Fragmented: a Gay Romantic Thriller (Shadow Mountain Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 108 ratings

The capture of the Tattoo Murderer has demanded a heavy price. Doctor Tobias Darwin is dead, Lieutenant Hart is back in Riverside licking his substantial wounds, and he needs to gather his courage and tell Isaac he made a mistake. Isaac will forgive him—he knows that—but he can't promise Isaac an easy life. Being a cop comes with its own risks, after all.

When they finally reach the same wavelength, their idyllic reprieve is cut tragically short. Hart doesn't know yet that Isaac is terminally ill, that he will take off to find the Phoenix to heal him as a last resort. This time, it will be Hart who pays the price.

In the meantime, a new killer roams the streets of Riverside. He kidnaps, tortures, and kills gay men in horrific ways, and he has the newly healed Isaac in his sights. Hart’s time is running out on every level.

After living in Michigan, USA for seven wonderful years, Indra Vaughn returned back to her Belgian roots. There she will continue to consume herbal tea, do yoga wherever the mat fits, and devour books while single parenting a little boy and working as a nurse.

The stories of boys and their unrequited love will no doubt keep finding their way onto the page--and hopefully into readers hands--even if it takes a little more time.

And if she gleefully posts pictures of snow-free streets in winter, you'll have to forgive her. Those Michigan blizzards won't be forgotten in a hurry.

Fated was a good book. Solid. Interesting. It had potentially two outstanding and memorable MCs. Fragmented takes good writing and characters with appeal from that book and ramps it up to favourite status for me.

A good study of love in action, as opposed to simply romance, Fragmented is bone-achingly visceral, the writing is pared back but strikingly beautiful. Haunting at times, sexy at others, it causes individual and simultaneous heartache and joy. The police procedural aspects, the thriller plot, is good. Very good. So is the supernatural thread. Secondary characters are rounded out, and I’m glad Toby gets a mention one more time.

Isaac won me over in this book because I got to see who he was. How determined and switched on. How beautiful a soul. Hart is someone very special but also his own worst enemy at times because of emotional walls and his inability to see just how wonderful he truly is, and we know this because it’s Hart’s POV.

If you’re looking for something that’s different in the genre, if you enjoy a police case or three, if you enjoy supernatural elements, and if you love a love story, because that’s what this series is, an ode to love, then you really should do yourself a massive favour and grab Fated then Fragmented. This is quality storytelling. This is the reason I read and take the time to review. 5 Stars!

Although nicely written with exciting moments, I didn't like this one nearly as much as the first one, Fated. The first quarter dragged, a great deal of the story is character-driven instead of plot-driven, and the last bit is anticlimactic with a few too many unnecessary sex scenes. Author also hinted that Isaac would "take up the mantle", so to speak, but it was barely hinted at and leaves the reader more confused than enticed. And yes I do remember the moth/butterfly on the door at the end of the story. In the end, I was left feeling somewhat disappointed. I remain hopeful the next installment has a plot the reader can really sink some teeth into.

Oh my God! This is such, "an agonizing mix of love lost and found," type of love story doused in an intriguing mystery!!! This is the type of story I crave when I go on the search for an MM romance.

I'll have to admit to figuring out who the serial killer was and I was disappointed who it ended up being but I actually want the killer's backstory now. You get a taste of it and it left me completely intrigued.

I ended up hating Roth! I hold a grudge and even with the back pedaled apology, my opinion was set.

I was a bit confused about the cabin near the end, and the butterfly but I'm thinking there will be a book 3. And if there is, then I get it what all that meant.

What a perfect mix of crime, mystery, romance, and a connection to two beautifully created characters that had believing in true love.

I really hope, wish, pray, it's MacLeod Andrews or Chris Patton who narrates this beautifully told tale of love shrouded in mystery.
Honestly, either narrator can give an outstanding performance that can bring these characters to life and actually place you into this world that the author has created for you. And this story deserves the best narrator.

I didn't think it was possible, but I think the second book in the Shadow Mountain series is even better than the first. There's something about Isaac and Hart, their romance, all they've gone through, that really strikes a chord with me. I'm not sure what it is. Indra Vaughn's writing is beautiful. Her characters are well defined. Her sex scenes are really hot, but it's not just the sex, it's the love that shines through the middle of them. These two books, Fated, and Fragmented, are perfectly executed. I hope there's a third book coming along, because I'm not ready to say good-bye to Isaac and Hart yet. Not by a long shot. If you plan on reading this, please read Fated first. You'll be missing so much if you don't.

I thought Fated was amazing, this was mind-blowing. Keeping the underlying plot of fated running in the background and then dropping a nuclear bomb on top of this novel was so well done. I found this book very to be an emotional rollercoaster and it wasn't a pleasant ride but it needed to be this way for maximum impact and it worked like a charm. Congrats on Fragmented, it was just fantastic.

I really enjoyed the mystery, characters and romance in these first two books. That being said, I don’t enjoy cliffhangers. It would not have put me off reading them, but I may have waited until the third book was out.

I don't know where to start with this book and 'Fated', the first book in this series.

They are a marvellous combination of mystery, strange occurrences and love.

These are haunting books that will stay with me for a long time.

Another excellent book from this author. I love that her characters are well developed and interesting. The storyline/plot is well written and I couldn't turn the pages quick enough. I would highly recommend this series.
