Guarded Hearts (Love in Sienna series book #3) by Laura John can be read as a stand-alone novel so if you grab it and haven't read the rest of the series don't worry you won't be completely lost. The first thing I want to say is a HUGE heartfelt THANK YOU to Laura for caring about her readers and putting a trigger warning in the beginning of the book. Laura even goes above and beyond the normal and actually provides websites and phone numbers to agencies in the United States and Canada that can help with victims of some of the issues discussed in the book. I loved everything about this book, the characters are amazing and the storyline is well thought out. Crystal is such a strong young woman who has been through so much in her life. You can't help but respect the hell out of her and understand her misgivings about relationships. Dustin Maxx is such an amazing character. I was honestly blown away by his maturity and strength of character for a young man especially in the music industry as a performing artist. He is so understanding and patient. Laura John made me a fan for life with this book and I cannot wait to read the rest of her books.

    Laura John has a knack for storytelling. She doesn't start off with flashy gimmicks, dramatics, or silliness. No simply, elegant storytelling that draws you in and keeps you engaged and invested in the characters. The third book in the Love in Sienna series, this story follows Crystal, a single mom to the spunky Olivia. Being a single mom is hard. Becoming a single mom at 17 and thriving is near impossible.
    We met Crystal first in Tia's story. Laura brings back familiar characters into this story, showing us that family is never solely based on heritage or blood, but on the ones who choose you and love you as you are. Crystal and Dustin's story is a slow burn, which is perfection. I love his steadfast confidence in himself and in Crystal. The story has some twists and turns which pulled out all of my emotions. The story is filled with love, loss, frustration, heat and humor. Without spoiling the ending, this story ending had my feelings cup running over. I always enjoy reading Laura's books. I look forward to her next tale from Sienna.

    Honestly, Laura's books never let me down. Pick it up. You will not be disappointed.

    I’ve been looking forward to reading Crystal and Dustin’s story since they first met and became friends in a previous book! I knew Crystal had a difficult home life before Tia found her, but I had no idea how bad it might be! But once again, Laura John has handled distressing topics beautifully without glossing over the pain or lasting impact they leave behind. I try not to give away details in my reviews, but expect an emotional roller coaster ride with a few dramatic twists! I’m honestly emotionally exhausted, because I felt everything the characters felt, and every emotion was in attendance!! Once again, secondary characters steal the scene at times with the witty banter and great dialogue in general! Along with Tia, Mikey, Leah, and Johnny from the first two books, we also have Damon and Shae, who are always good for a laugh, and little Olivia whose relationship with Dustin is priceless. At its core, though, the book is about Crystal and Dustin overcoming obstacles, both internal and external to find a love they were always meant to have. Every woman who reads this book is going to want her very own Dustin!! This is a definite must read!!❤️📚

    I'm a new to Laura John and it won't be my last story!

    Guarded Hearts can be read as a standalone. Please be advice that if you have any triggers, be sure to heed the author warning.

    Laura will give you all the angst with this story. This is a beautiful story and Laura John is able to captivate readers with her writing, bringing so many emotions that will capture your heart from page one.

    Crystal only knew heartbreak and fear growing up; she went through things a child shouldn't go through. Her life change when she has an adorable daughter Olivia. Even with her background, she is determined to become better than her past. Her life change when she encounters Rock Star singer, Dustin.

    From the first encounter sparks fly between these two. The chemistry unique. The best friends ever. Crystal and Olivia become Dustin's two favorite girls. Now Dustin wants more but will Crystal open her heart to the possibility and love?

    Definitely a perfect combination of angst, drama, friendship and funny moments, but ultimately it's above love, self-healing and understanding.

    I loved getting to hear more of Crystal's story and how the relationship with Dustin had so many ups and downs. Definitely didn't see the twist with Dustin coming so that was wild but I love that they got their happy ending

    Crystal and Dustin are by far my favorite couple in this entire series. I normally am not a big fan of friends to lovers romance but I couldn't help but fall in love with their journey. Crystal suffers from a lot of trauma from her childhood and it takes a lot for her to overcome those issues. I am once again amazed at how well Laura John handles these issues in her books.

I have to say I’m a bit jealous of her support system!     I totally forget these are fictional characters and was getting really angry at the parents, how could you do that to your child. I love that the author involves so much emotion in her characters and they prevail and work through there demons

    Crystal should’ve dumped Dustin’s sorry ass He should’ve contacted Crystal first before meeting up with Nina. I find funny how the humiliation towards Crystal was never resolved in the book.
