"Rich historical romance filled with buried secrets and simmering passion, where determined heroines challenge society's rules to find true love and their own destiny."

Award-winning author Beverley Oakley crafts emotionally intense historical romances that transport readers to the glittering yet treacherous world of Georgian, Regency, and Victorian England.

Her stories delve deep into the hearts of strong-willed heroines who must navigate both the rigid social constraints of the British aristocracy and their own conflicting desires. Writing between Australia and Europe, Beverley draws on her own romantic history - having met her Norwegian husband while managing a safari lodge in Africa's Okavango Delta - to infuse her tales with authentic passion and adventure.

Through carefully researched historical detail and complex character relationships, she weaves stories where love blooms in unexpected places, and where passion and duty collide. Each novel combines the timeless appeal of historical Britain with psychological depth and emotional authenticity, creating an immersive experience where romance and personal growth intertwine against a backdrop of scandal, intrigue, and social transformation.

Adventure is certainly in the air. I could hardly turn the pages fast enough to see what would happen next.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a mystery and conflict because for me I wasn’t sure how the author would bring this all together for a happy ending.

I originally had stopped reading this, taking a look at the ending and closing it up. I was then talking to my daughter in law who said, "how do you really know that you wouldn't like it but wanted to see the ending." That got me thinking and I had to admit she was right. I picked up the book again and started from the beginning and couldn't quite figure out why I stopped reading it. It was a good story and good characters and one couldn't really appreciate the ending without reading the whole thing. A great H & h, with a second h, several nasty villains, and a few semi-unscrupulous buttinskis.

Lizzy wants nothing more than to make a love match. Her controlling guardian, Mrs. Hodge, has other plans. She promised Lizzy to dashing fortune hunter Mr. Dalgleish in exchange for a portion of Lizzy’s inheritance. While Lizzy knows Mr. Dalgleish is only after her money, he is charming and persuasive. He is also her best hope to escape the cruelty of Mrs. Hodge’s household. Theo McAlister’s reputation is in tatters. The last thing this self-confessed fortune hunter needs is another heiress complicating his life. When Lizzy suddenly becomes his responsibility after he rescues her from a carriage accident en route to a house party, Theo is determined to return her to her guardian. Sparks fly and attraction sizzles between them. He is on a mission to atone for his past. He now has to decide whether love or restoring his reputation is more important. – I liked Lizzy and Theo, but the story goes back and forth too much. The sister matchmakers are humorous, as are their husbands. This is an unusual read that could have been much better.

Lizzy wants to make a love match, but for some reason, her guardian, Mrs. Hodge, as chosen a man man who, though pleasant enough, seems to be in need of her fortune. But when Lizzy is rescued from death by a fortune hunter, and taken to his estate to recover, she gets to know Theo McAlister quite well. Unable to keep from thinking of him, Lizzy us caught in a web of deceit by others with their own best interest at heart.
This story will keep you engulfed in its twists and turns until the very end, and you'll be very happy that it did!

Very funny and very witty, Lizzy and Theo’s story was very good. Theo has been branded not only a fortune hunter, but also the cause of the ruination of an heiress. Lizzy is an heiress with a fortune. Fate conspires for them to meet, and mayhem follows. A very good read.

I really enjoyed this book. Ms. Oakley's cast of both main and supporting characters keeps the story interesting and I truly didn't see hide she was going to quirk the story out fir all the characters involved. In several places I dibs myself holding my breath wondering what came next. All-in-all a thoroughly enjoyable read.

This is a standalone read, but contains profanity, attempted rape, attempted suicide, open adultery and lots of manipulation and even some blackmail. There are at least 3 story lines which run parallel. I know some didn't like the heroine, but I liked her, Theo and Miss Harcourt. No real romance to speak of. The author does tie up the loose ends though, which I appreciated because the book got confusing wth all the goings on and needed that explanation. Not a book I would re-read...
