“For anyone who likes escapism in a book, this is the one for you, Shirley Valentine has nothing on this charming , funny, thought provoking book. Would appeal to all ages and hopefully those put upon, belittled and intimidated wives out there can find a way out of their sad lives.” Rozzy 23
“I highly suggest this novella for anyone who wants a little inspiration. Following Linda on her journey made me feel like I’m capable of doing it myself if I ever need to. I laughed with her, I cried with her, and I felt like I should reflect on my own life with her. It was a very touching read, and it isn’t long at all. It’ll fly by, but it’s worth every second.” Alex
When Linda’s best friend pointed out to her how she’d changed over the years she realized with horror how much her now deceased husband, Martin, had influenced and controlled her choices in life. She had been a possession rather than a person. Her wardrobe and hair style were not how she preferred and somehow had allowed him to change her into a ‘mini me’ version of his interfering mother. The woman who was still being the overpowering and controlling in law.
After Linda’s wakeup call, she has a meaningful one-sided conversation with her husband’s ashes, which are placed in a prominent position on the dining room table. There were definitely going to be some changes in her life and one of them is to deal with this constant daily reminder of his power and she planned to scatter his ashes in the sea.
In an attempt to rediscover the real Linda, and not content with the English Channel for her task, the first thing on her to-do list is a trip to Fiji. There, she not only finds that losing one’s self is a lot easier than finding yourself, but also the chance of new love.
Losing one’s self is easier than finding yourself.
As in all of Allyson’s stories you will find funny, but well developed characters with a down to earth realism.
“The story is not just about romance but of finding yourself in the murkiness of your own life. It is not easy to break old habits. The author does an excellent job of writing Linda's struggles as she transforms into a new person. I'm glad the author slowly developed Linda's many stages of grief. She goes through anger, guilt, denial and a sense of loss in a mature way. The emotions were raw and exposed a side that many of us go through when facing new challenges. The book is a short read, but it is packed with laughter, tears and gives the readers a look at life and what their purpose may be.” Deanna
“If you are a fan of Jan Moran books then you will love this funny and endearing story by Allyson R Abbott. Following the tale of Linda who realising with the help of her best friend, that actually she is not the grieving widow, but now is able to enjoy her life free from her bullying husband. A must read.” Betty

Review
I loved Goodbye, Hello by Allyson R. Abbott. Allyson took the element of human nature and interpersonal relationships and gave a face to it. There are many people who feel trapped in their marriages and feel that there is no way out. I loved how Allyson developed and told the story because she also indirectly provided a solution. In the story it says that you can live again - just take a chance and give it a try. This is not an isolated incident; both men and women suffer in this area and can relate to this story. I encourage both men and women to embrace their truth and pick up a copy of Goodbye, Hello by Allyson R. Abbott today!

About the author

#1 Bestselling and Award Winning British Author (fiction and non-fiction)
A Blooming Boomer who loves life on the road, making new friends and meeting great people. Life in the slow lane!
After a few full-on years of travelling, which included a year and a half checking out New Zealand, a few Pacific islands, Australia and South Africa, 15months driving around the USA in a motorhome, some quick few weeks visit to Canada, Mexico, Cuba and Spain, we have now decided to pull over onto the hard shoulder for a year and have settled on the Valencian Province in Spain.
One of the most common questions I get asked is, which country or place did you like the most? A very difficult question to answer as each country or state for that matter, has something to offer. I loved New Zealand for its beauty and the friendliness of its people, South Africa for its richness of colour and history, and in the USA Montana and Arizona for their scenery, Florida for its beaches, Louisiana for its diversity, but I could go on for ever.
My writing career started half way around the USA, when I realised for the first time in my life I had time on my hand to write a book. I hope to use some of my experiences within my books; you will find a bit of Fiji in Goodbye, Hello and I am now planning a book three in the Abby and Ed Series to send them on adventures to visit the same places.
I can’t help but add humour, because we laugh in life and I try to make my books about people who we can all relate to. I do hope you enjoy them.
Enjoying life while I can, best regards Allyson.

