From the author

As parents, it seems like we always have to be reminding our children of some dos or don’ts: “Did you wash your hands?” “Don’t bite your nails!” ”Eat everything on your plate! (Yes, the vegetables too!)” “Take a shower!” “Brush your teeth!” So the idea for this book came out, to serve as a reminder of those messages we must repeat a thousand times before they come across.

Before 2020, most small kids caught colds without giving them too much thought. But the world pandemic has brought awareness to the youngest minds, so this book aims at empowering the children, showing them that there are things they can actually do to stay healthy longer.
When children know of what they can do, they get some sense of control and anxiety can be reduced.

Let children accompany Monster as he learns about
how to keep germs at bay and get some great healthy habits that kids can carry on throughout their lives!

Hi! I am Edymar, author of “The Monster Who Loved Throwing Stones” and "The Monster Who Didn't Know Halloween," a journalist and a proud mom.

While I have always loved written words and I have quite a few notebooks filled with notes and unfinished drafts with different stories, I never took a step further with them. It was not until my five-year-old boy told me the story of a monster “who loved throwing stones,” and I started writing it for him and his two-year-old sister, that it clicked that I had to finally get my stories (in this case our story) out to the world.

This is just the beginning; there are more Monster books to unveil. And now I am more confident that many of the other stories and novels scribbled in my notebooks will finally see the light of day.

A bit more about me...

- I'm Venezuelan by birth, though love led me to Norway a few years ago. I am happily married to an awesome Norwegian man and have two wonderful kids and a now grown up bonus son.

- I lived in the USA for five years, while going to school in Northfield Mount Hermon School, in Massachusetts, where I learned English (I have the fondest memories of my year there!) and in Denison University, in Ohio, where I majored in Mass Communication and Cinema. I also lived half a year in Mexico, in the beautiful city of Guadalajara.

- In addition to Spanish (my mother tongue) and English, I speak Norwegian, so you will be likely seeing Spanish and Norwegian editions of my books in the future.

Learn along with Monster just what it takes to stay healthy! A lot of recent kids books have focused on avoiding viruses and other germs, but this book covers a lot more information about being healthy. I especially like how it addresses a range of topics, like exercising and how to take care of your body, while also talking about germs and hygiene. This book would be a good way to talk about healthy bodies with your kids!

A wonderful educational book that is a must read for sure! I love that this book covers all the ways children and adults can stay safe and healthy.

Children will love trying to find the different types of germs on the pages. Great follow-up questions at the end to ask our children and to engage them on how important it is to stay healthy.

Very good advise for all of us on staying healthy. Great illustrations, too. Activity pages in back, an extra bonus.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

I enjoyed this book presenting ways to stay healthy all the time. Yes, it was released during a pandemic, but this text looks to keep children practicing good hygiene and behaviors regardless of threat. Love the illustrations!

What a useful book especially in times like this! It makes it just a bit more fun when explaining to my kids why personal hygiene practices are so important now. We have already read the other books in the Monster series so this book was a great way to engage in a rather difficult topic with younger kids (who think that washing hands is a chore). It's a rather long book so we don't read it all in one setting but it makes for fun little reading sessions every now and then. Very educational!

I received a free advanced copy of this book for review purposes but this has not affected my thoughts on it.

This book is perfect for kids to learn about keeping healthy. Not just in terms of the pandemic, but for all times. The illustrations are super cute and it includes links to get some related fun activities. Just a sweet and very relevant story for kids today.

I received a free advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This is a thorough look at what children - and monsters - can do to stay healthy. Monster learns what he can do to keep germs away.

A fun and sweet way into awareness of viruses and how they could spread. Love the illustrations! I received a free advanced copy of this book for review purposes but this has not affected my thoughts.

Somewhere between a story book and a kids guide on being healthy, in this book a young family teach a monster how to be healthy and avoid getting sick. There are so many good lessons in this rhyming story.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great way to introduce kids to a whole load of healthy lifestyle options!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 9, 2020
The cute illustrations and wealth of information in this book are a great way to introduce kids to a whole load of healthy lifestyle options. Everything from hand washing to heavy lifting and sun protection gets a mention!

During the current pandemic, kids are bound to be more curious about health and hygiene, and will need to take extra measures that parents probably never even considered in the past. This picture book offers a helpful way to introduce such things to younger children in an age-appropriate and non-scary way.

A great little book to read with kids, especially in the current climate. Each page tackles a different way to stay healthy and happy. The drawings are very sweet and there are extra items to click on for pop up text in the kindle version.

3.0 out of 5 stars A fun read sadly a little bit too long for toddlers
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 19, 2020
This book has beautiful illustrations and is a gentle rhyming read. However, we feel it is a little bit too long for really young children. It could almost have been split into two of maybe three books. It covers the subjects of personal hygiene, healthy eating, exercise, lifting, and other things that could make you ill. There are also some science facts at the end, along with some downloadable/printable activities.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Information, A Bit Long
Reviewed in Canada on September 1, 2020
This book has a lot of information that is good for kids to learn about, from protecting yourself from germs to protecting your eyes from the sun, to protecting your spine from heavy lifting. However it is quite long, so it may be more suitable for older kids. There is a bit too much text for the short attention span of kindergarteners, I found
