Review

I would definitely recommend Granny JJ Adventures volume 3 to everyone. The short stories are based around a strong, clever and witty female character and it's brilliant to see how she solves every mystery. Every story has a valuable lesson and shows we should never loose faith! My favourite story is when she saves the day during the Holi celebration and the ending made me and my children laugh out loud! There is a lack of diversity in children's literature, so we are so happy these Granny JJ books have been created. Congratulations on all the success and we look forward to reading the next book soon. Inderjit Puar, author of Bradley the Bus.Granny JJ lived in a house in Soesdyke and she loved solving mysteries which other people do not bother about. Granny JJ was Christian and she did not take any nonsense from thieves, bandits, and beggars. All thecases she solved had her special signature on it. In The Granny JJ Adventures: Guyana's Daily Detective Vol 3 by Joshua Cartwright andGlenda Cartwright, Granny JJ can be seen solving the case of the brazen Hassa King, the case of the colorful bandits, the wicked laughing Bais, and the trouble at the BBWGA (Big Beautiful Women of Guyana Association). Let's accompany this lady detective and see how she solves the unsolved mysteries in the towns and villages of Guyana with herskill and courage.
The Granny JJ Adventures: Guyana's Daily Detective Vol 3 has been written in everyday Guyanese Creole by Joshua Cartwright and Glenda Cartwright, and it has fun, laughter, mystery, and action that will entertain young readers, especially those who are from the Caribbean and Guyana. The illustrations at the beginning of the stories make GrandmaJJ tangible to readers and will make them love her ways. The stories are all engaging and Granny's special thoughts after each story are interesting. The glossary at the beginning of the book will help readers understand the Guyanese words and enjoy the stories better. It is agood story for parents and tutors to use for storytelling and read-aloud sessions and will introduce children to the culture and language of a new place in an entertaining way. All the stories in this book are appealng and I enjoyed the case of the colorful bandits the most. Granny JJ's adventure series is fast-paced, humorous, and absorbing. Award-winning author Joshua Cartwright started his writing career writing short true-life accounts for Take a Break magazine, the top-selling women’s magazine in Britain. He’s always enjoyed stories, so it now seems natural that he trained as a business-life coach and ran a business for four years, helping people tell themselves better stories.

When the idea for The Granny JJ Adventures came along it was extremely off-beat – an old creole-speaking grandmother who investigates mysteries in Guyana, South America! But he listened to his wife Glenda, and now the book is well-known in Guyanese circles and even the Guyanese Government has bought copies! In September 2021 the book won a finalist award in the Reader's Favorite International book competition, in the mystery category.

He’s a committed Christian, and one day began wondering if he could create stories that helped children 8+ connect to Jesus.

Thus followed – with divine help! – the Jesus and Me series, now having over 65 five star reviews on Amazon; and it's currently being turned into a TV series script.

He’s happily married to Glenda and they have six children. Joshua's latest project is a book on how to develop your innovation skills called Brutal Creativity.

This is the first of this series that I've read, but I enjoyed it. The stories are fun and give an excellent glimpse into Caribbean culture. I found the dialogue a little hard to read (though I have some experience with the Caribbean and Louisiana Creole), but I think that if an adult is reading this aloud, it would help make it more understandable to kids. I love the wise Confucian-like sayings at the end of each story as the lesson Granny wants to leave the reader with.

As a person of Guyanese descent, I enjoy reading the Granny JJ series and sharing the stories with my family. I just spent two years teaching at a primary school in Guyana, and I would read the stories to my host family and students. They loved that it was written in Guyanese creole. Also, the paperback doubles as a coloring book! I look forward to helping Granny JJ solve her next mystery!

A great culture educator. A wonderful way to teach children about other cultures, Guyanese creole accent in this case. Children are eager to learn about life in other parts of the world.

The book has some translation words in the beginning and that was helpful. But after a few pages, I could read the story without looking up the words. Granny is a very bold woman and she is not afraid of anything.
Beating all stereotypes, the lady solves her problems and she does it with an aplomb which was hilarious and fun. The funniest part were Granny's funny thoughts which showed us how the lady thought. Was definitely fun to read it. Liked it
