Her Castilian Heart (The Castilian Saga Book 3) Kindle Edition
At times a common bloodline is something of a curse—or so Robert FitzStephan discovers when he realises his half-brother, Eustace de Lamont, wants to kill him.
A murderous and greedy brother isn’t Robert’s only challenge. He and his wife, Noor, also have to handle their infected relationship with a mightily displeased Queen Eleanor—all because of their mysterious little foundling whom they refuse to abandon or allow the queen to lock away.
Eustace is persistent. When Robert’s life hangs in the balance, it falls to Noor to do whatever it takes to rip them free from the toothy jaws of fate. Noor may be a woman, but weak she is not, and in her chest beats a heart as brave and ferocious as that of a lioness. But will her courage be enough to see them safe?

About the author

Had Anna been allowed to choose, she'd have become a professional time-traveller. No luck there, so instead she became a financial professional with two absorbing interests; history and writing. These days, Anna combines an exciting day-job with a large family and her writing endeavours. Plus she always finds the time to try out new recipes, chase down obscure rose bushes and initiate a home renovation scheme or two.
Anna has authored the acclaimed time travelling series The Graham Saga , set in 17th century Scotland and Maryland, as well as the equally acclaimed medieval series The King’s Greatest Enemy.
Anna has also published The Wanderer, a fast-paced contemporary romantic suspense trilogy with paranormal and time-slip ingredients. Her September 2020 release, His Castilian Hawk is a story of loyalty and love set against the complications of Edward I’s invasion of Wales in the late 13th century.
Her most recent release, The Whirlpools of Time , is a time travel romance set against the backdrop of brewing rebellion in the Scottish highlands.
All of Anna’s books have been awarded the IndieBRAG Medallion, she has several Historical Novel Society Editor’s Choices, and one of her books won the HNS Indie Award in 2015. She is also the proud recipient of several Reader’s Favorite medals as well as having won various Gold, Silver and Bronze Coffee Pot Book Club awards.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 2, 2022Anna Belgrave writes novels to sink you teeth into. They are truly wonderful and have all the things I want in a book. For instance intrigue, fighting, family love and quarrels and very strong characters. This was a long read but sensational.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 5, 2025She's an incredible story teller with a gift for relating history, the story of Robert and noor began 2 books before this one when Robert killed Noors father and brother. Definitely an Interesting start to a love story. Robert is the illegitimate son of a noble who serves the King as a man at arms. A brave man and his brave wife battle enemies and family for a good story.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 6, 2022Definitely a worthy follow up to the first two books in this series. What a wonderful storyteller Anna is! I highly recommend this series, in fact, I recommend all of her books. She brings you into the lives of her characters and you feel as if you are living beside them. Can't wait until 2023 for the next book in this saga. Be sure to read all of her series in order to best follow the the goings on.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 13, 2022I enjoyed "Her Castilian Heart". It is filled with detail and love. I look forward to the next in the series.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 12, 2022One more wonderful book from Ms. Belfrage. I have to make sure I have all my work done before I start reading one of her books as I can't seem to put them down once I've started. Her Castilian Heart was no exception. Robert and Noor feel like old friends and escaping into their world is a welcome reprieve. Thank you Anna for another fantastic book, I'm very much looking forward to the next one.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 29, 2022I have read and enjoyed Mz. Belfrage’s books for some years now and I have found each book to be thoroughly enjoyable. As always, her excellent research manages to depict history vividly! Her characters are always well conceived and believable! I enjoy fact checking and personal research as I read her books. This book series (3 in this series thus far) has taught me about some Spanish history that I had not read about prior to reading these books - a fascinating, confusing and unstable time for Spain - and with such strong connections to England!
I always enjoy the epilogues in Anna Belfrage’s books. They are always packed with non-fictional information about the history involved and the characters who were fashioned around real people- and those who were completely imagined for the book. There is always so much of history to learn about!
Now I must wait until the end of 2023 to read the promised 4th volume in this series.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 15, 2022I love reading about the adventures of Robert and Noor. Their love for one another including their foster child is endless.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intrigue, passion, revenge and triumph - a perfect historical read!
Historical fiction at its best transports the reader into another time and place – the heat, fear and smell of battle, the celebration of a marriage where fire flickers nearby when the bride’s hair is arranged with a spear point, or a voyage across a cold featureless sea where you feared might drop off the edge of the world into oblivion.
Settings may be frightening or fascinating, but all good historical fiction conveys the impression of being an eyewitness to what is happening around them as well as how they are acting in that context. Her Castilian Heart is a perfect example of this.
Amongst the medieval politics, obligations of loyalty, the detail of horses, gowns and coifs, you find people with wants and fears like ours. And this is the secret to Ms Belfrage’s books. Her characters desire peace at home, time to enjoy their marriage and family, to care for their employees and secure their future. But the times of Robert and Noor are unstable; war and rebellion surround them whether in England, Wales or France. Throw in an aggressive and deeply jealous half-brother whose wish to destroy Robert has completely taken over his purpose and motivation in life and you have a level of tension that is both delightful and frightening for the reader.
Ms Belfrage draws and handles her cast of characters with a deft hand to the extent that each is imprinted on you without the least hint of confusion. They can be passionate, stubborn, despairing, caring and courageous as they meet challenges and enjoy triumphs. Their interactions with recorded historical figures are seamless and authentic – a real pleasure. A highly recommended read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fabulous series!
Her Castilian Heart is the third instalment in this fabulous series of historical romance and adventure, featuring Sir Robert FitzStephan and his fiery wife Noor. The couple are now back in England, having endured trials and tribulations in Spain in the previous book, and the reader hopes that they will finally have some peace and quiet. Unfortunately, that is not possible as long as Robert’s evil half-brother Eustace is alive. He bears a bitter grudge and is consumed by greed and jealousy of his more capable, well-liked and respected sibling. And he will let nothing stand in the way of complete annihilation of Robert and everything he holds dear. There is also a vengeful queen plotting in the background, so to say that the couple have their hands full is an understatement! But they have loyal friends and allies – and make some surprising new ones along the way – and they are both strong and able to fight for what is right and those they love. Therefore, there is a chance that good will triumph over evil. I enjoyed every twist and turn of this story, and of course rooted for Robert and Noor, hoping they would finally be allowed to enjoy marriage and family life without worry at their idyllic manor house. I am also completely in awe of the author’s incredible grasp of the politics of this era – it must have been very complicated even for those who were in the middle of it! But everything is clearly explained and I now feel I know all about it as well. This is truly an epic historical novel, well-written and researched, and I would highly recommend the whole series!

5.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly engaging
Almost as good a writer as Elizabeth Chadwick, Anna Belfrage takes you back in time with expressive detail. The third book in the series travels from England to France and back again continuing the story of the relationship between Robert and his misbegotten half-brother Eustace with chilling consequences. A brilliant read.
