Heart Strain: Interlocking Fragments I Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 874 ratings

Holden knows his brother’s best friend shouldn’t be an option, but Jameson is too hard to resist.

Holden~

When I get a call that my twin brother’s been shot, I’m in shock as I head back to Baltimore to be with him. Seeing him in a coma is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do; sitting here not knowing whether he’s going to live or die is the worst thing I can imagine. But at least Jameson is with me—he makes it more bearable, and I don’t feel like I’m in this alone. With everything going on, I probably shouldn’t be checking out my brother’s work partner, but I can’t seem to help it. Jameson’s been so sweet and kind and considerate; not to mention he’s so sexy I can’t keep my eyes off him.

Jameson~

My partner getting shot and ending up in a coma brings everything in my world to a screeching halt. He’s not only my partner on the police force, but my best friend and confidant. When I see his twin brother, Holden, sitting in the waiting room, I’m overwhelmed with gratitude that he neither blames me nor pushes me away. Now I’m doing my best to take care of him and support him; if only I’d stop noticing how his emotions reflect in his eyes and wondering how it would feel to touch him.

Will the bonding that takes place during their long bedside vigils become more than they expected? Can they be honest enough with themselves and each other to take it to the next level? And if they do, will Holden be willing to sacrifice the life he loves for the brother he’s kept at arm’s length for almost ten years and the man who could end up being his everything?

Heart Strain is the first book in the Interlocking Fragments series, but is a standalone novel. Each book in the series will feature a different couple, but the couples will show up throughout the whole series. This is a contemporary romance intended for 18+.

The slowly blossoming romance between the two main characters is sweet and hearwarming. The writing quality is great, and the worldbuilding is spectuacular. Beyond the main characters, there's a cast of side characters that clearly all have their own stories to tell (and most do in later books in the series). There's just enough obstacles -- both from the hurt/comfort theme and with both characters facing demons from their past -- to keep the story from being overly fluffy.

Speaking for the series as a whole, I loved how interconnected all the characters are- they have a wonderful biologcial-and-chosen-family dynamic! We continue to see Holden and Jameson's relationship develop in the subsequent books, and most/all of the main characters for the series are introduced in this first installment. There's even a subtle but persistent overarching plot related to a police investigation and Jameson's family history.

I really liked the story. The only downside I have is it quite "long in The tooth" so to speak. Some little crap I just don't need or frankly want to know. I'm mean you made them eating out as integral to the story as his brothers recovery that's crazy. Jameson was just so great. I loved him from the start. I really dislike his family. Holden on the other hand I loved his devotion to Hendrix but his treatment of Jameson kinda was shaty. I mean it's ok to "bone" him but no relationship cause he don't do relationships. It was kinda childish and immature. Can't wait to read Hendrix story. I hope it's good cause I already like him a lot. As for Gavin whom I know is gonna end up with Hendrix. He seems a little whiny and overdramatic but he may have some better qualities you don't get much time to learn about him in this book. But gotta love his loyalty to Holden to do everything he's done for him.

As some have mentioned, there are moments that seem to drag out a bit or a moment is overly detailed/explained. Those moments were thankfully spread out but looking back, they also made the book more natural. Us as readers sometimes want the cliff notes but when I imagine myself in either of the characters positions I would be taking in the scene the same way, or would tell a story the same. I really enjoyed both of these characters. I’m sure we’re gonna see more of Jameson’s family as they seem to be quite the antagonists (at least some of them) and I look forward to some resolution between the twins. I look forward to reading the next book in the series! 🖤🖤

I have yet to read a book or story written, or co-written, by Ms. Notaro that I didn't love and this is no exception. It has all the classic hallmarks of her writing: realistic, relatable and lovable characters; a compelling storyline and, of course, a little bit of steamy thrown in for good measure.

I have been privileged in the past to beta read for Ms. Notaro, although not for this book. However, this did not influence this review in any way. I would love this book regardless, and honestly I barely put it down for the past 24 hours or less that it took me to read it. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

I thought the storyline was solid, the characters were well developed, and the author gave the story time to develop and not rush through things. However, there were a few places that dragged on for me and a few places that got hokey.

When I read the blurb for this book I was really excited… I’m married to a police officer so I live the life. I know that it’s a story but some things didn’t line up with real life. Anyway… the relationship between Holden and Jameson was great. I liked that they supported each other while dealing with Drix’s injuries. This is a bit of a slowish burn so be ready for that.

The only “issues” that I had were:
Holden rarely acknowledged that he knew Jameson before he came back to see his brother. They went to high school together. I just didn’t understand that.
Drix and Holden never discussed their relationship with each other. Maybe it will be discussed in a future book… but it leaves you wondering.
Jameson’s relationship with his brother… kind of confusing towards the end. Again, left wondering.
I understand that Gavin is getting his own book but his neediness really isn’t even touched on in this story. I’m sure he had a difficult past but sometimes I was just a bit over it.

I really liked the story and will read Gavin’s story as I have an idea who the other MC will be…

I wish I could give this book 10 stars, it is one of the best over developed stories that I have read in a long time. Yes their is great worry and hurt on Holdon's part, as his brother lays on death's door in the hospital. As well as his partner, Jameson's gut wrenching guilt, because he blames himself for not responding fast enough to the shooting.
This is a truly well written, poignant story of a true love found, a brother's love for each other rekindled and old friendships strengthened and new one deeloped. For this reader; this was one of those books that I started and found that I just could not put down to do my usual daily routines, I had to sit and finish it in one reading! I really enjoyed this book and I am so looking forward to book 2, hopefully it will be coming out soon. An avid reader in Rock Tavern, NY.

I really enjoy the books these authors write together and Heart Strain is another fantastic read.
Jameson and Holden are sweet and completely likeable characters who shared an amazing connection. I loved them and found myself lost in the story.
I'm smiling at the appearance of the Everette Brothers and I think it's time for a re-read of Love Never Ending!!

This book was awesome, the realism of the book was awesome. First book I have read in a long time that I read every word and didnt even notice until I was at the end. Jameson and Holden were perfect. Loved everything about the story. It didnt focus on one thing or was all about sexy times or they never spoke to there friends again. It was really nice read, brilliant.

Two MC who went through hell and who find in each other their redemption. They give love a chance when Holden meets his twinvbrother's partner and vice versa. It is a book where the family is awful, especially for Jameson. They were both harassed by people who should love them unconditionnaly and not being mean, aggressive or demand for a conversion therapy.

After the first drama of this story for me it seemed to drag, it had the beginnings of a budding romance but waaay slowly. But then it improved and I fell into the story whole-heartedly. Holden and Jameson finally begin to express their feelings, more so after Holdens brother finally awakens from his coma. There are several stories running in this besides the main romance, the abrupt ending leaves you wondering about loose ending, which I hope will be tied up in the following books in this series. My first with this author and I really like her style.
