Lodestone, Book 1, The Witch-Hunt Series.
There’s a cauldron of trouble brewing in Valloaria …
Sabrina and Lauren’s tales entwine – linked by blood and magic. Sabrina, a newly fledged healer, is thrust out of her sheltered life at Mistress Florisah’s healing school after the destruction of the witch-ancestor portraits. An anti-witchcraft militia is poised on Karthalon’s borders threatening full scale genocide, unless Sabrina, the last of Lauren’s bloodline, can destroy the Lodestone, and restore magic to Valloaria, but the Lodestone is buried deep within the heart of the Order’s headquarters. Sabrina struggles to accept this suicide mission, and is distracted by her inappropriate affection for Micah, a prospect monk. Lauren’s ghost haunts Sabrina’s dreams as her diary reveals the tragic events behind Lauren’s actions. With invasion imminent, Sabrina embarks on her quest armed only with a sliver of the Lodestone, and Lauren’s diary but how can a lone girl prevail against an army?

About the author

As a child I had a ferocious imagination and immersed myself in creating stories and poems. One birthday, I begged for a chemistry set, sensing the promise of adventure from the glittering vials of copper sulphate and salt. At that time, I didn't know I was following in the footsteps of my grandfather who had studied science in Edinburgh in 1899. A further trace back into my Scottish ancestry uncovered an ancestor known as 'the wizard'. So I could dabble with potions, too, I gained a NZ Certificate in Science (Chemistry) and worked in a variety of laboratories (salt, meat, dairy and wine) in NZ and Australia. The wine tasted the best!
During my 5 years in Adelaide, Australia, I completed several writing courses at the WEA. When my partner, son (5 months), dog, and I moved back to NZ we lived in a house truck for 3 years while our off-the-grid house was planned and built. During this period I wrote on a solar powered laptop and completed many correspondence courses from the AWA.
I write adult fantasy, children's novels and I'm currently branching into romance.
In 2012 my children's MS, Hieroglyph was selected for the NZSA MS Assessment Programme and was further selected for one of five mentorships. Hieroglyph has won the Gold Medal in the UK Wishing Shelf Books Awards 2015, and a Silver Medal in the Readers' Favorite Book Awards 2016.
Please visit www.hieroglyph.ws for details about TC's adventures.
When I'm not glued to my laptop writing or engrossed in a book, I love walking my dog on the wild West Coast beaches and trolling for sea glass, riding my bike or going for bush walks. I always wished I could fly so maybe that's why I love roller coasters. I'm a connoisseur of coffee and chocolate and I counter my addictions with Boxfit and Spin classes.
I believe life is an adventure and we should all live a life less ordinary.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 24, 2015To be honest it took me awhile to read the first book in this set, I couldn't believe that people could be so evil. How anyone could treat other people the way these priests treated people they were supposed to teach and advise. For anyone who wants a set of novels that are full of action, Romance, Intrigue and really bad people this is the set for you. This author has a wild imagination and really puts it to wonderful use with this set. The stories grabbed me and didn't let go until the end of each story.
My favorite book is the second book, The Lodestone. I feel in love with each character in the story for many different reasons. This novel like the first has loads of Intrigue, Romance, Witchcraft, Magic, and tons of action. You will laugh, Cry and get very angry at the injustice of a world very different from the world that we live in. If your looking for a wonderful set for over the Holliday season look for this set. You will not be sorry.
I was lucky that the author Wendy Scott chose me to review her box set and I am sure you will love it as much as I did. Happy Hollidays and Happy Reading.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 14, 2015Excellent reading. I received a copy of this book in exchange for a review, but I was so enthralled with the work that I ordered book 2 of the Windflowers Trilogy before I had even finished the other 2 stories in the Fantasy Firsts set. My only disappointment is that the stories are not stand alones. Very good, keep you up at night reads.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 10, 2015I received this book free in exchange for my honest review. Three books that each lay the ground work for some good reading. Each takes awhile to get going but the story lines were great. Don't expect the ending in any they are just the beginning books for each series. Looking forward to a bit more excitement in the following books.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 7, 2016Excellently written and leaving the reader wanting more. A true fantasy that covers the grim horrors man is capable of bestowing on man. Wow!! I really enjoyed this! Well worth reading.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 4, 2016From the outset the reader is thrust into a world of pain and brutality and the writer excelled in casting the hero into the mind of this reader.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 28, 2015"Fantasy Firsts" is a diverse trilogy that takes us on different adventures... In the first "Ferrasium", Kalli and other girls with "powers" or potential for powers are imprisoned to constantly fight to the death as "feminators" as a way to "eliminate their kind". Kalli tries to find a way to not only save her younger sister from a similar fate but also to fulfill an even greater destiny. This story takes place in a world similar to ancient Egypt...
"Lodestone" takes place in a world trying to destroy all magic. Sabrina is a young healer trying not only to stay alive but also fight against this unfair regime - and learning more about her past. The setting feels like Scotland about a century after the Plague...
Finally, "Tiger House" finds us in a world like ancient China where people from other worlds are kidnapped to participate in the Emperor's Games... until there is only one!. Jairus is the least likely warrior contestant from a peaceful world and finds himself a pawn in Tekagi's (the late Emperor's daughter) plotting to try and keep her position...
This collection gives us three very different worlds, but all three have young people thrust into situations beyond their control. The action is fast-paced, and we are hurtled into all kinds of dangerous situations with Kalli, Sabrina, and Jairus. The characters are well-developed and faceted; we watch them gain maturity with each challenge they successfully face - much to their own surprise! They are likable and quite human... they make friends... they are faced with hard choices. The writing whisks you away - and they are hard stories to put down! In "Tiger House" Tekagi is a desperate, conniving young woman you love to hate! Even she has areas where she draws your sympathy... and then... you would like to see her get what she deserves!
I enjoyed all three books in this boxed set, and I am anxiously awaiting the sequels to ALL their stories! I was given a free copy of this set in exchange for an honest review. This is an incredibly enjoyable taste of three different sagas, and I can't wait to find out more. If you like action, intrigue, and somemagic thrown in, you will be captivated by these stories, too!

3.0 out of 5 stars I had fun reading them
Books were total firsts in a series books. I had fun reading them, but it didn't make me want to go on and read the next in the series, as I usually do when reading a first. Guess it was just the stories themselves.
