For Pemberley: A Pride & Prejudice Novella
Audible Audiobook
– Unabridged
Trigger warning: Chapter One has a failed sexual assault with no description of the attack itself. However, the emotional impacts are felt throughout the story.
Can love grow from adversity?
An attempted assault leaves Miss Elizabeth Bennet seeking tender comfort from the man she had, at one time, abhorred. Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy's gentle compassion fosters a budding affection as the couple grows to acknowledge each other's weaknesses and failings while recognizing their own.
From Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, we know Mr. Darcy as a man willing to make phenomenal changes for the woman he loves. Once proud and arrogant, he transforms into the gentleman women have admired for centuries. Through Elizabeth's eyes, we come to know him and see beyond the surface to the inner man - a man willing to give all he has for the woman he admires.
As our heroine struggles with the aftermath of that life-changing event, we discover a strength of character we can admire and emulate. Not even the vile Mr. Wickham can keep Elizabeth Bennet from her happily-ever-after with the man of her dreams - Mr. Darcy.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 27, 2023This story was a brief exposure into the actions, feelings, and reactions to a social predator and his victims! What I liked most is the insights the author gave me in how to overcome and conquer the betrayals by someone you trusted. I liked the way the author framed the characters and how they expressed themselves an their emotions! I get the feeling that I am seeing and hearing her! I feel connected! I was not allowed to drown in the Vegas of the terrors but focused on the power of love! I counsel all readers of books by this author to not skin or skip over any details, she does her writings well!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 11, 2017This is such a cute read. The subject matter is serious but it is the comfort and support Elizabeth receives from our pemberley stallion that made it cute. I do wish there was a bit more edge to it. I know your all probably gasping at my words but I like that sense of danger before our H rides on the scene.
In this one the action and battle is over physically it is the emotional state that Lizzy is left in that encompasses the story. Not to make that sound as though it's nothing being attacked in a place you've visited a 1000 times would a a scary thing. To think of how a person would remember how innocent those times were and to be brought into a world where now everything brings fear is so hard to imagine. It's like a person that's had a car accident and from then on your overly cautious even if it wasn't your fault. Now let's toss in Lizzy berating herself because she thought the man was trustworthy. You would question every decision from then on.
Darcy is a dream with his gentle embraces but confident demeanor. I just have to say I wanted to see Darcy take him on but alas the approach in this book is very mild. The author shields all of us readers from the violence only painting those brief images. But if you are like me it is those moments in books that get your heart pumping that you want. I'm not saying I want to see Elizabeth defiled but I love Brenda Webbs work she brings it to the pages and you need a warning label. Lol. I know not all of us readers crave the intensity and drama but at least one does. I still loved the emotion felt between D&E it added depth especially at one point in the book when Lizzy questions what kind of wife she'd make for Darcy. She worried she'd push him away remembering the past attack. My oh my ladies Darcy's reassuring speech is swoon worthy. It's been said before but I'll say it again they just don't make men like Darcy anymore. I really want to get some sandlewood and citrus candles to burn at my house now. Enjoy!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 1, 2024A beautiful story of pain and tears and love. A story of healing and strength. I found the story so compelling, I couldn’t put it down and I know it is going to stay with me for a long time. And the tears it generates will leak sadness and love. Thank you, Christie.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 13, 2023The premise of this is that Wickham attempts to rape Elizabeth and she manages to knock him out. Darcy comes join her moments later and she clings to him for safety. The rest of the book is her somewhat learning to process and deal with what happened, relying heavily on Darcy. It does portray ptsd in a fairly accurate way but you only get the beginning stages of healing here as that is all that is really applicable to the storyline. However as someone with ptsd I'm not sure that the speed of the romance was either a good idea or realistic. It did work extremely well for the story though.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 22, 2021Thank you for a beautiful story. The premise is important and was handled with care. There were a few things the midwife stated that I questioned, but I will tentatively trust that the research done by the author supported these portions.
I would have liked to have seen E's recovery through longer periods and other situations, such as eventual interactions with family and old acquaintances. In short, I would have liked to see this covered in a novel. (I still would have liked a quick marriage of the couple so that they could face the trials together.)
Thank you for attempting this topic.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 2, 2017I don't like novellas much. I prefer slightly dirty over squeeky clean. I prefer comedies to tragedies. I don't like the main characters bemoaning their fates for over half a book. Clear all that away. This novella has such a masterful command of words that more wouldn't have made the story one bit better. If Ms. Capps wanted to write a book a day, I would take another mortgage on my house to buy them all. Of course Mr Darcy's Bad Day was more humorous as befitting the subject matter. But this Darcy, this is the man every woman has fallen in love with. While this Lizzy doesn't get to display her joyous zest for life and sparkling eyes, she is our heroine. She's going to put one foot in front of the other and keep on going. Maybe this review says more about me than about this book but if I ruled the world I'd insist that everyone read it.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 28, 2017I want to give this novel 3,5 stars because I think it is a full novel story rather than a short story. Elaborated, with more meat on the bone, it could easily have been a 5 star...
It is a difficult subject to write, starting with a failed attempt of rape. While I think the emotions are well described, it feels rushed which is hard to avoid in a short story. Darcy is lovely, though maybe a tad heavy on the sugar... Elizabeth is OOC which is natural in theese circumstances.
There are funny moments, adored the kiss scene with Georgiana as a witness.
A good read but not exceptional.

Corto ma originale nella trama. Un what if che osa , forzando il carattere e la immortalità di Wickam fino ad un atto che JA non avrebbe potuto descrivere data l'epoca

5.0 out of 5 stars Gut wrenching, heart wrenching but so good
There is pain, a lot of it. There is hope, a lot of it. This is a novella, short but incredibly powerful. I will read this again and again at intervals and am sure that I will love it as much each time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great short story
I first read For Pemberley via Kindle Unlimited and so enjoyed this short story that I had to buy it, as I know I'll want to read it again. It had all the right ingredients to keep me hooked from start to finish, and although there was definite angst at the beginning of the story there was none between Darcy and Elizabeth. I hope it won't be too long before there are more short stories from this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars loved it
Hard in places because of the trauma but I loved Darcy in this, he was perfect, I love that Lizzy fought like a lioness and I like that she didn’t automatically bounce back from it. Great read.
