I have a Ph.D. in English with a specialty in creative writing, and I taught writing on the college level for years. Besides that, I am a mystery writer myself, and that should give me the right to make comments about the work of other writers. To be honest, a few of Callaghan's writing habits make me want to bite. But the work taken all together is so impressive that her quirks are forgivable.

Fiction is usually driven by plot or by character. Callaghan 's fiction is definitely in the second category. The plots tend to be complex but light, whereas the characters are more and more themselves in each successive work. It takes considerable skill to balance so many characters who are in every book one way or another, even if sometimes some appear only in the form of emails and phone calls.

I cannot help wondering why the reviewer who called this another book not worth reading (or something like that; I didn't read past the first sentence.) bothers to read more of Callaghan 's books! I suspect that I am more qualified than she to comment, and I find them well worth reading. If I were a buyer/editor for a publishing company, I would recommend the purchase of the books subject to a thorough edit.

I strongly recommend that these books be read in order. In some character-driven series, such as the Pam and Jerry North books, the central characters remain the same been as the world changes around them. But in Callaghan seria the characters do change from book to book to book.

Great addition to the series, poor Andrea, girl is like Meredith Grey, something bad always happening to her. Can’t wait for the next book to see what Gloria and her Garden Girl friends get up to.

I have read many books by this author, and I really love her. It was fun to read this mystery about Gloria and all of her friends, who help her solve the murder mystery.

Here in book 13 Brian is the victim of a burglary. The mystery in this story is interesting but the plot is contrived. Having his fiancee Andrea run away from the challenges of Brian's amnesia is ridiculous. The author has shown an excellent imagination, so it is disappointing that she has not developed better behavior choices for her characters. In addition, producing a new character who creates magical herbal potions is fairly ridiculous and adds a note of idiocy to what should be a fun series.

I am enjoying this series of books. A little old fashioned, funny in parts and a change to the usual detectives that are characters in other detective stories. It makes a change having a group of ladies doing the sleuthing. Looking forward to reading more.

I’m enjoying all of the characters and their stories in this series very much. I found myself wanting to pray for one of the characters at one point. If you like cozy mysteries as opposed to mysteries that might keep you awake at night, this I’d the series for you!
