A Fete Worse Than Death: A humorous mystery (Pippa Parker Mysteries Book 3) Kindle Edition
Organising a fete ought to be a piece of cake…
Pippa Parker is desperate to take charge of the Much Gadding summer fete at Higginbotham Hall. When she gets the nod, she’s delighted. However, when things start going wrong, a missing celebrity is just the tip of the iceberg.
Two seemingly unrelated incidents later, the fete is front-page news – for all the wrong reasons. And the only connection Pippa can find is that she’ll get the blame.
Pippa needs to discover the truth to clear her name and have any chance of working in PR again. But has she made too many enemies this time?
A Fete Worse Than Death is the third book in the Pippa Parker humorous mystery series, set in and around the English village of Much Gadding.

Liz Hedgecock grew up in London, England, did an English degree, and then took forever to start writing. After several years working in the National Health Service, some short stories crept into the world. A few even won prizes. Then the stories started to grow longer...
Now Liz travels between the nineteenth and twenty-first centuries, murdering people. To be fair, she does usually clean up after herself.
Liz’s reimaginings of Sherlock Holmes, her Pippa Parker cozy mystery series, and the Caster & Fleet Victorian mystery series (with Paula Harmon) are available in ebook and paperback.
Liz lives in Cheshire with her husband and two sons, and when she’s not writing or child-wrangling you can usually find her reading, messing about on Twitter, or cooing over stuff in museums and art galleries. That's her story, anyway, and she's sticking to it.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 27, 2024This kindle e-book novel is from my Kindle Unlimited account book 3 of 6
Pippa Parker becomes the head of the Fete in the village. Things are going well until they turn the other direction. It all comes out in the end leading to a happy ending.
I would recommend this series and author to readers of family and friends relationships mystery novels. 2024
- Reviewed in the United States on May 15, 2018I started with Ms. Hedgecock's books having Sherlockian links, then by accident got the first in the Pippa Parker series. I must say, I have a hard time identifying with a detective who has young kids but these stories are well-crafted and I find myself looking forward to the next one. This one is notable in that Pippa's relation with the local police is improving, her interpersonal relationships are growing, and she's got a lovely family. All areas where Mr. Holmes was lacking. Recommended to any fan of the mystery novel who might be looking for something a bit different.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 26, 2018I have thoroughly enjoyed the Pippa Parker series and A Fete Worse than Death was no exception. The further we get into the series, the more we learn about the characters and the more characters are added. They are feeling like part of the family. I am looking forward to more adventures with Pippa.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 11, 2018Author Liz Hedgecock has once again delivers a fun, laugh out loud, grabs you from the first paragraph mystery read. Yes, Pippa Parker is back (I so enjoy this character and all the quirky people that populate the village of Much Galding. It seems no matter how hard Pi[pa tries and she does try, chaos, mystery and ultimately murder find her. This time she has volunteered to run the village summer fete, promising to make it bigger, better, profitable and not the usual snore of past years. And, of course, before long things are not going as planned, bodies are dropping and the police, well, I don’t want to spoil the fun. Fast paced, believable plot, strong character’s and plenty of twists and turns. I think of the three Pippa Parker mysteries, this one is my favorite. The Pippa Parker stories can be read independently or begin at the beginning.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 23, 2018I had never read a Liz Hedgecock authored book till this one, now I must go back and read book 1 and 2 in the series. Fast paced, smartly written, funny read. Thoughly entertaining !!!
With the current craz of all things "English" and on the heels of the royal wedding, this is perfect timing for a walk in the English countryside. Follow Pippa through her trials and tribulations, with always unexpected consequences. If you've ever been a fan of Angela Lansbury type books, then this author will not disappoint
- Reviewed in the United States on October 2, 2018After reading dozens of cozy mystery series, I must say that Liz Hedgecock's Pippa Parker series is in a class of its own. The charming English village setting, a cast of delightful characters, Pippa's penchant for routing out miscreants, and the author's engaging writing style create a winning combination that keeps me wanting more.

5.0 out of 5 stars In the hands of Fete...
A Fete worse than Death is another great entry in the Pippa Parker series. If you enjoyed the previous two books I'm certain you'll love this one too, it keeps the fun characters you know and love while layering in a few new faces to keep things fresh. These are fast becoming my favorite cozy mysteries!
Pippa is as lovable as ever, doing her best to survive village life, when she gets roped into helping with the village fete. Having been to a few of these types of events over the years I can tell you that the author has nailed the quaint charm and local politics involved. Soon things are out of control, and the fun begins.
I don't want to say too much about the core mystery as I don't want to spoil anything, but needless to say it kept me guessing throughout the book and I enjoyed the conclusion.
Overall it was a fun, light read. I'm already looking forward to the next one!

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy read
Well written but too short. This series of books are the same. I thoroughly enjoy them but get through them very quickly..

5.0 out of 5 stars another great book
Keeps you thinking from start to finish. Although, like all great murder mysteries I am still not sure how she got to the killer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun cosy village fete mystery
Good fun! Pippa decides to brush up her career skills again but finds herself in trouble when the fete goes wrong. Good to find out more about Norm the ex copper turned librarian - I'd like to see even more of him. Didn't guess who dunnit! Looking forward to Pippa's next outing.
