Fate Actually: A Paranormal Women's Fiction Novel (Moonstone Cove Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.7 out of 5 stars 4,129 ratings

It’s paranormal women’s fiction for lovers of magic, mayhem, and a solid afternoon nap (when they can squeeze one in.)

Toni Dusi grew up knowing everyone’s business and everyone knowing hers, because in Moonstone Cove, you can’t pass a restaurant, farm, or winery that doesn’t have at least one Dusi involved.

Despite that, Toni has managed to carve out a private niche for herself. She has a car shop she loves, a country cottage all to herself, and has carefully avoided any long-term romantic commitments. Then fate handed Toni a shot of supernatural empathy that threw all that out the window of her prized vintage Ford.

Now she’s feeling the mood swings of everyone from her parts guy to her reluctant crush to her second cousin going through a messy divorce. She’s losing her temper; she’s crying a river; and she’s definitely giving in to temptation. For a woman who prides herself on always being prepared, Toni has no idea how to handle a supernatural storm of emotion. Which is not to say empathy doesn’t have its advantages.

When the body of a long-time family rival turns up on a back acre of her cousin’s winery, Toni realizes that her inconvenient feelings magic has turned her into one heck of a lie detector. Along with her new friends, Katherine and Megan, she might be the only one who can clear her cousin’s name.

When fate throws a final curveball in Toni’s direction, will she drop everything with disastrous consequences? Or can a forty-one-year-old empath learn enough new tricks to keep the life she’s built without sacrificing her happiness?

Fate Actually is a paranormal women’s fiction novel and the second book in the Moonstone Cove series by USA Today bestselling author Elizabeth Hunter.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Love a good mystery, especially with strong women who can also be soft when they need to. Add in a winery and some psychic powers and it's an entertaining read!!

This book was the perfect cozy little mystery with
a dash of romance and plenty of twists to keep things interesting.

This book is fantastic. This is a Must Read.
--Holly, Goodreads reviewer

I loved everything about it: the friendship and support between the three women, the mystery angle... Toni's big and close-knit family and of course the sweet romance between stand-offish Toni and laid-back but persistent Henry.
--Monadh, Goodreads reviewer

These gals are
smart, courageous, and fiercely loving and loyal to family and friends. I'm really glad more and more PNR stories are coming out that feature a slightly more mature population.
--Kate, Goodreads reviewer

Great characters and relationships that give you all the warm fuzzies, with twists and development that are wonderful to read. All peppered with a fun sense of humour....
--Sassafrack, Goodreads reviewer

Toni and Henry's story is great.
It's like a warm hug, or a best friend, or best friend's warm hug. But it also has the mystery, the who-done-it that makes this series one of my favorites!
--MJ, Goodreads reviewer

I am charmed by this book, by the series, and by Moonstone Cove. Grabby hands for the next one in the series.

I am so glad that Elizabeth Hunter did not stop writing Paranormal Women's Fiction when she finished the Glimmer Lake Series. Glimmer Lake was fun and I hated to say goodbye when I reached the end of the last book. So when the Moonstone Cove Series started I was thrilled. "Runaway Fate" tied in perfectly with Glimmer Lake, introducing three more pyshic women, strangers at first but bound together by shared trauma, and newly discovered abilities. Fate Actually brings us closer to Toni Dusi a working mechanic, running a family owned garage. Ms. Hunter always creates such relatable characters and Toni is no exception. Toni is the woman I always wanted to be. She is no naive twenty something. She is a mature, no nonsense woman who has worked hard to create her business, juggled with work life balance and coped with being unmarried in a large Italian family where woman marry have babies and still find time to run the family business. Toni is the picture of the sarcastic, loud, emotional Italian, who finds herself struggling with being an empath. It's hilarious as you would expect her to have a psychic ability more in line with working with her hands or super strength. Instead her ability has to do with messy emotions she would rather ignore and interferes with her no nonsense practical, independent lifestyle. Once again there is a suspenceful murder mystery to be solved while trying to keep their psychic talents under wraps. There is romance with a slightly younger sex on a stick man, who balances her rolling emotions with calm loving personality. And finally, there is the beauty of Moonstove Cove on the Central Coast that draws you into this world as naturally as a Hawaiian beach vacation.I caught myself wanting to book a flight home to California just so I could find Moonstone Cove. Yes as a native Californian I found it easy to believe that Moonstone could really exist! I love this book! It really was a pleasant escape from worries about the recent rash of family and friends who have turned about positive with this horrible virus just when we were beginning to hope it was going to end. Thank you, Elizabeth Hunter for this welcome end to 2020. Can't wait for Book 3. Please keep writing because I assure you I will keep reading whatever you write!

Hot dang..... she has done it again, and why does that not surprise me. Elizabeth Hunter has given us another mystery in the PWF genre with the amazing ladies in Moonstone Cove. On top of a writing a mystery, she has also given us a love story, which really is an epiphany for Toni.

