Hearts In Winter (Winterville Book 2) Kindle Edition
“We’re still married…”
When her annoyingly gorgeous ex-husband walks back into her life eight years after their divorce, those are the last word Everley expects to hear.
Their marriage only lasted a year. They burned bright and crashed – and they both thought they’d moved on.
Shame somebody forgot to file the papers.
Now Dylan is back in town for a few months – taking a break from his work as a doctor overseas – and he’s determined to clear up the mess.
The only problem is, the more time he spends with Everley, the more he remembers how good they were together.
And the chemistry between them is too explosive to ignore.
As Christmas approaches, and Dylan is due to leave town for his job once more, Everley finds herself wondering - is it possible to fall out of love with your husband a second time?

About the author

Carrie Elks writes contemporary romance with a sizzling edge. Her first book, Fix You, has been translated into eight languages and made a surprise appearance on Big Brother in Brazil. Luckily for her, it wasn’t voted out. Carrie lives with her husband, two lovely children and a larger-than-life black pug called Plato. When she isn’t writing or reading, she can be found baking, drinking an occasional (!) glass of wine, or chatting on social media.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 14, 2021After reading Welcome to Winterville, I couldn't wait for Everly and Dylan's story!! This book was everything I was hoping for and more!!! Such a wonderful love story about 2 people who desperately loved each other but were afraid to completely give themselves over to it.
Everly is such a wonderful, strong female character. Loved meeting her in Holly's story and really enjoyed getting to know her better. She has the flair for the dramatics, but she is a performer. She is so much like her Grandmother, Candy, except she lacks the complete confidence that her Grandmother possessed. Which means she sometimes needs to be talked off the ledge by the people that care about her the most.
Dylan is a doctor and Everly's ex-husband. Or is he actually her ex? That's the loaded question! The problem is that he doesn't actually want to be her ex, since he is still deeply in love with her. This is where the meat of the story lies!!! Two people who are soulmates but let outside circumstances and their pasts get in the way. It was a wild ride watching them navigate their way to their HEA!!!
I loved this book, so much!!! I hated to see it end, mainly because I would love to visit Winterville and the people that live there! And the Winter family is simply amazing!! My only complaint is that I have to wait until February to go back to Winterville!!!

- Reviewed in the United States on November 19, 2024This was a good book. Pretty well written and had that spark to keep me going! It did seem to drag on a bit with both MC’s taking awhile to get their head straight especially the MMC. Worth the read!

- Reviewed in the United States on December 2, 2021A second chance romance that focuses on how our pasts relationships that we had or didn't have in our formative years shape our present and future relationships. Dylan and Everly married young and weren't equipped to handle the challenges of dealing with the damage from past relationships. After several years they made their way back to each other and put the work into rebuilding their marriage.
One of my favorite series by Carrie is The Heartbreak Brothers and it's nice to see cameos and honorable mentions of the brothers.
This is book two of a series but can be read as a standalone. However, you'd be doing yourself a disservice to miss the rest of the series.
No cliffhanger
- Reviewed in the United States on April 23, 2024Loved this book. This story could easily be turned into a Hallmark movie. Loved the main characters and depth of their love for each other.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 31, 2023Eight years ago they were married and then divorced. However, Dylan's Dad never mailed the divorce papers in to be filed. Fast forward to now and they find out they're still married and still need to file for divorce. Can they rekindle their love or is it too late?
- Reviewed in the United States on November 30, 2021I’m a sucker for sweet, second chance romance stories. This series is fantastic so far and one I recommend you read. It’s full of so many feelings that will tug at your heart strings and make you not want it to end. Dylan and Everley have that connection you dream of but life and thoughts interrupt. If you want to know what happens, make sure to click this. It’s one not to miss.

5.0 out of 5 stars divorced from the love of their lives.
I previously read Holly and Josh’s story and thought it was amazing but Evie and Dylan are on another level. This made me feel gooey inside, it was beautiful, sad, happy and quite steamy, enough to thaw Wintervilles snow. Just love the camaraderie between the family, how a true loving family should be like. The story just flowed into perfection. Told from both povs which I’m always a fan of. Gabe ( the player) has his work cut out for him keeping away from his new houseguest and that’s where I’m off to next. Gorgeous series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it!
This was the first ever Carrie Elks book that I read (yes, I skipped the first book in the series, because the story in the second one was calling more to me) and I must say I fell in love with her writing. It is so easy to read, the story flows naturally and the dual POV are really well executed!
Dylan and Everley have my whole heart. I fell in love with both of their characters as individuals first, which is rare in my case. I am not always a fan of second chance romances, but this story was so well done. You trully understand why they had to go their seperate way the first time and you root for them every step of the way to heal their wounds and find their way back to each other as you have no doubt about their love for one another from start to finish. They grew together, learnt to better communicate and committed themselves to put in the effort every day to become better individuals and a stronger couple! It is trully a story of two every-day-people learning that relationships require work every single day which makes them relatable. I loved, loved them! And I loved the entire ensemble of the book, so will definitely be continuing with the rest of the books! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars An emotional, heartwarming and beautiful story
Everley and Dylan were married when they were young but they wanted to pursue their own careers and circumstances led them to walking away from one another and following their dreams.
8 years later, they meet again when Dylan returns to his home town of Winterville for Christmas and also to deliver some unexpected news to the young woman he has never forgotten.
Their undeniable physical attraction to one another is as strong as it ever was, so will they be able to walk away from each other once again or rekindle the flame that never really died in the 8 years that they were apart?
An emotional and heartwarming second chance romance that will give you all the feels and have you falling in love with Everley and Dylan.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, match up great with the rest of the winterville series
I liked it. Both the story and characters are good and believable. I like the flow of the story, I would like more of the story but I loved what I got to read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Heart's in winter
It was a good read but a lot of it seemed very unnecessary drama, i thought she completely over reacted at the conflict point and he said some things that didn't even get addressed at the make up stage so whilst good, it wasn't great for me.
