Floored: an accidental pregnancy sports romance (Ward Sisters Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 9,255 ratings

Have you heard the one about the impulsive American grad student and the broody Brit who argued about which kind of football was better?

It’s a good story, especially because it ends with me clutching a pregnancy test in my tiny Oxford flat.

In my defense, it was never meant to be more than a harmless flirtation. But he was just sitting there, with his accent and his muscles and his tattoos, telling me that
his football was better than the one I grew up watching my brother play. Next thing I knew, that flirtation got a whole lot hotter and even though I wasn’t sure I’d ever see him again—my mystery Brit—it was the kind of night a girl goes to her grave remembering.

You know how the story goes though … a few weeks later, the impulsive girl gets a little pukey, and sees a sports headline featuring her mystery Brit kicking the black and white ball that got us into this mess.

Trust me, I didn’t see it coming either.

Always....
I was waiting with such anticipation for Lia & Jude’s story after getting the preview at the end of “Faked” (2nd book in the Ward Sisters’ Series). Lia was known as the spunky twin growing up & considered the more ‘independent’ one. I related so much to Lia in this book because when you’re used to be the “strong, fun’ person it’s hard to really open up to people when you feel down or confused because you’re used to being that advocate for others. When Lia finds herself getting homesick thousands of miles from her family some advice from her sister leads her to the start of more than what she could have ever bargained for in Jude McAllister. Being able to see the type of man who would catch her attention i some of the main reason I anticipated this book so much. Karla did a great job of creating a male lead who was strong yet caring/sensitive. In some books finding this balance is hard because when trying to get the reader to really picture a man with those qualities can come across as hokey or slightly annoying. But that is definitely not the case with Jude McAllister. This one word toward the end of the book sums up everything I love about Karla’s writing...”ALWAYS”. The main characters will always be endearing, you’ll always get invested in where their relationship is heading, she always gives you a glimpse into the lives of your other favorites from previous books in the series....and most importantly you will always want to re-read.

He was a footballer…she was moving forward with her dream assignment…what neither of them expected was two purple lines after one hot night of steamy time. Lots of angst..and some anger..and lots of tears. This HEA comes with a tissue alert.

I was so into the story but then it got boring along the way. I don’t understand why the sudden pregnancy. It was a cute but slow compare to the other series.

It seems I have changed my mind…again. Or maybe it’s because Claire and Lia are twins but I loved this book as much as the second one. It could also be because of the whole family dynamic, these Ward girls and their brother Logan have such an amazing bond. Each of the sisters is mature for her age, and not many could deal with a parental death as well as abandonment as these do. Logan and his wife Paige can take most of the accolades, but I feel the sisters have helped each other just as much. And it’s why, when Lia is abroad in London, she can be level headed and steer her and Jude into a better place.

Unfortunately for Jude, his own upbringing wasn’t as loving or supportive. His brother Lewis is the middleman in trying to mend fences in that family but it’s not easy. Sometimes the risk of loosing something more precious helps to rectify mistakes from the past.

At first you think Jude is a carefree, fun loving football ⚽️ player, then the book progresses and he is deeper and more sensitive. He’s completely swoon worthy and a romantic, and that made me smile a lot.
I’m glad Lia has found a man who’s dependable and loyal like her brother and that he will do anything for her and the baby.

I’m not sure if I’m sad or excited to head into the last of the Ward sisters books. Isabel is literally going to kick butt in this next tale. 🥋🥊

The pacing on this book stalled about halfway through. It felt like the author was trying to emulate the classics her protagonist studied, but her plot was not complex enough to make it work. I also found it ironic that she included a line about how authors have to make their characters' choices believable. Maybe she didn't know you also have to make those choices compelling. Instead, she wrote a protagonist who followed the same strategy throughout the book, yet still got everything she wanted. The breakup felt beyond arbitrary, and instead of finding the characters and their choices sympathetic, they felt annoying and stupid. While the mmc's part felt rooted in a character flaw, the fmc's felt childish and arbitrary, and I immediately lost sympathy for her.

Starting off 2024 by finishing some series I've previously started.
Floored by Karla Sorensen was first up and I have to say I was a little scared going into it as one of my least favorite tropes is accidental pregnancy. But I've loved the Ward family and the sisters and had to have faith.
Lia Ward is in England, away from her close-knit family studying something she loves. But she misses her family immensely before she even has started her studies. Luckily, her twin sister Claire is always there by phone and gave her some advice. Mix that advice with rain, a pub, and a good looking man and what do you get? A one night stand that Lia will not forget!

