What a pleasant surprise - Grave Walker and the protagonist, Thomas Blume - a force to be reckoned with. If you enjoy Jack Reacher, Jack Noble, Michael Bennett, John Cory and Jesse McDermitt novels, then don't miss this series. They are all shrewd, well-trained, and get the job done.

Thomas Blume, a former NYPD detective retires to London and become as PI. He is still hunting the killer of his family and finally tracks him back to NYC after a year. His partner is still with the force but there's a stricter captain in charge now and Blume discovers that he'll not be able to cut corners and get information like in the past. The new captain is willing to work with Blume in exchange for him solving a murder, which happens to be his former girlfriend of ten years ago. Through his investigation, Blume crosses paths with the most notorious mobster in NY, who by the way, still has influence outside of prison and arranges a hit contract on Blume. While evading killers, Blume must also protect his former girlfriend's twin sister, who may have some answers to solve this case. But it becomes complex and things are not as they seem. Then discovering his cop friend may be on the take is just one more obstacle that Blume must overcome in finding the killer..

Grave Walker is non-stop from beginning to end. The story is well-written, keeps readers on the edge of their seats, and makes it difficult to put down. I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading the rest of the series. Great job Mr. Reade!

Grave Walker - Thomas Blume Bk 5 - Written by PT Reade

Ex-cop, Thomas Blume returns to New York hot on the trail of the man that killed his family... But when the body of a former girlfriend unexpectedly shows up at police HQ Blume is suddenly thrust into an investigation to find the murderer and stop them killing again. Now, in a race against time, Blume must solve a riddle from his past and battle through a world of cops, criminals, and organized crime… before it’s too late. Who can be trusted and who will survive?

What did I like? Here’s my loveable teddy bear that stills needs everything to be made ok for him. I just love this guy and it is a darn shame how much trouble he seems to get into. Just when he thinks that he thinks he has his past tied up the world explodes on him.

What will you like? Exhilarating action, remarkable characters, gripping twists and turns and unbelievable luck!!! In the next chapter of Thomas Blume's search for an ending to his misery, he is thrown into yet another gripping mystery and murder. With his race, he will take you down this incredible journey to keep you by his side until the last page! New York and its incredible life will come alive with this new battle! This enthralling fifth book in the Thomas Blume mystery series.

PT Reade manages to put words together extremely well and keeps his audience captivated from the first word right through to the last word. I have read all the Thomas Blume books issued by Mr. Reade and none have disappointed me. The books he has written are fast page turners and the suspense builds as you continue to progress through the books. This book is no different. You are wondering what is going to transpire, and when you think you have the answer, he turns the tables on you. My only complaint, though it lends some interest in the main character, is that Thomas Blume is bent on being an alcoholic. Since I don't really drink, this tends to bother me a bit, but it does make the character a bit more real. No one will be disappointed in this book. If you have read any of PT Reade's books, I would suggest you start with the first one so you can get an understanding of the main character and why he is the way he is.

5.0 out of 5 stars Grave Walker. A truly gripping read that all fans of crime thrillers must read!

Grave Walker is the 5th book in the Thomas Blume crime thriller series and a fantastically written one, too!

In this latest serving of Thomas Blumes pursuit of the man who killed his wife and young son, we find him back in New York and, once again, in the thick of it.
Blumes ability to place himself in the wrong place, at the wrong time, continues and before you can say, "Drop your weapons!", he is again staring death in the face as things get really heated.
Reade has his man caught up in a Russian mob family's bitter feud where the very scary Boss, currently doing time in the notorious Rikers Island; a prison which holds the baddest and most dangerous of New York's criminals, and his son in a battle to gain control. The stumbling block is that the son wants to steer things away from the violent "old ways" of his father, and in a cleaner direction of doing legitimate business.
All Blume wants is to get 'alone time' with the man that NYPD have in their cells.
In return for being granted a chat with the killer of his family, Blume must first investigate the apparent suicide of a former girlfriend, in a "you scratch my back..." deal with the new chief. A strong, no nonsense woman that plays by the rule book and isn't swayed by the testosterone-fuelled posturing of her men.

The twists and turns and fast-pace of this book will make your head spin and nothing can prepare you for the twist at the end of this thrilling instalment.

All I can advise, is that you hold onto your hat and try not to pass out from the intensity and heat.

Book six is sure to follow soon; if you can handle it!

PT Reade is a brilliant writer, who truly brings his characters to life in a way that most authors can only dream of.

A good story in need of a few minor tweaks.

    The story (no spoilers):
The hero, Thomas Blume is an hard-drinking American ex-cop with a tragic past. He returns to New York from London to interview the man suspected of killing his wife and son. Being a former cop, he is coerced into helping NYPD Blue investigate the apparent suicide of a former girlfriend. The incarcerated head of the local Russian mob doesn't want him anywhere near the case. Cue lots of action, car chases and shoot-ups.
The story proceeds at a fast pace with loads going on. In general, the author handles the threads well,

    The technical issues:
Minor format changes are needed as the para indents, which are probably acceptable for a ppbk, are far too deep for the smaller kindle screen.
In general, the copy editing and proofreading are okay with no major errors noted apart from above mentioned indents and a few unnecessary additional line spaces, which weren't too annoying.
However, the manuscript is in need of a good line edit. Filtering, passive voice, use of filler words, and over explanations abound. And this did rather spoil my enjoyment. Basically, I didn't really feel as involved in the action as I wanted to, and that was a real shame.

Overall, the author shows promise and I wish him well.

This is the fifth installment of the Thomas Blume saga, the first four take place in the UK. Blume's journalist wife returned to her native land to take a Summer job taking their son with her. They were both murdered and Blume left his job as a New York police detective to travel to the UK to track down the killers. In the first four books he solves several crimes along the way but unfortunately not the murder of his family.
This fifth book sees Blume returning to the US to find that a former girlfriend has been found dead. The story line involves his ex-girlfriend twin sister and a Russian mafia gang boss.
You really need to read the four previous books in order to appreciate the full story but the low price makes it well worth it as they are all very enjoyable reads.
