First Light (Heartsville Book 2) Kindle Edition
When Oliver Hansen gets a second chance at life, he grasps it with both hands. Leaving his stressful life in New York, he plans to enjoy the simpler things. Driving to Heartsville in the Pocono Mountains to thank his heart donor’s widower is a top priority. But the brusque man with the melancholy eyes strikes a chord in Oliver. So when Aubrey mistakenly believes he’s there to apply for the bakery job…Oliver takes him up on the offer.
As Oliver busies himself with the grand reopening, he and Aubrey establish a tentative friendship, which soon shifts to blazing attraction. Oliver falls hard for him, yet he can’t help but wonder if Aubrey’s feelings are an attempt to maintain a connection to the wife he’s still mourning. And Aubrey is unsure if Oliver will tire of the slow pace in Heartsville and go running back to the city he loves. The two must successfully navigate the stormy waters of grief, doubt, and their very different lifestyles, or they risk losing both their hearts—again.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 26, 2018I didn't even have to read the entire blurb to know that I had to read this book. How can you not want to read about a man falling in love with the man who received his late wife's heart? I knew it would be emotional but that it would also be heartwarming and sweet.
I just loved Oliver and Aubrey. There were so many times that I had to swallow the huge lump in my throat. And that scene on the couch after Oliver tells Aubrey that he has Lisa's heart had the tears flowing. There were also times when I wanted to reach in and smack people (Chelsea and Jennifer) even though I understood where they were coming from.
I really loved the slow pace of Oliver and Aubrey's relationship. It wasn't rushed. You knew that they felt the same way towards each other and I'm glad they didn't jump into bed earlier. I loved all the kisses and soft touches. Everything built up to that moment when they could finally come together and share that moment.
I really loved watching Oliver and Aubrey come together. Their story was everything I hoped it would be.

I found First Light to be a really lovely love story of second chances and finding love after loss. It’s emotional and heartfelt, and features two very endearing characters. It's a story that will make you believe in fate.
Aubrey is still dealing with the grief over the loss of his wife two years ago when Oliver shows up at Aubrey’s farm, intent on thanking him for his wife’s gift of life. Things don’t quite go as Oliver planned, and he finds himself in deeper than expected. But as the hesitant friendship that forms between Aubrey and Oliver slowly morphs into something much more than either of them had been looking for, there’s no turning back.
***While this is book 2 in the Heartsville series it can definitely be read as a standalone, although I do recommend reading Last Call- it's a terrific mmm romance!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 27, 2021Combining Felice Stevens and Christina Lee (I have been told for the last time) was a brilliant maneuver and their first in the two-book series totally changed my feelings about menage-a-trois.
This one ventures into an exceptionally difficult subject (read the blurb carefully) with all the right guideposts:
1) exceptional MC's in Aubrey the farmer (on the cover, woof!) and Oliver the heart recipient;
2) miscommunication and angst resulting from that lack of communication;
3) sweet as pie overall plot line;
4) involvement from key characters in the first book.
I could not put this book down.
You don't need any more information from me on that score except that I am a bit miffed that there will not be another in the series. But as it stands, this one is brilliant.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 19, 2023I really enjoyed this story. I thought the premise was incredibly creative. I was absorbed as I watched Aubrey and Oliver go from their awkward meeting to Oliver’s big reveal to dealing with both their families/backgrounds and finally becoming a couple. I’ve hardly ever routed for two MC’s to become a couple as I did these two.
This is a keeper and one I’ll be rereading on occasion!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 16, 2022First Light is book two in the Heartsville series by Christina Lee and Felice Stevens. I adored the first book in this series, Last Call and am finally getting around to reading this second book and I’m so glad I finally did. It’s just wonderful.
Aubrey Hendricks is forty five years old and owns and runs the First Light farm, a produce farm which not only grows many vegetables but also has strawberry fields, apple trees and so much more. Aubrey grew up on the farm, married and loved his wife Lisa there. Lisa ran the bakery on the farm until her tragic death two years ago in an accident. Ever since, Aubrey has lived in a sort of black hole, working himself to the bone during the day in hopes of exhausting himself so he might be able to sleep at night. He had finally decided to re-open the bakery and had placed a help wanted ad for a new baker. That’s when Oliver showed up for the first time. For the job, or at least that’s what he thought.
Oliver Hansen was a successful mergers and acquisitions attorney in New York, working long hours, barely ever seeing his apartment. Until he got sick. He needed a heart transplant. When the day finally came and a heart was available, it was the start of a new life for him. Now two years later he wants to thank the widow of his donor. When he drove onto First Light, he instantly felt a peace he’d never felt before. And when the gorgeous owner, the man who lost his wife so that Oliver could live, mistakenly thought he was there to apply for the baker position for the bakery, Oliver decided it must be a sign. That he was needed here at First Light. He would tell Aubrey the truth as to why he was really there, soon.
Aubrey had never been able to get past his grief, using the farm as his only distraction. But when he was near Oliver, everything just seemed to settle. Aubrey felt stirrings of something that had been gone since the day his wife died, attraction. Oliver was intensely attracted to Aubrey but he also knew the man was in pain. So he offered his friendship, hoping that in some way he could help Aubrey to move on. He also was weighed down every day with his secret. Oliver’s days were filled with getting the bakery ready for opening day but Oliver knew that he needed to share the real reason he had come to First Light. After Aubrey found out the truth, would he even want him to stay?
This really was such a beautiful story of healing and of finding love. For Oliver, it was a new life, one he never imagined for himself, and his first real true love. For Aubrey, it was also the start of a new life, a life filled with a second love. Both men came to rely on one another, and couldn’t imagine their lives without the other. There are still plenty of hurdles that they will need to overcome, though, before they can find their happy ever after together. Christina and Felice make a wonderful writing duo and I have enjoyed both of these books so much.
“He’d come out from the depths of a long, cold journey, and Oliver was his sunlight, warming him back to life.”

5.0 out of 5 stars Glaubwürdig.

Imagine a man shows up on your doorstep two years after your wife was killed in a tragic accident. Now imagine you get to hear your wife’s heart beating in this mans chest. What might you do?
I devoured this over two days. I can’t say enough good about it other than I wish there was more!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good.
A nicely written story with an interesting premise. I enjoyed both characters, even grumpy Aubrey, who despite his circumstances, didn't dither. I like characters who are decisive.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable read
This was a fun and heart-melting romance. Aubrey lost his wife, Lisa, 2 years ago in a car accident, and her organs were donated as per her wishes. Oliver was in desperate need of a new heart, and received Lisa's. When he turns up to introduce himself to Aubrey and thank him for what he did, he finds he can't say the words and gets mistaken for responding to the Help Wanted ad that Aubrey had put up - a job for a Baker to reopen the bakery on his farm that was Lisa's passion. Oliver changed his life after his surgery, and discovered a love of baking so fits right in. Now he has to find a way to tell Aubrey why he really came to the farm, and work out what to do with the attraction he has for Aubrey too.
The story was well written, the secondary characters all well developed and likeable. I loved that we still got to see the guys from Last Call - great crossover there!
What I couldn't get my head around was Oliver himself. I couldn't associate his thoughts, behaviours and mannerisms with a 45yo lifetime New Yorker, who had been a top lawyer. He came across as naive, innocent and unconfident. Compared with Aubrey, who was meant to be the same age, I felt there was a significant age gap between them - it honestly came across like Oliver was in his mid-20s, not mid-40s.
Otherwise it was a fun and entertaining read that I really enjoyed. I hope there is more in this series, or at least set in this world so we can see more of Oliver and Aubrey, as well as the guys from Last Call.
