliant. Luc and Charley were endearing, very well written main characters. The plot and adventure kept up a good pace. The spice was spot on. And the cast of secondary characters was just perfect.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great MM supernatural introduction
Reviewed in Canada on February 4, 2024
The world building and the characters are the two best things about this book for me. Charley and Luc are both great characters and their story of a person not knowing what they are and going down the proverbial rabbit hole is written really nicely by Vin George. Extra points for some great side characters too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Immersive and realistic
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on April 4, 2023
An immersive and thoroughly entertaining m/m paranormal romance involving vampires, wolf shifters and even fae. The story starts when shifter Luc almost runs over Charley, a young man running away from some bad people, and helps him to escape. Fired by mutual attraction the two go on the run together, finally taking refuge at master vampire Dalziel’s estate in Scotland. Here they make several discoveries about Charley’s background, and shifters and vampires have to put aside their natural antipathy to work together when Charley is kidnapped. The characters are engaging and thoroughly realistic given the whole paranormal thing whilst the descriptions, insights and revelations kept me turning the pages for more. The book really came to life for me once Luc and Charley had arrived at Dalziel’s castle; some of the sex before that was a little graphic for my own personal taste but I still loved the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars UK supernatural mm romance with excellent plot
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 13, 2024
Wonderful take on the shifter/vamp trope that really honours the standard lore while taking it in a new direction. Don't want to drop any spoilers, but Charley is something new and fresh, and I love the way Luc's human and wolf sides are depicted.

There is clearly a lot of scope for more supernatural shenanigans in this world. I like how it's still grounded in the real world, with references to pop culture that give a sense of how this reality coexists with our own.

It starts with instalust, but them falling for each other so fast feels natural given their circumstances.

Can't wait to read more from thus author!
