Forbidden Eyes (A Cane Novel Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 68 ratings

“Do you want to take me?”
That's what she said to me after she stepped out of the pool, skin dripping wet, her body on display to tempt me.
A simple babysitting job—that's all it was meant to be. Show her some element of the life she'd been kept from. But she couldn’t keep her pretty mouth shut when I showed her what she asked me for, and I couldn't keep my damned eyes off her.
Sofia Vico was the one woman no one touched. Forbidden.
I should have stayed away. Should have done as Quinn asked and kept her safe. But I crossed the line and broke the rules.
For her.

“The things I could show you.“
This started out as an act of defiance against my father—a way to finally fill in the blanks I’d lived with my whole life. But the doors to the cage I'd been kept in had suddenly been flung wide open, and I wasn’t ready for the truth waiting for me. Or for Carter Wade.
He was my saviour in the dark, muddied underworld I knew nothing of. A man with skills that both frightened and aroused me. And if I thought scars and guns were the worst I’d have to face, I was wrong. Murder, kidnapping, and a family torn in two was our consequence. Yet he still risked everything, including his life. For me.

Temptation. Deceit. Dark. Romance

Sofia Vico has lived all of her 19 years under her fathers thumb. He loves her more than anything. When he refuses to let her go to her friends birthday party, she rebels.
Fia finds herself on a bus to Chicago seeking solace at her Uncle Quinn’s house. She wants to know what kind of man and business her dad has. Quinn sends her to Miami with Carter Wade to fulfill her wishes.
Both Fia and Carter fight an attraction. He’s too old for her and she is Benjamin Vico’s daughter. When things go south in Miami, Carter decides he might as well take the plunge with her.
This is the fourth book in a series. I have not read the first three. It worked well as a stand alone but I suspect small bits of information from past books was passed on in this story.
What initially drew me to this book was that Carter is diabetic. My husband is as well. As much as I read, I haven’t read any other books with a diabetic main character.
Carters diabetes gives the impression that he is a weak man. He’s not. He is a strong alpha male who manages his disease well. There was one point in the story that was beyond his control where it was dicey. Having been in that situation with my hubby, I can empathize with Fia as she’s watches what she cannot control.
Fia, though young, is also strong. Having been raised by a father in the mafia (she didn’t know), she knows how to command what she wants. The interactions between the two of them are explosive, whether it is fighting or loving.
This story was long but was a quick read. There are multiple climaxes in the plot but not to the point where you are left thinking “another problem?”. The flow of the story is pleasant and captivating. I’ll certainly look into the first three. But first, I must read book five as it’s ARC is sitting in my kindle bookshelf.

I struggled a bit with this book. Not because of the content or storyline. I knew going in that it was a dark erotic romance, and I'm okay with that. In fact, I like dark romance, and this one is deliciously dark and dangerous. The part I struggled with was Carter. I had a really hard time warming up to him. I think my problem lay with my initial reaction to him. He comes across as cold to the point of being unredeemable, and for me, some redeeming quality is what makes a character like this work. That said, I did eventually warm up to him, but it took some doing. Sophia, on the other hand, is a character I could get behind. I love her sass and her feisty attitude. Once I did warm up to Carter and the relationship between this pair, I was able to enjoy the story. The book does work as a standalone in that I had no problem understanding what was going on between the characters, and the dynamic of this family, but I do think it would've been better had I read the earlier books. Nevertheless, this is a fast-paced, dark read, and love them or hate them, these characters are certainly interesting.

Charlotte Hart and Rachel De Lune have nailed it. They left me speechless and I had to calm my palpitating heart numerous times. They’ve brought in a new generation of characters to mesh with the old. They’ve brought spark to the pages along with their signature mafia tension and drama. The forbidden-taboo romance of Carter and Sophia was my absolute favourite of the series. I loved everything about it. It is intense, steamy, and unpredictable. Prepare yourself for some heart-stopping, nail-biting scenes.

I’ve been enjoying the Cane novels since the beginning. Each book is a perfect blend of dark, intense, steamy drama. Each book features the romantic journey of a different couple in the crime/mafia world that is owned by the Canes and the Vico’s. I especially love how each book has a focus on the taming of the mafia bosses. It is so much fun to watch them struggle with their emotionless mind and body when the right woman enters their life. Each book has superseded the last and now Forbidden Eyes has done it again.

I couldn’t put this one down. Carter and Sophia have a connection and chemistry that neither of them could deny or resist. Try as they might, nothing, not even the threat of certain death, could keep them apart. Each of these characters are strong and formidable. They stand on their own merits and I hope to see more of them in future books. The scenes are shocking; some made me cringe. The authors made this book come to life as I followed the story in my mind, imagining the surroundings, immersing myself in this mafia world with these wonderful characters and their intertwined lives.

I certainly hope these authors continue this co-writing experience as they now seem to have perfected it. Each chapter flows into another seamlessly; their writing styles are different, yet they have a system that works. I love this author pairing and I look forward to more from each of them.

Forbidden Eyes by Charlotte E Hart and Rachel De Lune is book Four in the Cane Series. This is the story of Sofia Vico and Carter Wade. I have read the previous books and I do feel that helped me to enjoy this one which is several years into the future from the other books. But with that said, I do feel you could make this a standalone book. Carter is the boy that Quinn Cane and Emily Brooks raised in the first book 'Innocent Eyes'. Sofia is the child of Benjamin Vico and Hope Winters that was in 'Vengeful Eyes'. Sofia has lived a very protected life so much so that when she is around 19 years old she wanted to go to out but they wouldn't let her. So she sneaked out to go to her Uncle Quinn to escape and possible teach her father a lesson. But Carter is the one that gets assigned to her and the lesson being learned is by her. Carter feels that he has a cold destructive heart that can't be broken into. But the more he is around Sofia the more there starts to be cracks. But of course nothing goes easy. Enjoyed this book and series.

    Well holy hell!!!
Years have passed and this book is about the children, who are all grown up.
Vico was a bit of a loose canon in the last book, and I loved him. Here, not so much. In fact, I really didn't like him at all!!!
Sofia Vico is all grown up and has had enough of being controlled by her father. Fia, as she's known, flees home and runs to her uncles, Quinn and Nate. There she hopes to learn about her father and his business empire.
She meets Carter, the man the Canes have running things. The attraction is instantaneous but Carter's years older than Fia, and knows the risks of getting involved with Benjamin Vico's daughter. As they are thrown together and fall in love, all hell is let loose.
Families are torn apart. And new ones are formed.
    Excellent reading!!!

Ah, I think this is the best book I've read this year. It hooked me in from the beginning. The characters, the story, the twists and turns...I loved it all. I started at book 4, but I will need to go back to book 1, because I need to know the story behind Quinn and Nate. It's definitely worth one clicking.
