Goblin Summoner: A Deckbuilding LitRPG Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 872 ratings

Life and death decided by the draw of a card!

When an accident claims his life, Gareth finds himself reborn on Acamida. Dropped into a world where sorcerers draw magical power from a deck of cards, summoning monsters and flinging spells, Gareth must adapt to having arcane power at his fingertips. It’s just a shame he’s found himself with the weakest cards around—goblins!

Joined by a fallen goddess, a deposed demon king and surly local, Gareth sets out into Acamida. In a realm where experience points and levels are very real, Gareth must grow stronger if he intends to have his second life last longer than his first. With monsters around every corner and dungeons beneath his feet, Acamida is a dangerous place.

As Gareth finds new cards and grows in power, the rumbles of war stir in the west. If he’s going to survive Gareth will need to master his deck and find the strength hidden within his goblin allies.

What a great book. After realizing that I loved books based around deckbuilding litRPG's. I'm now actively loading up and reading everyone one of 'em. This book didn't disappoint!!! It was absodamnlutely AwesomeSauce!
What happens when a human Gareth, a Goddess, a Demon Lord and a Wyrmkin step into a tavern? Believe you me, it's not the start of a bad joke, but the beginnings of the adventuring team that's gonna shake the world of Acamida! And what happens when Gareth is Isekaied from earth to Acamida because of a Goddess' pity. So grab this action-driven audiobook and enjoy watching Gareth draw a goblin deck and start leveling up.
Ohhhh and yeah, Graham Mack is definitely a great voice actor inspite of his British accent. 😆

If you've ever played MTG you may have wondered what it would be like to be a planeswalker. Well the MC Gareth gets to find out, saddled with a "bad" goblin deck he uses his tcg knowledge to good effect.

As per most litrpgs it needed a fine tooth comb for editing with multiple mistakes, and the story feels a bit one dimensional, almost light novel-esque.

I was very hesitant to get this book. The idea of a story based on the hero slowly building a deck of magical cards he would use to battle was one I couldn't figure out as interesting.

And yet, this tale manages to be magical. The four main characters have a fun series of interactions. They both compliment and contrast each other thanks to some talented writing. I did not entirely love the characters. I saw a slight lack of depth of character that was disappointing.

But the story manages to have a great flow and builds on its elements to a surprisingly satisfying ending. This story did impress me.

I’ve never read a litrpg that captures anime so well. If you love anime, you will enjoy this book. The characters, setting, and banter are just like an anime. It’s basically an Isekai, and thank god there are no harem elements at all because I hate that.

Basically, it’s about a man’s journey whose reincarnation wasn’t meant to happen. He isn’t the hero for this world and his goddess companion won’t stop telling him that. However, he is trying his best to be that hero just to spite that fact. Typical pure good heroes can be boring or frustrating, but he is a likeable character. I don’t want to spoil anything, but the characters, much like in anime, are entertaining. The magic system of deck building and cards is really cool and exciting to see what other deck affinities and cards are out there (much like a shounen anime). It’s a great isekai! Read it!

Usually when I don't finish a book it gets 1-2 stars, but this one wasn't bad, just not interesting to me. The characters were blah, the story was blah, and the magic system was really blah.
Additionally the author really likes the word 'whilst', in my life I don't think that I have ever heard anyone say whilst non-ironically. Tom out

The only problem I have with this book is how the Author assigns the HP, one or two HP is preferable to regular cards battle but here the author like to mix in RTS elements which kinda doesn’t make sense bc the monsters (at least the cheap ones) can only take 1 hit?

I've never read litrpg before but the deck building aspect was enough temptation as I'm a big card game fan. This was really quite fun. The combat is interesting and the characters likeable. Well written action. If you've never read litrpg before don't be afraid to try this one.

I've been in a LitRPG kick for a while, tearing through whatever I find available on kindle unlimited, and let me tell you, this one is a winner. Straying away from the more classical/obvious aspects of RPG magic systems, Goblin Summoner managed to make a functional and interesting magic system out of deck building and card game mechanics, without neglecting the characters in the slightest. And not to spoil anything, but the large scale battle at the end... simply great. Highly recommend even to those who might not have much experience with MTG, Hearthstone, LoR or the likes.

5.0 out of 5 stars A unique system among litrpg

Quite an enjoyable read, the world uses a deck system for its magic and its pretty well done, if you've played mtg or other card games it will be simpler to understand but even if you haven't its laid out pretty well.
Features a well thought and fleshed out mc and companions, no overbearing plot or romance shoved down your throat every 3 sentences which I find is a problem with newer authors
Well paced, not rushed or too slow but keeps a steady progression, there are some parts where it seems the author wanted to get into the mechanics more but held himself back so it's not a super crunchy book.

Overall it's a good and refreshing read that I would recommend if your a fan of card games or need something new to read that's different than what most of the genre is full of right now, definitely worth it
Now I'm off to read the second book

Absolutely loved this book, cannot wait for the next one. Great characters, worldbuilding & the magic system is just amazing. I've been looking for a book like this for ages where people fight with magic cards, only other one I've found us 'The Alchemist'. Only problem was a few grammar mistakes but other than that was just brilliant.
