Jaeger needs blood. Half Vector, half human, newly coming of age, he is now drawn to human blood for the first time in his already long life. About the Author

JennaKay Francis has been writing since she was 12 years old. She has written in many different genres - science fiction, childrens, mainstream, poetry - but truly found her voice and love in fantasy. She writes fantasy adventure, fantasy romance, dark fantasy and children's picture books. Her first official publication was a children's poem that was the Grand Prize winner in a contest sponsored by Half-Price Books. Her prize was a $500.00 gift certificate at Half Price Books: something she took great delight in spending. She has been published in several local newsletters, several print magazines, as well as numerous online magazines in both fiction and non-fiction. Jenna lives in the beautiful Pacific Northwest with her husband, their three delightful children, two wild cats, a chihuahua that thinks he's really a dog, one rat, one anole and a several tanks of tropical fish, frogs and newts. JennaKay Francis has been writing since she was 12 years old. Jenna majored in English, with an emphasis on Creative Writing. She has attended dozens of writers' conferences, and taken part in numerous critique groups. She won the Dream Realm Award for Young Adult with her entry THE TRISKELION, and was a finalist with FREE SPIRIT, SORCERER'S POOL, and THE DRAGONS OF MERE ODAIN. She was a finalist in the prestigious Pacific Northwest Writers Conference for Children's Picture Books with INSIDE A SNAIL'S SHELL, and a finalist in the EPIC conference for the same title. In addition, she was the grand prize winner in a contest sponsored by Half Price Books. She has been an editor for four online magazines, as well as doing acquisitions for a small electronic press. She is the senior editor at Writers Exchange Epublishing and edits select books for them.

Quite interesting in its approach to keeping blood flowing but helping others in the process. There is a certain sweetness in the style of writing but I felt something was missing that kept this pretty ordinary. The characters lack lustre, lack something but I am thinking about Book 2 just to see where it all leads.

Half-breed Jaeger has always rejected his vampire/vector heritage, refusing to feed on humans. But his passage into adulthood overrides his restraint, forcing Jaeger to sate his hunger. He has spent most of life fleeing those who hunt his kind. He depends upon illusion for safety, but he meets a woman who senses the truth of his existence and desires him.
Bleeders build too much iron in the system: a potentially fatal condition. Rhiannon believes that if she can form a relationship with a Vector, both will benefit. While Celd wants her, however, Rhiannon prefers Jaeger. Celd feeds from humans, using them and discarding them at will, while she senses the good in Jaeger, promising him a new life for both of them.
Celd is one of the Chosen, his father one of the Sovereign's closest aids. He has the right to select a human to make her a hostess for his child since vector females do not bear children. Celd wishes to completely possess Rhiannon, taking her mind body and soul. Her body would feed him even as her witchcraft would increase his strength and power.
As a long time fan of JennaKay Francis, I have high expectations of this prolific author, and with A GIFT OF BLOOD those expectation of been exceeded. Taking up the challenge of a fellow author, Francis pens a vampire romance that combines her classic touch with an original approach. The result is a surprising fresh and spellbinding tale readers will not be able to put down. In addition, Francis once again proves her ability to challenge her characters' sexual identity and to push them to the edge of possibility, yet they remain remarkably sympathetic and believable. A symbiotic relationship between Vectors and Bleeders makes a fabulous premise for this new series, and readers will be eager for the next installment. A GIFT OF BLOOD earns the WordWeaving Award for Excellence.
