ATTENTION: If you have been a victim of false advertising, you may be entitled to compensation. If you were ever hired to take care of a fourteen-year-old boy’s knee injury on a luxury ranch in the Middle of Nowhere, Utah, but that fourteen-year-old boy ended up being a tall, rough-and-tumble, muscular, one-hundred-percent all-man cowboy by the name of Rhett Jameson, you may have been put at risk for falling in love. Please seek counsel immediately.

Dear Counselor,

It was supposed to be simple favor for my very important boss, Frank Kaminsky of the Salt Lake Slammers professional basketball team—go to his good friend Tex Jameson’s luxury ranch and provide personal medical care for his recently injured teenage son.

I thought it’d be a working vacation of sorts—a chance for my city-girl self to experience something I would never otherwise do—but everything is upside down, and absolutely
nothing is as I thought it would be.

For one, this patient is
not a teenage boy.
He’s a real-life, blue-eyed, tough-as-nails, thirtysomething cowboy who is so darn strong he looks like he could lift a car just for the heck of it.

He’s also stubborn, rude, and we don’t get along…at all.

Add in the heart-melting vision of him as a single father to the cutest little girl on the planet, and I’ve found myself in a whole different dimension of trouble.

Lust. Feelings. A whole lot of enemies-to-lovers-style complication.

Please help me. My name is Dr. Leah Levee, I am a victim of false advertising, and if I’m not careful, this Grumpy Cowboy might just be the death of me.

    ***5 ‘Team Jojo’ Stars***

After meeting Rhett and Joey in the extended epilogue for Hot Stuff, I was crossing my toes that they’d get their own book, because seriously? Hot cowboy with adorably precocious and sassy daughter? Um, yes, please...and OM this book gave me everything I wanted and then some. It was all kinds of eye rolling, snort laughing fun, filled with great characters and a truly adorable 5 year old that scared and impressed me all at the same time (trust me, you’ll see after reading the book).

Rhett had me torn between swooning while my ovaries exploded and wanting to grab a 2x4 and Gibbs smack him with it ~ mostly in the first half of the book, but still ~ this man. He’s such a good man. He loves his daughter, his family and the ranch, but WOW is he all kinds of stubborn. Leah was a force and when she dug in her heels ~ whether in heels, boots or sneakers ~ she dug them in and didn’t give up. But for as stubborn as she could be, she had a golden heart that just drew you in. And then there is Miss Josephine aka Joey aka Jojo aka the most adorable, impressive yet scary five year old you’ll ever meet. She knows who she is and makes no apologies for it.

Their journey to their HEA was a rocky one ~ in many ways ~ but it was all kinds of fun. Rhett and Leah gave as good as they got and even when they were “enemies” they still had this chemistry that was undeniable. And once they got past the “enemies” thing...well, to say that they were meant to be is an understatement. But there always has to be wrench tossed into the mix, and it was and wasn’t a surprise, but I loved how everything worked out for them in the end.

This was simply a fun read. It has a great balance of all the things I love about a good romcom and then some. The “and then some” includes a great cast of secondary characters from Rhett’s family to the workers on the ranch to Leah’s own friends and family. They all added a lot of goodness to this book and I wouldn’t mind catching up with them at some point in the future.

In my opinion, for an enemies to lovers trope to work well, the author has to find a balance between animosity between the main characters without tipping into meanness or abuse. Max Monroe finds the perfect sweet spot in this book. Rhett Jameson is the heir apparent to his family’s ranch and a single father. He used to be a rodeo star and one stupid decision left him with a broken patella and torn tendon. Dr Leah Levee is an orthopedic surgeon who works for a professional basketball team. She is asked by her boss, who is a friend of Rhett’s father, to spend two months taking care of Rhett post surgery. Of course she’s also told that Rhett is a 14 year old boy and Rhett was unaware his father made any arrangements. There’s definitely chemistry at their initial meeting but that’s not the only reason for Sparks since Rhett does not think he needs help, so challenges are issued and accepted as the only path to compliance. This book has a little bit of everything - sweet moments, heart squeezing encounters, fan your face sexy times, nail biting scares, a sweet 5 year old girl, and laugh out loud scenes. In order to get to their HEA, Rhett and Leah are going to have to let go of what they thought they wanted to embrace what they never imagined finding. The book gave me all the feels - I laughed, cried, swooned, gritted my teeth, and rolled my eyes. Grumpy cowboy is a great stand alone romance.

“If you typed the words “hot cowboy” into Google, I’m pretty sure this guy would be the number one search result.”

“Grumpy Cowboy” is book three in the ‘Single Dad Collection’ from authors Max Monroe. The books are stand-alone stories. If you read the second book in the series including the extended epilogue, you’ll probably remember briefly meeting Utah Cowboy Rhett and his adorable little girl Joey. I was so glad to find them as the focus of this book.

Rhett absolutely adores his precocious daughter. He loves his parents and the family ranch and has no regrets about giving up his successful rodeo career to live on the ranch and raise his child. He’s certainly not perfect though. Rhett is an incredibly stubborn man and resistant to authority. He frequently butts heads with his father about the family ranch and being more responsible. When Rhett gets a serious leg injury while accepting a challenge from his friends, he ignores the medical advice from his doctors and risks permanent, debilitating damage to the function of his leg. Leah is a medical doctor that his father brings to the ranch for the summer to oversee Rhett’s recovery and rehabilitation. She’s a real, stereotypical ‘city girl’ in designer dresses in high heels, but in her own way she’s just as stubborn as Rhett. Also like him, she’s a truly good-hearted person. Some of the chaos that ensues between them on the ranch is hilarious and so creative. As the story develops, Rhett and Leah truly bring out the best in one another. In this book there’s a 3rd lead character … Rhett’s young daughter Joey (short for Josephine) is a sassy gem in sparkles and little cowgirl boots. Her wonderful personality shimmers off the pages.

In addition to the fun in this story, there is quite a lot of serious emotion. It’s nicely balanced so it definitely remains a rom-com, but this story and characters have depth. I must admit that I teared up more than once while reading. The cast of secondary characters further bring it all to life. And Ernie! I fell in love with him and if you read the book, I bet you will, too. After you finish the book and the great epilogue, make sure you get the extended epilogue. I don’t want to reveal anything from that, but prepare to swoon. Put on your real or metaphorical cowboy hat, kick back and prepare for an experience that will warm your heart and heat up your Kindle.

Rhett, Leah and Joey are perfect. You got broody Rhett, caring and determined Leah and the cutest little girl ever, Joey. I really enjoyed this book and didn't want it to end. This had me laughing so hard, especially the collection part. I also read the extended epilouge and am so happy it ended full circle with Garrett, Lauren, Holley and Jake all making an appearance.

A cowboy was on the rodeo circuit and left to help his father with the ranch. A night out leads him to to ride a new rodeo horse, which manages spectacularly but gets into to trouble dismounting and burst the tendons and ligaments around his knee. His father phones a friend and Leah is sent to the ranch. The story and romance begins. A book that can be serious in places but on the whole a really funny book. Good read
