Fighting for love, honor, and freedom on the galaxy's lawless outer rim...

When Earth space marine Harper Adams finds herself abducted by alien slavers off a space station, her life turns into a battle for survival. Dumped into an arena on a desert planet on the outer rim, she finds herself face to face with a big, tattooed alien gladiator...the champion of the Kor Magna Arena.

A former prince abandoned to the arena as a teen, Raiden Tiago has long ago earned his freedom. Now he rules the arena, but he doesn't fight for the glory, but instead for his own dark purpose--revenge against the Thraxian aliens who destroyed his planet. Then his existence is rocked by one small, fierce female fighter from an unknown planet called Earth.

Harper is determined to find a way home, but when she spots her best friend in the arena--a slave of the evil Thraxian aliens--she'll do anything to save her friend...even join forces with the tough, alpha male who sets her body on fire. But as Harper and Raiden step foot onto the blood-soaked sands of the arena, Harper worries that Raiden has his own dangerous agenda...

4-stars: 'Gladiator' by Anna Hackett
I decided to read Gladiator by Anna Hackett for the Alien Avenue block for the Romanceopoly Challenge, and I’m glad I did because I found a new author and series to add to my auto-buy list. First off, I haven’t read much Science Fiction Romance, but I’m going to remedy that by reading more of it in 2020. (Not this year since I already have a mass pile of books to read this year.) I enjoyed Gladiator by Anna Hackett because it reminded me of Star Wars and Gladiator. Star Wars + Gladiator = Action-packed Science Fiction Romance that will have you on the edge of your seat and needing a cold shower. The female protagonist Harper Adams is a human who has been abducted and sold by Alien Slavers. The Alien that ends up buying her is Galen, and his slaves are Gladiators. He forces her to become one, but that’s no issue for her since she proved herself in the beginning that she can fight and is not a female to mess with due to her attitude and strength. His gladiators though are not enslaved, and she comes across a very sexy, strong alien gladiator named Raiden Tiago. He’s a former prince for his planet that was destroyed by Thraxian aliens. He wants to avenge his family and planet from what happens to them, which is why he’s one of the mighty Gladiators for House of Galen. He gets a chance to take his revenge out on Thraxian aliens. He meets Harper, and she shows him that revenge is not always the answer. He ends up helping her when she finds out one of her friends is a slave for the Thraxian aliens. Both Harper and Raiden may be from different planets, but they’re perfect for each other. Harper changes Raiden in the book, but not at first. He’s a stubborn, sexy, alpha alien who usually gets his way with other females. Harper doesn’t make it easy for him because she doesn’t want to be another female he has been within his life. I loved the story that Anna Hackett created for Gladiator, and I loved the steaminess in the book too. Yes, there was some serious steaminess between Harper and Raiden. I loved how she reacted to Raiden when she first saw him not wearing anything. I also loved how Raiden responded to how Harper was in bed with him. It was steamy even for him. 🙂 If you are a fan of Sci-Fi Romance, then I would recommend this book. I’m going to check out the rest of the series because I want to know who each Gladiator hooks up within their books. I’m glad I found a new author and thanks to Romanceopoly for given me the chance to find Anna Beckett. Story Rating: 4-star rating Steaminess Rating: 4-star rating Standalone or part of series: Part of series, but each follows a new couple. Do I recommend this book? Yes. Will I read other books from the author? Yes. Tropes/Elements: Action-packed (Gladiator fighting); Aliens Hero: Alien; Gladiator; Alpha; Sexy Heroine: Human; Kick-Butt; Forced into being a Gladiator

I have now read 3 of Anna Hackett's books in the gladiator series, and I can honestly say that she is now one of my favorite Sci Fi Romance authors.

My pattern seems to be that I love her writing, the plot, characters, and love scenes, but there is always at least one thing about the book that slightly jars. Here it's an Earth girl fighting 7 foot gladiators in the arena. I love how Harper is a tough character, with such inner strength that she survives her kidnapping and captivity with her spirit intact. The scene where she bravely goes after Regan in space had me on the edge of my seat. The pace of all the hight points of the plot had me burning through this book. But it's one of my pet peeves where Hollywood makes slim women able to block the sword or ax thrust of hulking men. That's not physically possible because our species has sexual dimorphism. Our two genders are built differently, and this is even more apparent because humans are a small species, galactically speaking. A female could absolutely be quicker and more agile than a 7 foot tall man. Martial arts allows a woman to throw a man, avoid hits, and land blows of her own. But a female, or anyone for that matter, can not block a blow directly from someone whose bicep is larger than the size of her thigh. That would be like me catching a kick from one of my draft horses (who would never kick me on purpose, the sweet things), and holding it with my hand. I'm not stronger than a draft horse. A kick from one of them would send me flying across the barn. When my husband holds one of their hooves while trimming, and he jerks his hoof because of a fly, then my husband goes flying or gets lifted off the ground. There's no overpowering them. And so when Harper merely crosses her slim arm and blocks the downward blow with all the strength behind her opponent's 7 foot tall frame, I go from being lost in the story to suddenly back in bed, in the middle of the night because I couldn't put the book down, thinking, what??? A little female is not stronger than a man more than twice her size. That's just biology. At first I thought it was because our gravity was a bit stronger, so maybe she was actually stronger than the gladiators. But no. Although that likely contributed to her enhanced leaping capability, she is described as much weaker than the gladiators. And all the other women are so much weaker than the gladiators as to be no comparison whatsoever. So, note to Hollywood and authors everywhere, please stop making a female as strong as a 7 foot tall male. It jerks you out of the story with disbelief. And it's not as cool, either, as a female knowing she would get creamed if a blow hit her, rolling out of the way and dodging blows, winning through cunning and agility over strength. Throwing stars, a whip, a bow, a net, any sort of weapon that would put her out of their reach makes so much more sense. Short swords brings her within reach. Also, as I've noted in other reviews, gladiators fighting with edged weapons would leave heads, hands, and legs strewn about the arena. There would not be picturesque scratches across the chest. It would be death matches. In Medieval times, there were often fatalities in the melee, and they fought with blunted weapons just for show.

