I found this book a really excellent step by step guide for professionals seeking to develop expert status. While it contains very good advice for strategic planning, it also provides very specific useful tactical tips on exactly how to go about things like networking and blogging in a very targeted way. (I mention these specifically as I find that they can often be ineffective time wasters if done without clearly focused objectives.)

I found the sections on publishing and speaking particularly interesting as the authors have obviously done it successfully and they share their practical experience openly and generously.

This book provides a blueprint for practice and personal development for professionals. The trick (as always) is likely to be in the implementation of the very many good ideas contained in it.

Having read the book from cover to cover and now about to reread it my key takeaway was the reinforcement of defining and promoting a niche. Becoming a Go To Expert in a specialist field. I knew I should do it but just not got round to it. It is now a priority of mine, something I shall focus on over the next few months. The book is an education in itself with many practical examples based on real life professionals. It is a must for any one in a professional career that wants to get ahead.

This is a very good, easy to read, practical guide on how to help build your profile in professional services. Very little practical training on business development is given at many private practice law firms and so this would be an excellent start for any lawyer. I came away from reading the book reassured that some of the steps I have been taking in terms of marketing and BD are consistent with good practice and also with some ideas for improvements in various areas. Will definitely be referring back from time to time!

I found the Go to Expert a good read. Packed full of useful tips and more importantly case studies. A hidden bonus is the free accompanying workbook which gives more exercises (and food for thought!) to work through making it more relevant to my business. Jane Wintringham