This is Toni's story, and involves a dream of a man. Don't we all want a Henry? It also starts with a finger and a tractor at her cousin Nico's winery, which is also where the mystery starts. From that point on, you experience the ins and outs of Toni coming to terms with her changing life, while solving a mystery with her friends, and trying to help Nico's and Henry.

This is a fast past, page turner of a book, that I will reread again. It glides along and bam! you're done before you know it. Its one of those books where you don't want it to end when it did, because you want to see what happens with Toni and Henry when the time comes. I loved how Toni and Henry's interactions were written, but then again, I've always liked how Elizabeth Hunter writes and describes things in her books, so that's no surprise.

Overall, read this book, especially if you've read her other books. As with all her other books, there truly are some amazing noteworthy lines, and some of which are just downright hilarious. I wonder how she comes up with them, and then slap my forehead.... its Elizabeth Hunter, what do you expect.

This is the second book in Elizabeth Hunter’s Moonstone trilogy, and whereas the first one could properly be described as a campus mystery with a paranormal twist. Fate, Actually has more of a vibe of a country house mystery, as the story is centered around the Dusi’s family home and vineyard and a adjecent rivalling wine business. The Dusi vineyard is an old family business that’s slowly coming into its own, while the other vineyard was bought on the cheap by a LA financier. Antonia Dusi has nothing to do with that side of the business, as she has taken over the family garage from her father. But since she is not really a people person, she made an old cottage on her family’s land her home and is in the process of fixing it up, so that she has her peace and quiet. But that peace and quiet is being disturbed by her cousin’s gorgeous new winemaker Henry, who lends a neighborly hand whenever she needs it and seems very interested in Toni despite her advanced age (41) and her abrasive tongue. And things get even more complicated when a body is found on Dusi land…

Soon Toni and her two friends Katherine and Megan are detecting again, especially as the police’s eyes are turned toward the Dusi business, because the body was found on Dusi land. Meanwhile Toni continues to grapple with her new-found psychic powers, since fate saw fit to saddle her with paranormal empathy, so she now gets the whole dose of feelings of whoever she touches, which can be helpful, but also has it’s drawbacks…

Another thoroughly enjoyable cozy mystery by Elizabeth Hunter. I loved everything about it: the friendship and support between the three women, the mystery angle, where the women investigate amidst country club luncheons, the gorgeous California vineyard setting, Toni’s big and close-knit family and of course the sweet romance between stand-offish Toni and laid-back but persistent Henry.

We are back in Moonstone Cove with Toni, Megan and Katherine
A grwat story with wonderful characters...speaking of characters, Toni Dusi's time has come for her story and what a story it was!
In the first book of the series Runaway Fate Toni meets Megan and Katherine at a gym when a kid is going to shoot the place up...but Katherine stops the guy before anything happens and Toni jumps on him to hold him down and well Megan gets the gun away from him. That is how the three women become friends...
Katherine is a seer, Megan has the power of telekinesis, and Toni is an empath
Fate Actually takes along in the life of Toni and she has a secret...one that is wonderful but scary to a 41 year old woman...but that doesn't stop Toni...she is a power house bad asks woman
Paranormal romance meets cozy mystery and there is a dead body...
A roller coaster of action and some suspense a story you don't want to miss
I suggest that you read the first book in the series before you read this one. It will make more sense if you do...
    Highly recommend

As always with Ms Hunters work I thoroughly enjoyed this latest instalment & Toni's story, she has always been such a great character& I adore her family & this book gave us hints of a possible future couple, I really hope I am right!
Looking forward to the next one so very much. This series along with the ladies from Glimmer lake is so upbeat, it makes you wonder why all heroines are young & good looking, fit & able, with their whole life in front of them when these books are just as good or even better, all for the maturity of the main characters and the fact that they have lived about half of their lives already.
Great read, strong story, wonderful characters, cannot recommend it highly enough, but dear reader start at the first book to get the whole picture, the background needs to be read first to fully appreciate this book, enjoy! 😉

Thoroughly enjoyed this book, which is kind of the 5th in the series, because it follows on from the Glimmer Lake series.
All the women in both series are likeable, fun, and middle-aged. I feel a lot of readers would connect to them and enjoy their relationships and individual stories.
The Afterword in this book is sincere and heartfelt.
Looking forward to the next book!

I wish I could give this more stars.. 5 doesn't seem enough! Elizabeth is by far one of the best Authors. This book was so enjoyable and definitely very hard to put down. Toni is a lovable character and she would definitely hate us saying that! But she is, I love her work ethic, her drive, her devotion to those she loves, her independence, but realisation that it's ok to also need people. She is a great character. Henry is a adorable too. They are a fab match. This story was a real 'who done it' and kept me guessing right til the end. So it keeps you hooked on the book, turning page after page.. Who needs sleep hey!?
I'm looking forward to reading Megan's story. I think we can all work out her love interest maybe too??
Also absolutely loved Elizabeth's afterword, such lovely heart felt words. Thank you and wishing her the same sentiments. 💜

The whole Italian family and all the delights of navigating a big family were just so much fun. Can’t wait for the next installment. Thanks Elizabeth.
