Fortune Calling: The Story of Dallas Fortune. (The Fortune Series Book 1) Kindle Edition
Meet Dallas Fortune, a small town Tennessee girl with a gift for playing guitar. A member of her family has played the Grand Ol Opry since it began as a simple radio show in 1925. They are the minstrels, the troubadours--session players--not stars. Dallas lives her life on the road. She’s just another guitar player with a dream until she finds an antique blue mandolin in a pawn shop. At a crossroad in her life, Dallas struggles to see if the future is among the stars, in the cards or locked in the heart.
Is the future among the stars, in the cards or locked in your heart?
Fortune Calling is the first story in The Fortune Series. Set in contemporary Nashville and rural Tennessee, the series chronicles the life and loves of Dallas Fortune.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 24, 2015Format: KindleVerified PurchaseDallas is a mandolin player and has been for over 22 years for Dolly Parton's band but something happens during a sound check that sets her life backwards a few years.
And this is when she also met Billie Jo Macallister one the best guitar players in Nashville. Dallas falls hard for him but things are not always what they seem with Billie Jo. She goes through hell with this man off and on for years.
Dallas Fortune heads back into Tennessee and she spots a Fortune Readers Cottage sign and decides to go in and have her cards read. Although she fears anymore bad things happening in her life she has to know.
Ernesto is a nice looking man or so Dallas thinks when she walks into the fortune reading place.
He reads her fortune but refuses her money. What he tells her makes sense and she sets out to
put her life right for her.
She gets a call from Dolly Parton and Tina Turner that will change her life again but for the better.
This is a very short book , A first for me by this author. It is well written and leaves us with a cliffhanger.
I will be reading the next one.

I love the peek into Nashville's music scene! It made me feel like an insider to a city and industry that has captured the world's attention. For a short story, Dallas, her long time love for Billie Joe and her new flirtation with Ernesto left me looking forward to the next story in this series.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 24, 2015Format: KindleVerified PurchaseYou don't have to be a big country music fan to enjoy this fun and romantic little serial about a woman making her way up in the Nashville scene (I mean who doesn't love Dolly Parton??), taking to the road and dealing with personal and professional issues along the way.
This was a really short introduction to Dallas Fortune (cool name) and the men in her life so far...as well as an encounter with a fortune teller/card reader as she is going through a really tough time in her career.
I got it when it was free and also grabbed the next in the series.
Fun, witty and gives you that down home comfortable feeling when you read it! Just wish it had been longer than 23 pages to allow more time for details and background story.
**** 3.5 **** "a girl and her magical blue mandolin" stars
- Reviewed in the United States on January 22, 2015Format: KindleVerified PurchaseFinding ones self: Fortune Calling (The story of Dallas Fortune) by Hunter S. Jones
There are stars mentioned in this book, can't name them, you have to read to find out. Dallas loves playing the guitar, but she really good at playing the mandolin, hers is called, La Belle Dame Bleu. She is in a band traveling with a really big star. Dallas meets a handsome well known country singer. Dallas is not into the glitz and glamour, she just loves playing, but the dude she meets spends like a star and lives like one. Dallas is in and out with this dude, she thinks she's in love, maybe she is. Dallas has a accident and goes back to her home town to mend. Is it the hurt wrist or her she's trying to mend? They say it'll take two years to heal, this means her career is over? Dallas is driving through her town in the rain and sees a fortune teller sign, does she go in? Will she believe what's said if she does? It's all here for you to read, download and find out Dallas's fate. It's easy to read when it's a well written book. This is a short story and I can't wait to read more about Dallas.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 17, 2014Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI have read some of this author's previous works, and the one thing that makes me pick up her books is the way that Hunter S.Jones seems to identify with the character. It is a bit like looking into the author's soul. How many of us have felt entirely hopeless and then have a kind of chance come along giving us a gentle nudge and pushing us along? It's like having an angel sitting on one shoulder and a naughty imp on the other. One keeps playing tricks on you and when you're completely shattered and broken, the angel gives you a hand.
I was able to relate to the character of Dallas as she struggles through the mire of life. It's real life and reality sucks most of the time but life's never perfect, is it? The author conveys this in an almost lyrical way and the character comes to life brilliantly.
A great read!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 27, 2014Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis is a wonderful short story set in Nashville. The story rings true about the tough life for musicians--even the successful ones in the hometown of The Grand Ole Opry and other legendary country music venues. The heroine at the center of the story, Dallas Fortune, is an interesting character--earnest, reflective, and intent on finding her way forward after a series of setbacks in her personal and professional life. She's not your usual underdog--talented, attractive, and some money in the bank. But she's a woman who's had her share of trouble and I'm hoping she finds her way. This is well-written fiction that makes me want to read more by this talented writer. A recommended read!

- Reviewed in the United States on March 3, 2014Format: KindleVerified PurchaseIn this excellent short story, the author manages to weave self-help, relationship advice, and life lessons into a beautiful reading moment, filled with vivid imagery and honest emotion. The story is a fast read, which is good because once you get started you won’t want to stop until it is done. As is only true for the best of stories, this one feels very real, as if it is the author’s own personal life rather than a character’s. In only twenty some odd pages you grow to know and love this character. Although the story is quite complete and stand alone, I am now quite invested and would like to know what happens next in her life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fortune Hits the High Notes
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseFortune Calling (The Fortune Series,#1) by Hunter S Jones is a heart-warming contemporary romance set in the harsh music world. The author pulled me in from the first chord and filled every page with notes both high and low to compose a masterful C&W operetta worthy of the Grand Ole Opry.
Dallas Fortune (love this name) struggles to make a name for herself in the brutal world of C&W. She can play a guitar with the best of them, but guitarists are a dime a dozen. Then one day she discovers a mandolin and her fortune changes in more ways than she could ever wish for.
Dallas falls in love with the hottest name in the business and plays in his band. She is also befriended by the biggest name ever who plays her fairy Godmother. But as often happens, it all comes crumbling down.
Alone and jobless, Dallas drifts along until she sees a neon sign that calls to her. She enters the shop and has her fortune read.
Will the cards put Dallas back onto the road to fortune, will her love life finally get put on track. The cards tell her something amazing, so read this wonderful book to find out.
A FIVE STAR drama/romance for all lovers of life music and fortunes waiting n the wings. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Short, well writen, and beautiful
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis short story was an experience for me. I usually read big chunky books but decided to give this a go, thinking it would be a small story in a small book. I was wrong. Hunter. s. Jones is a very talented writer who describes inner feelings and scenes with great visual aplomb.
Her story melted my heart. Dallas is a character who has a great big story behind her. Her love for a man, who in my opinion is not good enough for her, is indicative of many unrequited or selfish love stories in this real world we live in. I felt her heart strings tug between an, almost obsessive love for a man, to the reality of the man's behaviour. She describes her passions and her dreams to the extent that she has left me wanting more; wanting to read more about the Character, Dallas Fortune. This, for me is the greatest gift a book, no matter how long or short, can give me, for it means I loved every minute reading it.

5.0 out of 5 stars AUTHENTIC PASSION
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseFirst book in the series set in Nashville detailing the life and adventures of guitar-playing Dallas Fortune. The story, told in the first person, is immediate, riveting and bursting with authenticity, exploring Dallas's obsessive passion for somebody who maybe does not merit her love.
