Fletcher: A Standalone College Romance: A Boys of HGU Novel Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 111 ratings

Just one night...

I should have known that just one night would never have been enough.
Not when Peyton Mckenna has been the only girl I've ever dreamed of.
We were friends once, best friends but to me she was always the girl I couldn't have. It didn't stop me wanting though.
But then everything changed, our worlds exploded and I pushed her away, too caught up in my grief and confusion of still wanting the girl that belonged to someone else.
For three years I avoided her as if everything that happened that night was her fault, but the truth was, the guilt of seeing her, still wanting her was tearing me apart but I was becoming weak.

Weak enough to let her back in.
Weak enough to hold her.
Weak enough to take that taste I'd always denied myself.

It was a betrayal.
But never a mistake.
And now I want more.

Our paths were too tangled, our lives forever on a collision course.
This was my destruction and we had always been destined to fail.

Fletcher is book one in the Boys of HGU series. A steamy, friends to lovers, college romance that can be read as a standalone.
If you love angst, emotion and enough steam to leave you sweating scroll up and one click now!

Love!
This is the third book I have read by V McFarlane and may be my favorite!! Fletcher who is quarterback of the HGU football team and goes to college his best friends. Peyton has been one of his best friends for years, but he has been ignoring her for the last 3 years. Throughout this book we see Fletcher and Peyton struggle to fight their feelings for one another, while getting over their past. This is a friends to lovers and forbidden romance book! It is a college sports romance full of angst and amazing chemistry! I fell in love with all of the characters especially the boys of HGU. I am sooo excited to read the next book in this series, and cannot wait to see Dexter's story unfold!

This book destroyed me throughout the entire book! It was everything I could of hoped for. I absolutely loved having the duel POV, even more so I loved that it was lead by Fletchers POV. It really helped bring all the emotions forward and kept them there. I loved the happy ending. And I will definitely be reading more of this series!

This was a sad- cute story. This was my first time reading this author. I came across this author on tik tok and was like let me give it a try --- tik tok has not failed me yet with recommendations. I will say I was hoping for more. They were sneaking around but we didn't get much context from the that. I will say I loved how the book finished. One thing that I didn't like was the setting for this book is in Colorado but it had british words in it. I do wish we had gotten more about Tyler's death in the beginning like how it happened sooner because I felt like I was missing something until they explained it later on in the book.

I absolutely love that everyone knew he was in love with her even though he didn't want to admit. My favorite part of this book was the when the guys thought she was still sleep when she was outside enjoying her drink and then Fletcher came outside and was like I always know where you are, understand.

If you enjoyed reading this book, you should read [book:Kiss of War|55566580].

This has to be a joke. This is my first time doing a beta read. So I guess I did not know what to expect. In my mind I was thinking this is my perfect opportunity to tell the author what I would like to see different or what I would change to make it more enjoyable for the reader. I guess I was wrong. This was literally the finished product. I don’t think my heart could take anything more. No way could I take any more heart dropping moments. You know that feeling when you’re reading a scene in a book that has your heart in your stomach? You just feel for the characters and you know if that was you how hurt and upset you would feel. Ok well you get that in about 20+ chapters. I personally love that feeling. It makes reading that much more enjoyable when it can add a physical feeling to you. Is that the angst everyone talks about? I have no clue but I felt like I was going to vomit about 30 times cause of what Peyton was going through. I literally felt her pain. Now I would have handled it a lot differently but thats just personality differences haha. Here’s a little background on what you can expect.

