About the author

Max is a published author of varying genres including historicals, a contemporary thriller, and a western.
He has lived all over the world, from Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia to Townsville, Queensland, Australia; from Gerrard’s Cross in England to Kingston, Jamaica; from Düsseldorf in Germany to Wellington, New Zealand; from Antwerp in Belgium to Collinsville, Illinois, USA.
Max has a Master’s degree, with Honours, in Plant Physiology, and has worked as a university lecturer and demonstrator, a research scientist, a school teacher, a technician, a quotes officer for a microscopy supply house, an assistant manager at Walmart and Max has even caught bumblebees for a living.
Max's main occupation these days is as an author. Having always had a great love of history and recently discovering writing, it made perfect sense combining the two, writing historical fiction – from ancient Egypt to World War II – but he is not limited to that genre. He has also tried his hand at horror, paranormal and westerns, and has plans to write fantasy and science fiction.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 7, 2014Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI was intrigued by this book set around the Glass House Mountains in Australia and can’t imagine where it will lead in the other books in the series, which I am anxiously awaiting to become available. I am not a believer in the paranormal and have read very little on the subject but will always keep an open mind when reading about most subjects. As I had already read Max Overton’s historicals with his meticulous research and descriptions I thought I had nothing to lose, and could only become a little more educated about Australian mythology by reading this story. Indeed I did, and with his usual style and flare I was transported to Australia and immersed in an intriguing tale. Another must read by Max Overton.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 20, 2016Format: KindleVerified Purchasevery interesting, got me to read more about the aborigines and about Australia in general. Did end somewhat abruptly, but I guess that was to make you rush to the 2nd book!!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 7, 2011The Glass house was interesting and definately gave the reader much to think about. This did not appeal to me but those in search of Big foot and other world wide myths might find this to their liking.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 2, 2001If you have a hankering to travel to the land down under, this is the novel that will transport you there. Beautiful vivid descriptions, scenery that will take your breath away, characters that live and suspense that makes you shudder. Australian mythology abounds here. This book will appeal to romantics, adventurers, sci fi and mystery lovers alike. I can't recommend it highly enough.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 25, 2002In GLASS HOUSE, the first book of a trilogy, Ariana Overton once again weaves a fascinating tale of complexity and imagination. Confronting our cultural myths as well as scientific theory, GLASS HOUSE deftly challenges the fine line between imagination and reality.
Drawing a bit from her own background, Ariana's American heroine Samantha Louis (Sam) and Australian hero James Hay are brought together by a remarkable discovery -- a black obelisk, made of such dense material as to defy a diamond bit. This find provides the opportunity for scientific study.
As the Aborigine Elders gather -- in defiance of politics and their own security -- to honor Dreamtime and the Ancient Ones at the scientific site, the obelisk is shattered and new possibilities for the human race begin.
The quest for answers regarding the destroyed obelisk brings together Sam, James, and a half dozen others. They head toward GLASS HOUSE, a mountain in remote Australia accessible only by hiking through a dangerous and almost inaccessible land. Along the way, they meet with both the face of death and the birth of salvation for the human race.
GLASS HOUSE draws from science and myth, including Neanderthals, Yowies (similar to Bigfoot), UFOs, Bunyips (similar to the Loch Ness monster), and the mythology of the Aborigine. Such disparate subjects become a kaleidoscope of elements that resolve themselves into a remarkable pattern that leaves the reader wondering at the simplicity of the explanation for most mythologies. My hat is off to this remarkable author and this remarkable book. If you've an appetite for the paranormal or mythological beasts, GLASS HOUSE is a great read.
