Inaccurate book
I’m Japanese, raising a child in the States. I’m taking my child to Japan for the first time and bought this book as part of a way to reveal the long-awaited trip as a big surprise. Lo and and behold, I see obvious inaccuracies after a quick flip-through. For example, the picture of soba (buckwheat noodles) is identified as ramen, the book says a strange blurb about how working men in Japan take naps during the day (was this book confused with the Spaniards’ siestas?) and the snake on one of the pages (see in the photo) isn’t even a common or native species in Japan. *face palm* I don’t even want to know what other fiction is in this book. I’d hoped for accuracy especially for a kid’s intro book to Japan. I definitely would not recommend it. p.s. Emperor info is also now outdated although I understand this is just a matter of timing.

I love the FlyingKids series and this is the second book I got from them. Like the previous one, this book is very informative and interesting. It gives a lot of information about Japan's geography, history, culture, traditions, etc, and it comes with many fun games for the kids. It tells about how many islands there are in Japan and what are the most popular cities there. The part that I like the most is it even teach you how to order food in Japanese. This book is full of fun and I will definitely purchase more in the future!

Though this book was not as fun for the kids as the Mission Series (Mission Rome, etc) because its not a scavenger hunt. It did have some activities to keep them entertained during bus rides. It had some useful information and some info that was helpful for adults to learn, however the info was only a page long for each city. May be better for kids younger than age 8. Most of the book was coloring or word search or other activities rather than stuff about Japan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful idea, my kids love the book...
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 21, 2017
I bought this Guide for my children to learn about Japan for our upcoming holiday. I think the book is really wonderful. There are lots of activities for them to do while learning about Japan, and all the information is presented in manageable amounts for young readers. The book comes across as fun and my children are definitely engaging with it. When I was a child I went on a road trip with my parents to a French camping site, and the campsite provided an activity pack for my to do in the car on the journey to the campsite. I remember I really loved doing the activities and it made the journey interesting rather than boring. I think the fact I still remember it and remember the holiday (from maybe 6 yrs old to now at 35 yrs) stands testament to that. I am hoping this book will be similar for my children now and serve as a way to compliment the trip and make it memorable for them as well as a learning experience.
We are all really looking forward to going and I am very happy with my purchase of the Kid's Travel Guide - Japan.

My only constructive suggestion would be can it be a bit longer (more activities - like Japanese typical things to spot for the children on journeys around the country) and have a few extra pages at the back to put pictures of our trip ....

As above perfect gift for first time young travellers with a ten hour airplane trip. My grandsons are 9 and 11 but it would work for younger kids 6 and up as well Explains currency, food, common spoken words and how to say them. As well it can be used as a journal for te trip
