- Reviewed in the United States on October 9, 2020I really liked these short stories. Each tale is truly inspired by Poe and contains either ravens, black cats, specters, or a singular madman... oh, there are vampires too. The stories are short, the plots are twisted and deliver you to an unexpected ending.
The authors’ writing styles are diverse and very skilled. I highly recommend this read.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 12, 2020Here are four short stories in the Poe tradition: dark, Gothic, and spooky.
I thought “An Unkindness” by Crist was the scariest (though I got lost a little with the timeline and took off half a star).
I held my breath at certain points in the “Black Cats & Ravens” story by Moore, very tension-filled and well-done.
“Rhapsodie de Claire Elise” by St. Lee had the most beautiful descriptions of music I have ever read.
The final story, “Forevermore, My Beloved” by Miller, was the most atmospheric and perhaps the truest to Poe’s style.
There are all sorts of allusions to Poe’s poetry and fiction in this anthology . . . a one-eyed black cat, a character named Lenore, an owl (Poe’s “The Raven” in its first draft was about an owl), etc. It was great fun reading. Poe fans and Gothic fans in general will get a kick out of these stories.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 12, 2021The tales in this book will definitely put you in mind of the Great Edger Allan Poe. I found this tale to go from creepy to absolutely depraved. If you love these types of stories I highly recommend this book. I am voluntarily leaving my honest unbiased review here.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 12, 2021Since E.A. Poe is one of my favorite writers, I was looking forward to reading this collection—and I wasn’t disappointed. Especially the story Rhapsodie De Claire Elise made me feel as if I was reading a piece by Poe himself, as it was twisted and macabre yet beautiful and masterfully written. I also enjoyed Forevermore, My Beloved, which is based on the famous poem, The Raven. If you like Poe, you’ll enjoy this book, particularly the two aforementioned pieces.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tribute to a classic author...forevermore...
An Unkindness – Vonnie Winslow Crist 4/5
A strong opening tale where a pair of grave robbers are met with worse consequences they set out to avoid. This is a grisly tale that is well written and easy to follow. A classic idea of being watched by ravens spirals toward a tragic ultimatum for the MC, causing a somewhat sad ending that contrasts to the slightly comical elements it started with. Excellent story of darkness and misdemeanour.
Black Cats & Ravens – Eddie D. Moore 4/5
This story carries on a darkness with its sense of hindsight from the child MC in a stark isolation of mind. Reciting events from an orphanage, we find out how he ended up there through a series of twisted events involving his parents, a black cat, and indeed a raven. The first person perspective gives a sense of depth and dread for the character as we see the people he trusts most change around him to a disturbing level.
Rhapsodie De Claire Elise – Sue Marie St. Lee 5/5
I love the way this story is written, from the perspective of a gothic era musician who is out for the most beautiful harmonies of orchestral tone. But that tone is much more grisly than it appears as this tale goes on to blend deeper, darker undertones into it’s excellent Poe style language and techniques. The characterisation is great, the way he worships the woman of musical talent and befriends her with true awe of her skills, yet shows absolutely no remorse for the death trap he has in store for her. Lee represents a true psychopath well in this eloquently told tale.
Forevermore, My Beloved – Terry Miller 4/5
A very sad, yet very fitting tale to end this short collection. Miller’s story focusses on loss and symbolism in classic Poe style. It’s a simple tale of a lonely man who mourns his deceased wife who seemed to take her own life for a reason unbeknown to him. Without spoiling too much, the tragic ending brings the MC’s pain straight to the reader which is orbited by the presence of a certain bird. This is a touching, very enjoyable dark tale and what it lacks in narrative it makes up for in emotive presence and the atmospherics of an old gothic mansion overlooking the sea.
Overall 4/5
Despite only four stories within, this is an enjoyable anthology where each one serves Poe well in the form of tribute. It would certainly inspire a reader unfamiliar with his work to seek it out as each author has created an atmosphere mixed with symbolism of classic Poe animals and quotes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Chillingly Forevermore
If you like an eerie gripping tale or four, this book is for you. Each story crafted with its own macabre flavour as an ode to Poe.