Also, she barely touches on the destruction of Raiden's world. How did the other rulers of the other planets react to mercenaries blowing up an entire planet and all its resources? You would think that all of the other worlds in the known universe would see that as a threat, and that the Thraxians and anyone else involved would be destroyed. But there appears to have been no reaction at all. It's just no big deal, see you at the Vegas style arena. He went directly from the destruction of his world as a teenager to the arena. There was no galaxy wide civil war. Do planets have no alliances? No laws? Killing the Thraxians and the other planet's rulers who hired them would not have been just a personal mission of vengeance, but a means to prevent them from moving on to the next planet and achieving domination of the known universe. Realistically, the Thraxians would be the most feared species in the universe, because they just destroyed an entire planet for hire. They could have demanded fealty and tribute from every other planet known or else suffer the same fate.

Anyway, aside from that, this book so far has been the most exciting of the ones that I've read, (1, 2, & 6). The chemistry, writing, plot, pacing, and environment were all excellent.

We are introduced to a few of the women that will be in the following stories. There is one clear set of villains so far. Our first heroes have been introduced also. It’s clear where the fighting females will it in this world. The next book should show us what role the nerds will play in the arena.

5.0 out of 5 stars Galactic Gladiators: A superb new series.
Reviewed in Canada on October 28, 2016
Galactic Gladiators is a new series by Anna Hackett. Ms. Hackett has described this new series as "...the Colosseum of Ancient Rome with a touch of professional sports and a side of Las Vegas glitz and temptation.". I would agree wholeheartedly with her description. Ms. Hackett once again shows how brilliantly she is able to create a new world with all of its accompanying characters and environment. She uses her superb writing skills to paint a vivid picture of this new world ensuring that her readers are quickly able to visualize the context in which the story is taking place.

Kor Magna is the arena in which the gladiators fight, and it is here that Harper Adams finds herself after being kidnapped from Earth's space station by Thraxian aliens, who then sold her to one of the gladiator houses on the planet Carthago. The champion gladiator of the House of Galen is Raiden Tiago, a large, make you gasp sexy, tattooed alpha male, who feels an immediate "pull" to Harper as soon as their eyes meet. This attraction is not one-sided as Harper feels the same "pull". The chemistry between Harper and Raiden is electric and when they finally get together, it is passionate, intense and so steamy that you (the reader) may need a cold shower! Lol.

Ms. Hackett has written a wonderful, fast paced book that is difficult to put down once you've started reading it. The book is filled with big strapping gladiators, tons of action, suspense and danger (both in and out of the arena), scary looking aliens and a lot of heat between Harper and Raiden. I have enjoyed reading many of Ms. Hackett's books and I am happy to add this one to the list. I'm especially pleased that there are several interesting secondary characters, suggesting that the Galactic Gladiators series will have many more books in the future. I can't wait to read the next one!

I am a massive fan of Anna's books. Each one has a new dynamic, weither it's fierce hero's and heroines or nerdy sexy geeks getting their freak on lol. Each book is unique, fun, fiesty and hot.

This first book in the Gladiators series sets the world up perfectly we meet alot of pivotal characters and start to build back stories for each. Raiden was a Prince of a destroyed planet turned gladiator hell bent on vengeance until Harper turns his nicely structured reality upside down. Together they are a force to be reckoned with, they bring out the best and worst in each other. Its so fun to read.

Never thought I'd enjoy reading a gladiator - style - alien book but this one hooked me in from the start!
I loved how the story starts off with Harper doing her job until the bad Thraxians come in and kidnap her and her fellow earthlings.
There we see Harper's strength displayed through her strong will to survive, ability to stay focused and her mad fighting skills. She is sold into slavery and has to survive in the arena.
There we meet Raiden who is emotionally closed off from everything except his need to destroy the House of Thrax.
Both characters are intrigued by the other but also focused on surviving. I like the way Anna has slowly built up the relationship between these two starting from intrigue to admiration to respect to something more than explosive 💜
One of the lines I liked was 'nothing is ever what it seems'.
Which rings true throughout the story.
If you like action, mad fighting skills, strong characters including great supporting characters, aliens all woven into one story, then this is the one for you, well worth it.
