4.2 out of 5 stars 11 ratings

Andrea Zissman was brought up by her strict grandmother and never knew the truth about her family. When her mother dies at a special care home, the only legacy she leaves her daughter is a mysterious envelope full of old photos. Andrea finds out that her father, a scientist who studied the energy of Aurora Borealis, didn’t die in an avalanche in the French Alps, but was killed by members of some mysterious neo-Nazis’ colony somewhere on a remote Icelandic island. Moreover, she has an older brother she has never seen before. Desperate to find her brother and bring to justice her father’s murderers, Andrea meets Leon Callais, a flamboyant, scandalous journalist, who is on the hunt for the Nazi super weapon “Nothung”, a device which can open a portal to other dimensions. He believes that death of Andrea’s father and “Nothung” are connected. The investigation leads Andrea and Leon to Iceland where they are determined to discover the truth about the neo-Nazis’ colony, its secret weapon, and Andrea’s family. However, the colonists give them an extremely cold welcome. Now, they need to fight not only for the truth but also for their own lives.

I just finished "His Personal Reich" I love how the story evolves and the title fits the book perfectly! Science fiction and History combine to make a great story.I'm usually pretty good at predicting what will happen next, but there were several twists that really surprised me. A Nazi reincarnation denied!

The premis of the story is cool along with the plot, however, this book has issues with dialog and an overall choppy story flow. It needs additional storyline and dialog editing.

This is the first book I have read by L. Salt and I loved it. It was a mystery thriller with lots of twists and turns. Ardrea Zissman is alone her grandmother has died and now she get some information about her life that is a shock. Andrea isn't whom she thought she was. All her life her grandmother told her how her father left and never came back. That her mother was never married. Well, the envelope in the safety deposit box says different, a marriage license and half of a picture of her father and a young boy. Now, Andrea is on a journey to find out what happened to her brother and father. Ardrea meets Leon Callais who is a journalist that has been researching her father and his experiments. Ardrea and Leon go on a journey that takes them to Iceland to find a group of Neo-Nazi's who have an experimental machine called 'Nothung'. They get to the Island Midgardur off the coast of Island. That's where the book gets really interesting. Will Ardrea find her brother and find out what her father really was doing in Iceland? L. Salt has a great knowledge of history and that makes the book even more worth reading.

This book was a bit different than any other book that I've ever read before, I think that's one of the reasons I enjoyed it so much. It was quite entertaining for sure. It was a fast paced quick read that was packed full of action and suspense.

I was so very conflicted on how to rate this book. As an action/thriller it does not disappoint. There is non-stop action from the very beginning as the first page pulls readers in with mystery and intrigue. Between the threats of Nazis and an erupting volcano, there is a feeling that Andrea and Leon may be killed at any minute. The plot line is there mostly there with its exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution. The story itself, or I should say the idea of the story, is fantastic!

Where it falls short is within its brevity. At 22,000 words and a little over 50 pages, there is simply not enough. The story reads more like a movie script in which relationships must be formed quickly and epiphanies must be made within 120 minutes. The relationships and conflicts between characters are filled with potential that demand at least double the page length. Due to the brevity, some moments feel forced, especially Andrea's forgiveness at the end of the story. Additionally, while all the "key" elements are there, I wish Salt had included the in-between stuff, the sub-plots that really develop characters (showing not telling).

As far as criticism goes however, it is not the worst to hear that your readers were disappointed by the brevity and wanted more of the story.

I am really enjoying this book. it is a unique and creative story line. This book reminds me of the TV Series Zero Hour ( which I was hooked on!!) This book is jammed pack with history, mystery, drama, and even a bit of romance.

Once I started this book, i could not put it down. L. Salt is a new author on the block and has made me a fan with her debut. I look forward to reading more from her in the near future!!

I highly recommend this book..especially to historical fiction fans.