Peyton basically grew up with 4 brothers. Not biological but protective just the same. Through high school Tyler and Peyton become the it couple. They had a relationship everyone wanted. Only thing is what it looked like on the outside isn’t exactly how it was on the inside. Not only that but Peyton was having trouble keeping her mind from wondering to Fletcher, Tyler’s older brother and one of her protectors. What a mess she was in. However, that was in high school. It’s three years later and college is a whole other ball game. A lot can happen in three years. Devastation, separation, and tragedy just among a few.
Fletcher is in his senior year of college. His last year to either leave things the way they are or change them. He wants to change them so bad but that would be betrayal to the one person he doesn’t believe should deserve it. He has his best friends right next to him this year but only one thing is missing. Her. He can’t have his cake and eat it too. He can’t hold back any more. He wants her but the only thing is no one else can know. It has to be a secret. Only that secret hurts her more than he will ever know.
This story has sad, happy, funny, and edge of your seat moments. Basically everything wrapped in one. I can’t wait to see what other readers have to say about this book. It’s definitely a read that will have me rereading over and over again. Also I can’t wait for more. I swear Deckers book is going to be heart wrenching but I’m so here for it. Get ready all. Cause it’s just the beginning. Gosh I need a man like Fletcher but if he could get it together faster that would be great 😁

Fletcher Dallas was the first boy to capture her attention when she moved to town, and he was the one boy she wanted to look at her and see her as more than a friend. But sadly after pining over him for a while he pretty much made it clear he didn't feel the same connection she did. So she moved on, and began dating his brother Tyler, and let her notions of them living happily ever after go. They maintained their friendship and were often together with their little group of friends, and things were going well. That is until tragedy struck and took away Tyler away, and left Fletcher and Peyton completely beside themselves.

That one instant changed everything between them, Fletcher went radio silent and has kept his distance from her for the last three years. They both took on the blame for the accident and have punished themselves emotionally over it time and time again. Peyton can't understand what she did wrong and why Fletcher has pushed her away, she has tried to make amends, but he just won't let her in. It's as if she lost both of them that day, and she isn't so sure she will ever get them back. But then out of the blue Fletcher starts talking to her again, and she holds out hope it means something, maybe that there is a little of that friendship left. Or more?

Between the pages of Fletcher you will meet two broken souls who have lost so much, and are struggling to find a reason to be happy again. Tragedy has left their relationship strained and they have had little to no communication in the last three years. They both miss one another, but the hurt they carry keeps them apart. Watching these two try and find their way again was quite emotional and hard on the heart, but every now and then you'd see a glimmer of something that would give you hope. Their tragic story touched my heart and I cheered them on every step of the way, all the while hoping it would lead to some much needed happiness for them. Loved every minute of this one, the feels were unreal, the story line was engaging and heartfelt, and the characters completely stole my heart! Highly recommend!

I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.

‘I’d loved her since I was thirteen, maybe not romantically at first but as we grew I fell in love with her a little more every day...

    Rating: 4.75 stars

Fletcher is a new adult collage sports romance, is told from duel POVs and is the first book in the Boys of HGU series.

I discovered this novel after seeing it featured as one of the RIRI in the New Adult Book Club on Goodreads and after reading the blurb I just knew I had to get it on KU.

    V. McFarlane is a new author to me and boy did she blow me away with this one ! The characters and their story with the tension and drama and chemistry, captivated me from the very beginning and kept me engaged throughout. I also fell so hard for the supporting character and cannot wait for Decker’s story coming this June !!!

I highly recommend this read to anyone who loves an angsty sports collage romance that’s slightly forbidden.

Finally got round to reading the first boys of HGU book and I just loved it. I absolutely devoured every page and couldn’t read it quick enough!

Oh Fletcher.. what a dreamboat 🥺 he was such a sweet character who was dealing with grief and so much guilt over his feelings. It was so hard to see as he deserved happiness so much but denied himself for so long!

And our sweet Peyton, she was just an angel! She also denied herself because of feelings of guilt and it was a tough read as you just wanted the best for them both.

Their relationship was so sweet and natural and you could tell how much they belonged together, it just spoke to you on every page! Their chemistry and sexual compatibility were also second to none!

I loved this book and can’t wait to read Decker (which I’m lucky enough to have an arc of!) as him and Colt were just the best friends to Fletch and Peyton! Really recommend this! 💖

This was a great story. I really enjoyed it. Then it just ended. It needed an epilogue. It needed more to finish it off. The ending kinda ruined it for me, it was abrupt and didn't feel finished enough. It bummed me out I wanted to see a but more of the HEA at the end. That's the only reason I'm taking out a star. Otherwise a great story, I really enjoyed it.
