Updated manuscript: June 2023
As Jane learns that monsters are real, that legends are truth and that the man who saved her life is an immortal knight, it's her secret past with the Angel of Death that changes everything.

Gods & Monsters - Book One
When the plague of all plagues begins its destruction, it isn't a miracle cure by scientists or even our military that saves us.No, our saviors are monsters.

Jane appears to be nothing special. In fact, she's a sad sight to behold. Afflicted by the sorrow of her tragic past and failing marriage, the young mother of two is as terrified as every other soul when humanity faces doom. Yet, when hope seems lost, Jane does something even her estranged husband fails to--she fights. And she's not alone.

David and his companions are what our world has dismissed as mere legend. Their duty to the human race brings them across the country, and they all know it is no coincidence when they cross paths with Jane.

As it happens, Jane is special. She's destined to rid the world of darkness.

With monsters from every nightmare seeking her out, a noble immortal knight showing her what love truly feels like, a secret past that even Jane can't remember, and even more powerful beings wagering the fate of her soul, Jane will embark on an epic journey to save her family and the world.

So what will happen when they realize she's the greatest monster of them all?

If you want an instant, fearless heroine, Jane won't be your gal. If you actually want to read a deep, epic story and witness every character grow throughout their journey, give this trilogy a try. Each book completes a part of the whole journey and should be read in its entirety.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"The plot of this novel is unique and it reads like a movie, and you can imagine the details in perfect glory. Never before have I read a book that has a ton of action as well as intellectual depth. In other words, this book has brains behind it; it is not a senseless, quick, fantasy read!" -Redheadedbooklover Blog

"If the kind of character you're looking for is the perfect heroine, then Jane is not your gal. If you're looking for someone real, that has survived the unthinkable, then this book is for you." Uness D. Beta reader

"This book has everything. Romance, angst, horror, war, supernatural beings, myths, legends (oh man the myths and legends-- you think you know them, but the author presents them in a whole new light). It's one of those mind blowing reading experiences that will keep you guessing and on the edge of your seat." -
Author of Hustle and Outside the Ropes, Ashley Claudy

"Every once in a while you get to find an author who has a one of a kind way of story telling, and the ability to make you a part of the fantastical world they create. That's what Janie Marie does."- Jennifer, Amazon Reviewer

"The way Janie Marie treats mental health issues is inspiring as well as refreshing to see in a novel." - Bailey, Amazon Reviewer

"This book, Gods & Monsters, is absolutely stunning. The unique and creative writing techniques the author uses as she tells this out-of-this-world story is mind blowing." - Sidney Smith, Amazon Reviewer

"It was a beautiful read and you can read this book again and again and always find something new, some detail you overlooked and in the end, you'll be amazed." - Varshini, Amazon Reviewer

"This story is an intricate one, no simplicity or cliches to be found. So pay attention, and enjoy the adventure. Get ready to read the myths and legends you know (and some you don't) like never before." - Kathryn Postma, Amazon Reviewer

From the Author

This story was created and published to honor my late BFF's request that I share my life/traumas/healing with others. It will not be for everyone, and unlike most heroines, I did not create mine to be liked by readers. She carries my abuse, sorrow, loss, and struggles... my strength, triumphs, and love. I do not hide that as I named her after myself for others to see she is more than a fictional character with these traumas and struggles.
I am aware many readers will criticize this. Jane has been called a Mary Sue more times than I can remember. I assure you—I did all of this knowing some would not understand or accept.
I hope that it reaches survivors of CSA & SA and anyone struggling with their mental health and grief. I also hope that those with patient hearts might read to get an understanding of what the struggle can be like for anyone affected by these ordeals.
While it benefited me to share my trauma through my writing, and I was encouraged by other survivors to continue sharing, it may be too triggering for some. Please read responsibly. Some people need to fully escape their minds, while others benefit from seeing others going through it all as they try to battle. This is for those people. You are not alone.
Additionally, the heroine has a child with autism. Many reviews claim I have done this to "fit with the times" and should have done research before writing this. I am a proud mama of a son who was diagnosed when he was four, during a time when social media and information were not what they are today—when support was sparse. I was very alone and lost on how to be the best mother to him. I wanted to show other parents something so they know it is okay to not know everything and to stumble and doubt yourself. Some people, especially those without experience being a parent of a child with autism like to judge others for not being perfect. You will see growth with Jane but do not expect it in book one.

Good book 2 read, bad book quality…
A page or two has fallen out of my book on day two of using it!! I’m a book lover and handle them with care. So it was upsetting to know it was falling apart. It’s a great book to read, like phenomenal book!! Just be weary of buying a paper back.🥲🥺

Saw this book on TikTok and it was a very different read than I normally would entertain. I am not a big fan per say of a dystopian future setting in a book because in all honesty, when I read, I want to be transferred to another world, preferably one that is not about to end and doesn’t showcase the worst in human society. However, for this book I was willing to give it a read without even reading the synopsis just because of the artwork and how it mentioned that there were different legends and myths inside the story in the TikTok. Imagine my surprise when it had my top 2 book details that avoid like the plague: Dystopian Future & Zombies. I didn’t realize that the Monsters in the title were for zombies. I thought maybe it had mythological monsters like the chimera or minotaur not zombies. But I managed to read it with one eye closed and never at night and ultimately, I am super happy I did. The author really made sure to give the Main Character as much trauma as possible, but it makes sense the further you read on. I loved the way she inserted so many different legends into this world and it was done in a very good way. I loved the character Death and even after finishing the series I still love him. He’s my favorite in the whole series even though he has an annoying habit that comes out later in the series. David was a great character as well, but he comes off as perfect. Almost too perfect and to read about how much hurt Jane puts him through because of her character and her faults that she allows to limit and lead her life, is almost too much to bear. It really made it hard for me to be understanding as the book went on with Jane. But this just shows that the author did an amazing job of writing about her characters as they brought out such strong emotions when I read this book. There was a good amount of spicy scenes and it seemed to help create tension and connections to the characters. I couldn’t put it down at all and jumped right into the next book as soon as I could. Ultimately, I hope Amazon releases the print version with the new artwork soon as I am dying to add it to my library asap.

