Forbidden Lyrics: A Best Friend's Sister Romance (Lightning Strikes Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 83 ratings

Falling in love with your best friend's little sister is never a good idea. Getting caught kissing her, that's even worse.

I watched Lizzie Donovan grow up - from pigtails and scraped knees to pouty lips and lush curves.

It wasn't until one night nine years ago in the front seat of her car, with her lips on mine, that I realized what I was feeling was far more than friendship.

Of course, I felt her brother's wicked left hook shortly after.

One promise was all it took to push her away.

Not anymore.

This is my chance.

I have three months to convince her that she's the song in my heart and we're more than just forbidden lyrics.

A lover of all things happily ever after, Jodie Larson has always been a romantic at heart. Blame it on her sign, but Cancers are hopeless romantics. This is why her stories are filled with swoony moments and even swoonier men because the world could use a little more love.

Jodie lives along the shores of Lake Superior in northern Minnesota with her family, 3 dogs, 2 cats, and all the voices in her head. She began her writing career early, getting poems published in Seventh Grade, then moved on to writing Sweet Valley High fanfic in her spare time. Fast forward several years, and she finally got the courage to write her first novel, Fated to be Yours. In addition to the many stories rolling through her head, she's an avid reader and doesn't shy away from a good challenge.

Forbidden Lyrics (Lightning Strikes, book 3) by Jodie Larson is just as phenomenal as its predecessors but for entirely different reason. I discovered Jodie before attending an author signing by chance. Over the course of reading the Lightning Strikes books, Brecken totally stole my heart. When I saw that his book was up next in the series, I started jumping up and down in my seat, and no joke, immediately started stalking the poor author on every social media site I could find her on. It's noteworthy that while I met her in person at the signing, it wasn’t until I was home that I put two and two together to realize that I not only loved her work, but that she had been the author that left me gutted when I read Serenading the Shadows. I knew through reading Kade and Miles books that Brecken had a thing for Lizzy, Miles’s sister. But I was woefully unprepared for just how deep his feeling ran for her. I mean, a simple kiss, irrupted before it could be more then just a simple kiss…yet this simple kiss led to years of built up longing on both Brecken and Lizzy’s parts that would pave the way for…everything! Finally, Breck and Lizzy’s time has come, and Jodie Larson could not have told a more beautiful story.

If you’ve read previous books by Jodie Larson, you expect a certain caliber of writing and flare to accompany her stories. Her words are truly beautiful and well crafted. Forbidden Lyrics certainly does not disappoint. Larson's books are always well written with characters that you just want to hug and shake at the same time. I love that her books are full of angst and heartache and while they are exceptionally sexy it is not a result of sacrificing the story in any way. I mean, sure they have lots of sexy times…which I greatly appreciate in a romance! But the sexy times are not the story. Instead they are definitely a show of support in the chemistry department BUT nonetheless an actual plot exists. Drama exists like one would experience in real life and not just fiction. Lizzy and Brecken keep their budding romance under wraps to avoid hurting the person they are both closest to. The Bro Code is real, you know?! And while it’s a significant part of this romance, it’s not the only obstacle this hero and heroine must overcome to find their HEA. Breck and Lizzy will singe your kindles and leave you wanting a cold shower. You will absolutely love the premise that this unrequited love will finally see the light of day…I certainly did!

Another important factor that Larson takes great pains to include in this series is the importance of family and friends. I mean, honestly, we all have some sort of support system in place, and so do Larson’s characters. The entire Lightning Strikes band is far more than just acquaintances; they are a family first and foremost. Money is only worth so much and these guys seem to acknowledge that as their success continues to exceed their wildest expectations. And even though Miles’ title as the a$$hole is alive and well in Forbidden Lyrics, his role as the big brother and best friend is what caused the majority of the existing strife. The secondary characters are just as much a part of the story as the hero and heroine in Larson’s works and that keeps me far more then just entertained…it keeps me emotionally invested in their HEA. I know that I am extremely excited to see what Larson has planned for Pax and hope that his book is next on her agenda!

