Fantastic read with so much going on you may have trouble keeping up. I loved it! Intense characters will enter your life and you will want them to succeed. People from another planet took over their lives many years ago, but it has gotten worse. Now they must try to survive. What will be best, to stay and hide in the tunnels, or to run?
I was given a Arc of this book in exchange for a honest review. Glad I got a chance to find this Author.

In the aftermath of Dead and Buryd, one of Georgianna’s greatest fears has come to pass – she’s been buryd for her involvement in the escape of two Adveni slaves. Incarcerated in the Lindbury compound, she’s tormented with the possibility that she could have been set up, betrayed by her friends and left to rot, when weeks and months pass without word from outside.

It’s a dog-eat-dog world inside Lindbury, and Gianna quickly learns that the prison hierarchy is as brutal and oppressive as that of the Adveni over the Veniche. Forced to do whatever it takes to stay alive and unharmed, Gianna’s shame, regret, and despair is palpable as she forges uneasy alliances with Lindbury’s most undesirable inmates for her own protection.

Sold as a Drysta – a slave – Gianna unwillingly swaps one prison for another, becoming an Adveni’s possession to be toyed with however her owner sees fit. Though her situation seems bleak at first, Gianna’s departure from Lindbury sees the beginnings of a tentative (if a little volatile) friendship, and puts her back in the awkward position of being in contact with both the Adveni and the Veniche – something the Belsa rebels are quick to take advantage of.

Suspicions of a double agent in the Belsa camp run rampant with potentially devastating consequences, but they’re not the only ones who ought to be checking through their ranks with a fine toothed comb…

One character that I really wanted to see more of in Fight or Flight was Edtroka, because he’s somewhat of an enigma, and his demeanour (as cold as it may be) hints that there might be more to him than the indifferent prison guard persona he projects. For now, let’s just say I wasn’t disappointed.

In the second installment of the Out of Orbit series, the stakes are raised even higher, trust becomes a commodity and loyalties are tested up to, and beyond their limits. Once again, Cooke has captured the human – or alien in this case – spirit perfectly, riding a fine line between cowardice and confidence in order to do what is right. There were times when I wanted to shake Gianna and tell her to pull her bloody socks up, and others where I just wanted to give her a hug and tell her it was okay to be afraid as I experienced her trials right beside her.

My only complaint is that book three won’t be out until next year!

I'm more used to the terminology, at k east there isn't many new meanings to decipher. Our spunky heroine, George, has the love of many. There's a lot of tension between the three men, and you wonder what's going to happen next! All of them have held secrets, lied, and tried to manipulate George for her own good and her safety. I can't wait to see what happens next!!

This was not a bad second installment to the series. I still the story and the characters. The tension in the story does get palpable, but I wish it could have been a bit more. I feel like this book might have just been or is a lead up to the final book. It gets slow in some areas, but not by to much. I did not breeze through it as I did the first book, but I was still satisfied. And that is mainly because I knew there was another book coming after it.

My oh my, how easily one's life can change. For Georgianna, her own life has taken a harsh turn. I admire her character tremendously and I know she will rise above these tragic times. I am loving where the story is headed and I am so excited to read the next book. Excellent storytelling!

I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

First off, I loved this book. It got right into some action and I was pulled along immediately. The first book in the series, Dead and Buryd, sets the tone more and is slower in places because of it, but the author gives us some of that all important action in the last portion of that book. There was a character in Dead and Buryd that I wanted to see more of and that was Edtroka, the Adveni guard. When I picked up Fight or Flight I was not disappointed. Edtroka is one of those rare characters that is so well written, you're turning the page quicker to find the scenes with him in it. For me, his interaction with Georgianna is what held my interest. But I wanted more! I guess I'll have to wait for the next book to read on.

What I least liked were the Belsa/Veniche scenes. There was nothing wrong with them except that there were so many characters with face time, I found it hard to keep track of who everybody was. The scenes with the Adveni were much more personal and tightly written.

Overall, this is turning into a really interesting series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Strong sequel, excellent cliffhanger work
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on August 2, 2014
This second book in the Out Of Orbit series is a much pacier affair than the first - it reads reader expectations well by focusing in on Edtroka, probably the most intriguing character from Dead And Buryd. Successfully resolves the cliffhanger from last time without feeling cheap and pays that off into new and interesting adventures.

The quicker rush of events made me much more invested in the story, and I'm definitely onboard for book 3. There were a few moments when I struggled to remember who minor characters were and how they related to the heroine, but I don't think it harmed my enjoyment.

Firstly I need to say that I feel very lucky and privileged to have been able to read a pre-release copy of this sequel to Dead and Buryd. I have been waiting with baited breath for it to be released since I finished the first book in the Out of Orbit series and I was not disappointed. Action from the outset and straight back into Georgianna's story. I felt frustrated along with Georgianna as answers were not given straight away but when they were I certainly wasn't disappointed. My only regret in reading this book so quickly is that I now have to wait even longer for the third book in the series to be released.(less)