This is the first apocalyptic fantasy I have read and that have alot of mythology with angels and demons and thr supernatural world built into it was intestering this book captured my time an attention for the most part and like the author states yes the constant crying and suffering and her own down fall will drive you crazy. Listen to her. It did drive me nuts about the last 1/4 of the book but hey I get it I understand it and that's ok. I hope love and passion and happiness is found in the next book. Jane deserves the love and passion she needs in life.

I really had trouble liking the main character. I understand she has a lot of trauma but I could not stand the self pity and tears for 80% of the book. The side characters were fun and got me through. But muscles and whipped men can only do so much. The interplay of different dieties and paranormal creatures was cool though. I'm sure if you relate to some of her experiences you would enjoy it more than I did.

If you want a story that connects to your mind and soul this is it. It is raw dirty and completely insane. I rarely experience awesomeness like this. How to make sense of my experience with this story.

    Book 1

First off, I put off reading this series after reading Jane’s Team which is a alternate world of this series( which is an awesome story that honestly 2 books in now on this series I’m happy and confused about reading it first. Can’t explain you have to experience it yourself. Also decide if you haven’t read any of them whether to read it first or after this trilogy. ) that this series was going to mess me up.

So I read some other books and then started this one. Because I had read JT first some characters and Easter eggs were interesting to get to know in what is their original setting.

Now onto GAM (Gods and Monsters), this story is an emotional one. From the different points of views you get into the mind of the characters. Everyone is trying to make the best of bad situations. Everyone is making choices they feel fit the situations. Mistakes are made. No one is perfect. And Jane, brave sweet Jane is at the center of it all. As I write this review I just finished the second book.

I’ll save my thoughts on that one for that book’s review. What I can tell you is nothing is what is seems. There is a lot of gray and Jane never catches a break. In this book things that have been motion before we enter the story are finally moving forward and we never see what is coming. I normally dislike FMC that are always crying or keep making stupid self- sacrifices decisions but with Jane it makes sense. It makes so much sense. It normally drives me crazy to not be able to figure out where a story is going but with this one I’m so into what is happening in the moment there is no thought of what is to come.

I love how there is a story within the story happening. It’s not busy like a epic fantasy but it not just a simple point a, b, c either. Each book so far has been the perfect length to accomplish whatever it needed to. I might feel this way cause the trilogy is done by the time I’m reading this but I truly feel satisfied when each book ended. They are sorta of a cliffhanger I feel I need time to digest after finishing.

I highly recommend this book if you need a change from other RH books. I do consider this a RH book tho some might not due to that it’s not typical formula for one. The way things play out is very realistic. It’s not simple and it both is and isn’t driving plot line. Honestly i feel I’m so focused on wanting Jane to just be happy I don’t care how it happens. That’s how invested I got in this story. However it happens just let her be finally happy.

Took me a long time to begin reading this trilogy, for some reason I keep putting it off. I guess it was the sound of a three part series but I'm glad I started to read it since it is amazing. The characters were hard to get use to at first, most of the time I am just hating certain characters that I felt I wasn't reading properly. But once I settled in I was with characters on their journey, crying and laughing all the way. The main character is so relatable which drew me in more than I realised, I couldn't put the book down. It is so thrilling and full of cliff hangers which makes me excited for the next book.

I loved this book so much! I'm looking forward to reading books 2 and 3. In the beginning the author gives a warning about possible triggers, which is pretty typical stuff but as I read on into the chapters my heart was wrenched out of my chest and the tears nonstop. So a warning for any parent with a young child with autism (that's myself included) who understands the terror of not knowing what the future might look like for them should something ever happen to you, this book will bring all those fears to the forefront. Give the book a chance though, just have plenty of Kleenex available!

This book surely took me on a very emotional roller coaster, with plenty of ups and downs.
Everything is described in a very vivid detail.
I connected so much with not just one but all the characters. At one point, it will get hard to choose one character over another, because the story is woven that way. I couldn't bring myself to choose. But when in doubt, always go with the female protagonist. Jane is a very strong woman who has bad days and good days and some very bad days like everybody does and she doesn't have her life together all the time. She gives up, tries again and all the male protagonist are also there with her to support her. She is a character, I can relate to.
It was a beautiful read and you can read this book again and again and always find something new, some detail you overlooked and in the end, you'll be amazed.

Excellent story. I couldn’t put it down. So many layers and amazing characters with real depth. Jane is a hero that has gone through so much and constantly faces her fears, insecurities, issues. She is real but strong.
David and Death are amazing guys and just what she needs. Jason is a total douche and I had been hoping got his end but alas no.

Lots of excellent support characters. Total twists on Arthur and his knights, the Greek gods etc.

Such a great story, can’t wait to see what happens next.