I love rockstar romance. I love experiencing new authors. It was a no-brainer to me to pick up Serenading the Shadows a few months back to get a little of both in my life. But, make no mistake, just because I love both rockstar romance, and new authors, I do not read multiple titles by an author just because they have one book classify in the aforementioned categories. They have to have an adeptness to writing a story that is not only entertaining, but clever and endearing. Their stories need to entwine themselves into my heart because I will undoubtedly read them more then once. Jodie’s stories meet all my expectations for a great read, and it’s easy to love her words. Brecken and Lizzy’s story feels different then it’s predecessors but that’s just another reason to love Larson’s work. It’s not the same story reproduced again and again. It’s new and excited each time. Do yourself a favor…Buy Forbidden Lyrics. You certainly won’t be sorry! Regardless of whether you’ve read Larson’s work before or not, this story will have you falling in love with Brecken! Second chance romances and rockstars have never meet so beautifully…

This was an amazing book in this awesome series. I loved that we had a sister involved. I loved that she would be paired with this particular man. I also loved that he would eventually need to do battle with another band member before he could have his HEA. The tension before this almost was my undoing. My binge reading of this series has been such an amazing experience for me. I love how this group of folks always remember where they came from. I love that Quinn and Gabe always provide a home base for them. I love that they each seem to be finding a home for that place to be themselves. These folks know where they have come from. This book delivered and I was thrilled with the ending. Paperback love yet again and great job Jodie! denise bailey

The boys of Lightning Strikes have been a family of friends since they were kids, and Brecken and Myles have been best friends for as long as they have known each other. One stolen kiss between Lizzie and Breck resulted in Miles pummeling Brecken while issuing threats of more bodily harm if it ever happened again. Of course the guys were 21 while Lizzie was just 17, but Myles never deviates from his belief that his sister is just a kid who needs to be protected and who can't make her own decisions.

Ten years later, both Lizzie and Brecken still hide their feelings from each other but it is becoming increasingly difficult now that the guys are all back home for a few months. Myles is still a knuckle dragging caveman with double standards apparently, and that is the most polite statement I can make about him. I swear he is one of the characters that will forever reside on my "dislike" list!

But I digress! Breck and Lizzie fall back into an easy friendship with an undercurrent of UST set to sizzling slow burn as they find any reason to spend time together. When they finally face it head on, Lizzie is still reluctant to call it anything more than casual fun despite knowing full well feelings are involved on her part. She is just too blind to acknowledge that Breck has feelings as well and it is obvious to everyone except her.

Breck is the sexy soulful one of the group it seems, and every moment they are forced to hide along with every refusal by Lizzie to acknowledge her feelings cuts him a little bit deeper. I am sure you can predict how well it goes over when the truth inevitably comes out, but Lizzie's reaction was the biggest disappointment to me. Fortunately her girls successfully get her head out of her butt and all is well in the end.

This was my first read by this author, and perhaps I would have a better opinion of Myles if I had read his story first... maybe, but I am not optimistic. I will be on the lookout for Pax's story in the future though to see how he finds his own HEA as the last single man in the band.

I really am enjoying this series. It just keeps getting better and better. I love the group of characters. Now onto and Lizzie. How can you not fall and love with these two. They have been dancing around each other most of their lives too afraid to admit their feelings because Lizzie is the little sister of Brecken’s best friend and bandmate. It doesn’t help that Brecken made a promise to Myles 9 years ago that he wouldn’t go there but now Brecken is ready for his happily ever after now he just has to convince Lizzie which makes for a great story that leaves you with all the warm fuzzies. On to Paxton.

So so good! This was my favorite so far of the Lightning Strikes series! Brecken...gah...I loved him. He's definitely my favorite of the boys. I loved that he was sweet, sensitive, sexy and yet still had that touch of Alpha. I also loved getting to catch up with our other favorite couples from the Lightning Strikes series. My only complaint was with Lizzie. I felt she was kind of old to still be letting her brother control her life, so frustrating! Looking forward to reading Pax's book!