I have to say that I really enjoyed this story. I loved how Lia met Jude at a pub and he was a footballer (European football, so soccer for us Americans), although she had no clue. They shared some fun banter and light arguments over what football was superior and it just made me laugh. I'm a huge American football fan, so I could relate to Lia, but Jude with his good looks and quick comebacks would've worn me down too. After their one night together, I was kind of disappointed that Jude didn't reach out earlier, but when he did it was perfect.

Now, I would think that saying this is an accidental pregnancy trope would be a spoiler, but it's listed on the title description. I for one would usually skip over these type of books, but I enjoyed it. These two took every precaution to not get pregnant so that was the one issue I really had with that. But I did like the way it brought these two together and how much they truly did care for one another, even if neither one of them was looking for it. AND the way Lia loves sports and cheering in Jude's corner was perfection. It was the one thing he was missing in his career and Lia gave it to him.

Which brings me to family dynamics. Wow! Jude came from a very unsupportive family and it really played in to who he was. I liked the way it was dealt with and how it formed who Jude became as an adult. Was it perfect? No. But it gave him room to work on himself and grow for his own family he was creating. And then there's the Wards. That family is awesome and I loved their closeness and the way the supported each other from beginning to end. Jude had no idea what he was getting into, but overall it created a good balance and gave him something to strive for.

Overall, this was a good romance story that also had some great live action soccer matches which was a definite plus. Add that in with all the family members and Lia and Jude's journey to discover who they were as a couple while they were together and apart and the story worked. The pacing was done well and I even liked the fact that there was somewhat of a breakup but it was a part of the story that allowed growth for the characters. I can't wait to read the last sister's story because this Ward family is pretty darn awesome.

This book caught be by surprise. The way Kayla wrote Jude and Lia had my heart swollen full of love and happiness.

The way she speaks about the importance of mental health, money and becoming a better self. The way Lia decided what was best for her kid and Jude and how both grow closer instead of growing apart in a realistic way.

Jude going to therapy was an incredible thing to read. For me, this did it. Not every author talks about the importance of mental health or they romanticize the pain. This is one of the first books I have read that I felt realistic in terms of relationship and growing.

I loved also that even though Jude had more money, the author handle it in a way that didn’t defined their relationship. I’m a little bit tired of reading the typical millionaire coming to the woman’s life and change it just because he has money. I want to read about strong and independent women who are financially independent (not even millionaires, just capable of supporting themselves)

This was a really really nice and beautiful story and I cannot wait to read the others!!

Just wow - Lia and Jude’s story was brilliant! I’m new to this author and read this straight after accidentally stumbling over book 2 (another great read). Lia and Jude meet, have a bit of fun after giving in to their intense chemistry and the clue to what happens next is in the title!

It’s beautifully written, the intimate scenes are detailed enough to feel the emotion but not explicit. I swear, I laughed, cried and was engrossed in their journeys together and individually.

Would definitely recommend and will be checking out book 4!

    ESP ::

Me gustó mucho. No quisiera dar más detalles pero contiene:

    1) Lia (la heroína) con una relación familiar envidiable, quien vive aventura en Reino Unido.
    2) Un galán encantador, quien nunca es un patán y es deportista (súper hot).
    3) Twist inesperado 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

    ENG ::

This series is incredibile, starting with Logan (the brother) and his story (and actually, that book is part of other series).

So far, for the Ward Sisters, my favorite one has been “Faked” but I think Lia’s book was amazing and unexpected.

I do not want to spoil the surprises that you can find in the story, but here are some basics:

    1) The inspirational dynamic among the Ward family and Lia’s adventure in UK.
    2) A hot jock guy who’s never a jerk and he’s actually sweet and lovable.
    3) Unexpected ingredient for the one night stand 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

I wasn’t sure I would like it after reading the previous books in the series…I was expecting this story to be boring or very similar. But I liked the British twist , made it unique even though still similar. Lia and Jude are very likable. A really enjoyable read!

I honestly loved this book, it’s so well written. The location is majority in the UK which is great. Lia is there to study a semester abroad for her Masters degree in English Lit. Jude is a hot professional football/soccer player. Lia and Jude’s worlds collide and it all goes from there.
I love the twists in the storyline, Jude’s family issues and the strength the both develop over the story.
    Great ending, honestly perfect.
Can’t wait to read the next book, just know I will be (not so) patiently waiting until June 2021.

Another great book by Karla Sorenson.

I’m not usually a huge fan of the accidental pregnancy trope, but I think this book was charming and well written. There were so many twists and turns and potential challenges that this book could have been filled with angst, but I’m pleased to say that it didn’t have that muscle tension inducing quality (wherein I often feel like I’m trying to push back against the flow of events) that I often associate with angst filled books. Lia and Jude had their fair share of current and past issues to work through, but their journey towards a happily ever after was very enjoyable to follow along with.

I am looking forward to reading Isabel’s story. :-)