This is my second book by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I think what I enjoyed most was that Linda was not a 25 year old drop dead gorgeous main character, and it's not too often that that happens and I found I could relate to her in so many ways, Linda is real and someone you could be shopping in the same grocery store with everyday.
The flow of this story moved along nicely and this author has a style about her writing that I can only explain with words like smooth, and easy. The words just flow together forming the best story and before you know it you're done.
I loved the storyline, it felt real..the struggles are easy to imagine and Fiona (Linda's best friend) played a huge part in how this story progressed, I loved her, and the conversations that Linda had with Martin were sometimes hilarious and sometimes just plain sad. Linda finding herself and realizing that all the choices in her life were now just that, HER choices made this story complete, and her new plans in life and the goals she set for herself and those she loved were all on her and she had finally become strong enough to make them happen. I found myself asking myself if I could fly to Fiji by myself, if that is something I could see myself doing, I'm not sure but reading this story made me think anything is possible.
It didn't end as I thought it would and at first I was shocked, but after thinking about it and taking the whole story into account, I think it ended perfectly. I hope there's more to Linda's story but if there isn't, my thoughts and imagination of how her story progresses are enough. This book gives hope and truth to the words “It's never too late to start again” and I loved it!!

- Reviewed in the United States on September 7, 2015I’ll be honest; I was pleasantly surprised by Goodbye, Hello. It’s a great new coming of age novella that just about anyone can relate to.
I think the themes and plot of this story are the reason I liked it so much. Even though I’m not the same age as Linda, her story is just so relatable. She realizes that she is unhappy with her life and has been for a while. Her deceased husband is still controlling her life, which depresses her and enforces just how unhappy she is. Realizing it’s not too late, she vows to make and follow through with her own plans for her future. Through her journey, she learns who is she actually is, what she stands for, and what she wants her life to be. She doesn’t just wake up a new woman, which shows the struggle that many people go through. Wanting a new life is different from actually creating a new one. Changing takes time for everyone, just as it does for Linda. She’s bitter and grieving, and it takes her some time to let go of her past. The realistic portrayal of human emotions as life goes by really grabbed my attention.
I also really liked this story because the writing was engaging, easy to follow, and filled with humor. I really wanted to see Linda succeed on her journey to self-actualization, and I felt myself empathizing with her because I know what it’s like to question who you are and feel that there must be a greater meaning to everything. The honesty in this novella is very touching and heartfelt and made me feel like I was a part of something greater than myself.
I highly suggest this novella for anyone who wants a little inspiration. Following Linda on her journey made me feel like I’m capable of doing it myself if I ever need to. I laughed with her, I cried with her, and I felt like I should reflect on my own life with her. It was a very touching read, and it isn’t long at all. It’ll fly by, but it’s worth every second.

The story Goodbye, Hello: It's never too late to start again by Allyson R. Abbott is a book about a woman who has begun a journey to find herself. After years of being the person she that someone else wanted her to be she is now determined to be the person she wants to be. I loved the character of Linda. I was sad when reading of how she was manipulated and controlled by another person, however, it was wonderful reading about how she discovered herself and now does things that she could never have before. This includes taking a holiday by herself and finding a surprise that she could never have guessed of when she booked the trip. Linda is learning about being on her own and sometimes finds herself in embarrassing situations. There are secondary characters in this story and I enjoyed reading about how they interact with Linda. The author has created a story that had me hooked from the beginning and I read it all in one sitting. It warmed my heart and I found myself wishing that I could read more about Linda. This is the second book I have read by the author and intend on reading more of her stories.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 20, 2021Goodbye, Hello is a fun short story about a older woman finding herself again. I liked the beginning, with lots of details and a hot reawakening scene. But the part of the story with her lover felt unemotional. The end of the story felt rushed, with her leaving to care for a person that mistreated her and barely a glance at the man she found her way back to herself with. Also the story on my Kindle edition ended on page 136 out of 186 available. The other 50 pages were used for first chapters of other books. I would have not paid for that short of a story, but it was advertised as being 199 printed pages.

4.0 out of 5 stars sweet story from Allyson Abbott
4 Stars
Goodbye, Hello: It’s Never Too Late to Start Again is a really charming, sweet story from Allyson Abbott. It is a story of fresh starts, discovery hope, and embracing life. The story was a quick, easy and absorbing read. Another delightful tale from this polished author.
Linda has come to a point in her life where she realises that she has changed so drastically, shaped and molded by her controlling and verbally abusive husband, into someone she didn’t like very much. Her husband’s death has her re-evaluating things and she knows that she needs to find herself again.
She decides that the best way to do this is by taking a holiday- so it’s off to Fiji for her. This vacation will bring far more than Linda had hoped for, she learns a lot about herself and life in the process. Age need not be a barrier to embracing life. Losing someone doesn’t mean that you also have to stop living, dreaming or aspiring for more.
One of my favourite reads of Ms. Abbott’s, so far!
Thank you, Ms. Abbott!

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for women 'of a certain age'
A pacey page turner. Very believable characters. Amusing with just the right amount of 'spice'. My only criticism is that it is too short!
