Gift of Restitution: A Story for Christmas Kindle Edition
A year later, one aspect of their escape still plagues Luke’s conscience. Even though he made a point to take only what was owed him, and he left sufficient funds to cover the cost of anything he took from others without the owners’ knowledge or consent, there had been one exception. He hated short-changing the owner, but Loi, now known by Joy, had been his first priority.
Joy, grateful she has been restored to the way of decency, senses that Luke needs his own restoration. Can she convince him to do what he must to enjoy peace at Christmas?

- Reviewed in the United States on February 20, 2025An awe-inspiring, beautiful western historical! The plot is fast paced as it twists and turns. The characters are superb as multiple nationalities are portrayed. ENJOY!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 28, 2021This story checks every need for a great read! Abbott has a great plot and deftly fills in any needed background info a newbie needs to understand the character. She is very good remaining in historical and cultural context. As an illustrative artist, I can attest to the statement, "Research shows."
The story is a good one. A person in need was saved, but being only human, this savior needed redemption himself. Now, this is the part many believers forget or don't know, forgiveness from true repentance stirs the need to restore a wrong. And, just when Joy thinks she needs her husband, he's not there! This story mentions the dark side of mankind, exposing his sinful nature, but it also mentions the spirit of forgiveness that is extended to those in need, reflecting the forgiveness shown to mankind at Christmas time by God Almighty. Scripture and doctrine are mentioned as part of the story and only those hostile to the Word would object to this. I truly believe Zina did a wonderful job bringing us a beautiful, wholesome and needed story and I highly recommend this work.
PS Loved the mother-in-law. Would love to see her on page more. I better check more from this author.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 11, 2021A sweet story that encompasses the true meaning of Christmas Joy. If you read Escape from Gold Mountain you will remember Luke and Ling Loi, or Joy, who made a long journey.
Joy is close to time to give birth and she and Luke are living with his mother in Minnesota. But he has a lot on his mind, worrying about a horse he "borrowed" when they left California. Although he had left money to pay for Caldwell (what he named the horse), he could feel the horse missed his owner and he felt in his heart he needed to return him.
Zina Abbott creates a wonderful story of the heart, which is much more than a journey to return a horse and restitution, but finding out what really matters as the Christmas season shows us all.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 26, 2020This is A good story about love and family and faith in God regardless of nationality and This is a Continuation story about Like and Joy
- Reviewed in the United States on November 16, 2020Another beautiful story. I am always taken away by Zina Abbott's stories. The research going into these stories is incredible. It is like a slice of History that takes me on an adventure each time I read her stories. The plots and characters are woven so well and make you thirst for more! Ling Loi, now known as Joy enjoys living in the Ojibwa village on the Reservation in Minnesota, and has come to honor Odette, Luke McDaniels Mother. Faced with the impending birth of their first child Joy knows Luke needs to return to California to return the horse he purchased to bring Joy and himself to Minnesota. The horse longs for his former master. Luke needs closure. Will she be able to convince him to leave when she is heavy with Child? Can he do this before the baby arrives? He must, but he goes with trepidation. Joy and Luke will welcome and treasure their new child! Born at a time when the world honors Christ and his birth. A Beautiful Christmas read.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 16, 2020This is an absolute beautiful Christmas story of love, forgiveness, restitution, and peace across three cultures: Caucasian, Native American, and Chinese. This well researched story has strongly developed characters and a plot that is easy to get lost in. Luke McDaniels, half Ojibwa, and his Chinese wife, Joy (Ling Loi), have returned to the reservation in Minnesota. The couple, expecting their first child, isseeking sanctuary from the past and living with Luke's mother, Odette. Unfortunately, life is not totally blissful. The problem centers around a horse Luke must return to California to bring closure. What happens while he is gone involves Christian faith and a newborn babe. I highly reccomend this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 16, 2020Once again this author has brought together a wonderfully crafted story full of great characters and that brings about and demonstrates the true meaning of Christmas. This is the story of Ling Loi (now known as Joy) and Luke and it is full of history, rescue, restitution, closure, a baby and love. Will Joy and Luke's relationship development into a HEA.
