Caroline James always wanted to write, but instead of taking a literary route, she followed a career in the hospitality industry, which included owning a pub and a beautiful country house hotel. She was also a media agent representing celebrity chefs. When she finally glued her rear to a chair and began to write, the words flowed, and several novels later, she gained many bestseller badges for her books.

Her popular bestseller, The Cruise, is described as ‘Girl power for the over-sixties! ' Caroline's next hilarious novel about having fun being young at sea is The Cruise Club, which will be published in the summer of 2025.

Caroline’s hilarious novels include The French Cookery School, The Spa Break, and The Best Boomerville Hotel, which is depicted as ‘Britain’s answer to the Best Marigold Hotel’.

She likes to write in Venus, her holiday home on wheels, and in her spare time, she walks with Fred, her Westie, or swims in a local lake. Caroline is a member of the Romantic Novelists Association, the SOA, and the Society of Women’s Writers & Journalists and writes short stories and articles, contributing to many publications.

I read so many different genres in literature, but deep in my heart, light-hearted, easy-going mystery/sleuthing with a sprinkle of sex and romance, and a duck named Drake, are what i truth enjoy. So well-written, not taking itself too seriously, and yet still offering me something today learn about as it is set in a beautiful region known as Cumbria in the UK. I also learned different English terms for regional foods like Rock cake, Victoria sandwich, bacon butties, and "fancies," which i never truly identified from Chrome. Loved this book and bought three more from Carolyn James.

I found this book to be funny, fun, enjoyable, cozy murder mystery that is filled with characters that were well detailed and well imagined. This book is set in Hollywood, England, which is a small village in the Cumbria area. Hattie has been bequeathed a little cottage from her deceased aunt, which she needs to renovate it and then she plans to turn it into an investigation service. I loved the descriptions. I felt that the plot was excellent and that It was an entertaining cozy mystery.Hattie is a fantastic main character. She is a young 50 some year-old and acquires an awesome pet duck, that non stop follows her around, she names him Drake. I found that part of the novel to be adorable. It just adds an elements of warmth, humor and lightheadedness to the story..The mystery itself was great I honestly didn't solve the mystery until almost the end, which I found to be enjoyable. I felt that this part of the novel especially was extremely well written. Color me a fan of Caroline James!! It won't be the only book I read by her. Overall I felt this to be a fun, funny, cozy and I really, really enjoyed it. I definitely recommend it.

A funny, enjoyable, murder mystery with characters that were fantastically written! This book is set in Hollywood, England, a small village in the Cumbria area. Hattie has been left with a little cottage, which she renovated and then into an Investigation service. Caroline James brought me into this story. I loved the descriptions. Not too much, but enough to give me a sense of place.

Hattie is a great main character. She is young at heart and has an awesome pet duck, named Drake! I loved that aspect of the novel. It just added an element of humor and light heartedness.

The mystery was great. I had trouble coming up with the solution until Hatrie solved it. This part of the novel was really well written. Consider me a fan.

The romance was a bit of a whirlwind, but it still felt real. I think the author handled this really well to keep it going into “instaromance” territory.

Overall, the was a fun, quirky novel that I really enjoyed!

Worth investing your time in ! The only problem with Caroline's books is I don't want to put them down! And I feel a slight sense of dread as I come to the end. A firm favourite, very talented!
