From Despair to Where: Classic Zombie Fodder Kindle Edition
Uprising. Survival. Humanity against adversity.
It's not meant to be taken too seriously. It's supposed to be fun, gripping, and a little escapism from life.
If you're fond of this genre and want something that's easy and fun to read, give it a go, especially if you like questionable intimate scenes.
Excuse the typos, I'm an independent author and although I have read through it a billion times, a few have crept in. You're clever though and will get the meaning. I have every faith in you.
Most people seem to like From Despair to Where. A few didn't. That's ok though. You can't please everyone. If you do like it, please leave a nice review. If you don't, don't leave a bad review. Remember, someone (me) has taken the time to write this and although it might not be your cup of tea or you may have even hate it, don't be that person who makes a stranger miserable on the Internet.

About the author

My name is Oliver and my book is called From Despair to Where. I have another one in the pipeline, currently called Electric Feel (which may change), but who knows when that will be ready for the world.
I've listed my social and web channels below, if you get in touch, I'll probably respond in about 5 months time. I'm no good with social media, I can't seem to care about the overload of information from the whole world's mind ramblings. It takes too much emotional energy. I will remain an enigma.
Be kind, be caring, help one another. There is one race, the human race and we must never forget that. Don't let the media or politicians try to drive division and hate. Stand up for what's right, what's honest, and what's is best for the world.
I have a family and the most important thing to me is time, forget about those material luxuries and status symbols, value the time with the ones you love and you'll be forever rich. The rest is all BS.
I'm not normally this sanctimonious, but as this is the Internet, it's important to reiterate the need to be nice.
Much love!
Oliver

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent debut novel from Oliver Smith
What a fantastic foray into novel writing from Oliver Smith. This dystopian zombie romantic thriller beautifully explores human adjustment to extreme conditions and our drive to survive. It keeps you gripped from the first page to the last, with relatable characters who you quickly become attached to, this is a story you should definitely take the time to enjoy. Cannot wait for his next great piece of work.

5.0 out of 5 stars A tense and intricate look at life after an apocolipse
I loved the interesting characters in this book and the fact that it was less about gore and more about humanity. It was tense and beautifully tender at the same time. I particularly liked the detail around societal changes and communities adapting and survival, this was fascinating. I laughed and cried which is always the sign of a good story for me.

1.0 out of 5 stars No idea why the other reviews are so positive! Terrible book.
TLDR: don't bother reading this book.
I honestly don't know how to fully explain my disdain for this book, but here are some thoughts:
1) The endless social commentary became very tedious. We get it - you don't like reality TV stars. I typically don't mind social commentary if it's done in a particularly clever or poignant way, but this was painful to read and often shoehorned in unnecessarily. The use of this in the last chapter was embarrassing.
2) The main male character of Jack was very unlikeable. He comes across as a misogynist with inadequacy issues. If this was used in a way where he grows and learns, it might have been acceptable as a character trope, but instead he's a controlling, annoying, whiny character that amounts to absolutely nothing. He contributes nothing. The author paints him as a white knight and he reads like he's spent too much time on Reddit. Lucy deserved better.
3) The constant need for the main female character (Lucy) to praise the main male character (Jack) was absolutely exhausting. The author repeatedly states that she is a strong person, yet has her continuously dumbing herself down infront of Jack or constantly reassuring him that he's useful (he's not) and she can't do anything without him (she can).
4) The sex scenes. Good god.
5) There are typos everywhere (Chole instead of Chloe made me laugh), there are words left in sentences that should have been removed with editing, sometimes a character will talk to another but the wrong character replies (a mistake, not as a part of the dialogue). In one scene the author describe a list of characters in each vehicle, then on the very next page they list them again. There is repeated use of words close together and further repeating of information, like the author thinks the reader has forgotten. This happens very frequently and it's frustrating to read.
6) The book could have been around half the size with editing. It is far too long and contains far too much pointless information.
7) I didn't understand the chapters containing random facts and figures about the world at the time (or yet more social commentary). They completely remove the reader from the story.
8) The villain's backstory made me eye roll. It felt entirely unnecessary as his story contributed nothing to the plot overall. He also amounted to very little as a character in general.
All in all, it felt like a very cliched zombie story (like the author had watched The Walking Dead, World War Z, and a touch of Kill Bill and mushed them into 400 pages), with unlikeable characters, terrible structure and a plot that doesn't truly go anywhere.
Don't waste your time and money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book to get lost in
From the very beginning until the end, you just want to know what is going to happen next! You get very quickly into the book and it has all of the elements that keeps you wanting to read on. Loved how the main female character, Lucy, is determined and strong in her fight for survival along with Jack. A great book to get lost in. Look forward to future books from Oliver!
