Interview with the author

Q: What are the biggest challenges you faced while continuing this fantasy series?
A: To combine my ideas in a way that make sense and at the same time making it an emotional story with compelling characters. I wrote the first draft within one and a half months, much faster than the first part of the series. Afterward, it was sometimes tough not to lose motivation during the rewriting phase, which took the rest of the year.

Q: What kept you going?
A: I said that I would publish HOP2 one year after HOP1 and wanted to keep my word. Plus, I have an amazing launch team with beta readers. It was always fun to try to implement their suggestions and they helped to improve the story a great deal.

Q: What can the fans look forward to in Rise of the Siren?
A: It's still a paranormal romance novel and so the love between Nathalie and Alex deepens and their relationship further develops. We also learn more about Luke and Melissa's story and why he became a male Siren. But the best thing is that there is a lot more magic in this book than in the first one. We really dive into a different world with magical creatures and supernatural elements. Harry Potter meets Divergent.

Q: Who won't like your story?
A: What do you mean? Everybody will love this urban fantasy! :) Okay, it's not for people who want a dark story with a lot of sex. The characters in Heart of Power face challenges and there is tension but it's a teenage romance novel and therefore written without the use of graphic violence or sex but still with a lot of suspense around these mythical creatures.

Q: Of course, we are already waiting for the third part of the trilogy. When will you have it ready?
A: I hope that again I can write it within a year. But first, I need a break. I will go travel in Asia some more and collect new ideas. Myanmar is calling and I must go. Plus, I'll visit China, the mother country of superstition, and collect as much good luck as I can. I need it in the publishing world so that people find my books with all the Amazon Bestsellers that are already around. You can help by spreading the word and writing a good review. Thank you.

S. L. Giger loves traveling, salsa dancing, surfing, scuba diving and chocolate. At the moment, she really enjoys living in Zurich, since she has nice students, it's beautiful in the summertime, there is a lot of chocolate and it's only a 7min train ride from the airport ;)

    This is perhaps the most unique paranormal story I've read. I hadn't read the first book in the series so I felt a little behind the power curve in the first part of the book. I more commonly find stories where there is one or two paranormal type of creatures whereas this story has Sirens as the primary paranormal creatures but offers glimpses of other types in the story. I greatly enjoyed the part where a library for use by all the paranormal races was hidden under the human library and that all who entered became invisible except for the lamps they carried - brilliant way to prevent any conflicts. In the story, someone evil has developed a highly aggressive virus that destroys the victim during the night in order to make the human world believe those who practiced "magic" were to blame. The small group of Sirens must stop the virus but need to develop a way to create more male Sirens to help. There is a bit of a cliff-hanger as the first male volunteer for the change reacts to the injection. I'm impressed that a full time teacher can find the energy to create such a vivid fantasy world at the end of academic endeavors and I hope to read more by this author!

    The Heart of Power trilogy is an enchanting and refreshingly original take on the life and times of a teenage siren in the 21st century.

    In the first installment, we meet Natalie, an ordinary seventeen-year-old girl, enjoying a school trip with her crush. All is going well until a tragic accident claims the life of Natalie’s crush and leaves her near death. Luckily for her, a group of nearby sirens find her just in time and rather than let her die, they change her into a mystical beauty with supernatural powers. The author creates an authentic protagonist, whose maturity and wit are refreshing. Learning all about the sirens and living through all of Natalie’s ups and downs as she navigates her new life and falls in love with a human is well worth the read!

    Book Two of the Heart of Power trilogy continues along without skipping a beat. In this exciting installment, we really get to know Natalie and are able to watch as her relationship with Alex blossoms. We also get to learn more about siren lore and the author weaves together a fun and wondrous world where an awesome, supernatural library and other cool mythical beings exist. Moreover, the underlying plot of a mysterious illness killing off humans and sending people into a worldwide panic is profound and kept me on the edge of my seat.

    Natalie and her siren family make a great team and I can’t wait to see how they save the day in the final installment.

    My second read from author S.L. Giger. A different spin on the siren legend set in modern times. I don't do spoilers but this is a well-written, enjoyable read with unexpected twists from the first book in the series. Best of all there's a third book in what is to be a trilogy. I have to get this book to read and review!

    A very fast paced sequel that gets you hooked right away. I didn't have much time to think about the book until I finished it. I enjoyed that the characters were developed more and their background comes more to light as well. The interactions between characters seems realistic as well. For me the characters and the plot are the most important things in a story and both were on point!
