Heel (Working Out The Kinks Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 990 ratings

“I’ve never thought of calling a man Daddy before, but I can’t think of a word that fits Vale better. He’s my Daddy, and I’m his pup.”

Broken and bruised, there’s nothing I won’t do to protect Adrian.

I picked him up and made him whole before, and I’ll do it again. Adrian is a sweet pup with a smile full of sunshine and a heart made for love. A sweet pup needs a gentle hand, and that’s exactly what I intend to give him.

There’s nothing quite like slipping an expensive pair of high heels onto Adrian’s feet and watching him light up. If he wants a fairytale, I’ll happily be his Prince Charming.

*** Heel is the second book in the Working Out the Kinks series but can be read as a stand-alone. This book contains a scene of domestic violence. This book also contains an adorable man who loves to be a puppy, fabulous high heels, and the happily ever after Adrian deserves.

K.M. Neuhold is a complete romance junkie. bisexual and polyamorous, she often describes herself as being in love with love. She loves to write stories full of bearded, cinnamon roll men who get super swoony HEAs. Her philosophy is there’s so much angst and sadness for LGBT characters in media, all she wants is to give them the happiest happily ever afters she can with little angst, tons of humor, and SO MUCH STEAM. K.M. fully admits to her tendencies of making sure every side character has a full backstory that will likely always lead to every book turning into a series or spin-off. When she's not writing she's a lion tamer, an astronaut, and a superhero...just kidding, she's likely watching Netflix and snuggling with her huskies while her amazing husband brings her coffee.

This is the first book for me in the series and I loved Adrian, his outlook on life was amazing even after being pushed down for so long by Nathan. Forcing himself to get past it and slowly analyse what went wrong and how long it actually had been wrong.

Vale is like every other mature Dom that finds himself drawn to someone so much younger, anguishing over the age difference amongst other things, using excuses to why things shouldn't happen and making it even better when he finally gives in.
Vale was the perfect Dom and Daddy. The sweet small things he did for Adrian, painting his nails and fastening the strap of his heels when they were out. I do love a caring Dom and Vale was everything one should be when he allowed himself to be one.

I liked reading about a pup that had been one for a long time, it's different from the ones just starting out and discovering the kink. Having a persona in place already and easily going in to that head space.

The story is sweet and shows the aftermath of an abusive relationship, it was done well.

As soon as I finished reading Stay, I knew it wouldn't be long before I jumped into this one. I hated how Adrian was treated by his master in Stay and I needed him to find his HEA. That became even more vital at the beginning of this book. That opening scene was hard to read. I'm very much a "don't mess with my MC" kind of reader so I wanted to do major damage to the ex. Moving past that, I loved that Lars and Jonah stepped in and gave him a place to start to heal. Moving him into Vale's house provided the catalyst for their relationship to ignite. I really loved how Vale gave him the space to fully heal and how he helped him to feel comfortable as "Diva" again.

I liked Stay with Jonah and Lars which why I binged right into Heel. I really enjoyed this one.
A young man homeless, gay, and not understanding his feelings until he saw puppy porn.
Vale takes this homeless puppy in. Trains him. Adrian was crushing on Vale but was in love with him already. When he kisses Vale. Vale rejected him. In doing that, he sent him into the worst hands. A Dom who took his money and spent it on cocaine. A Dom who belittled Adrian at every chance he could get. He punished him all the time and told him that was not how good puppies behaved. He truly missed with Adrian's psyche and mental health. But it became noticeable when he actually abused him physically. He broke his arm fairly badly to require a cast for 8 full weeks. Jonah who was a friend now but also an ER doc, tried to get him to report the injury. Adrian kept saying it was an accident until Lars came in and talked to him about his life and his family. He was finally honest that Nathan, his boyfriend, broke his arm but he was not going to say something because Nathan would be upset.
Nathan was more than a little upset he went to the ER for Xrays and a cast and began to choke Adrian. He choked him so hard he almost lost consciousness. ADRIAN got away and to a busy area. He had no shoes but he did call Dr. Jonah. Jonah and Lars came and got him and he stayed in their guest room for awhile.
He went to Vale when Nathan came after him again. Vale who previously did not believe in love, believed. Adrian stayed with Vale and just like before he taught him how to trust people. The 2 of them grew closer until soon enough they were having sex. But when Vale gives Adrian a collar, tag and a lock; He was telling Adrian he was it. There would be no one else ever.
The two grew closer than ever. Until Nathan got out and tried to hurt him again. Nathan now serves 10 years.
Adrian and Vale...Vale proposes with a silver and pink diamond ring Adrian of course says yes. Vale also gives Adrian full rights to paint and change the home decor. He also has ADRIAN doing all of his spreadsheets for him now because Adrian is so good at it.
I love this story because Adrian has fought the pain of nothingness, has has fought true evil and come out the other side and back to the love of his life, Vale.
    Highly recommend this series!

Ms. Neuhold is an amazing author with exceptional talent and a great imagination.
This story had me invested from the beginning. Adrian was such a sweetheart and I could help but root for him. And Vale? He was this amazing man who wants to help others but can't get past the fear of losing his heart to a young man he helped years ago.
I've never understood some kinks, but honestly, Puppy Play seems so kind and sweet. And in the end, some of us just want someone to nurture us and give us unconditional love and care. It's opened my eyes to see what others need in a nonjudgmental way.
The story is great, the interaction between characters is wonderful and the love between Adrian and Vale is palpable. I highly recommend this book and the previous book, Stay.

5.0 out of 5 stars Adrian gets his happy ever after!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on August 4, 2019
So we met Adrian in Stay and I’m so glad that we get his story. We learn about his past, how he first met Vale and how he got into puppy play. Going forward some years we find how he’s moved on with his life and how not everything is perfect. He takes a stand and moves on with his life though he’s still scarred from what he has been through.

I loved the glimpse of Adrian in Stay - he seemed such a fun character, so to see that Heel was going to be his story made me so happy. From our glimpse of him I’d have never realised what he went though in his past...which made him being such a happy person all the more special. Vale is amazing - such a calm and confident handler and the fact that he does training sessions for puppies shows that he knows how to work with pups who’ve had some troubling things happen. I loved how he and Adrian came together, and how he truly understood him and Diva.

I loved the cameos of other characters, from Jonah and Lars from Stay to Anderson and Ryan from the short Watch Me and the fact that the fantastic author has introduced plenty of other characters who’s stories that I now need!

A fantastic read and a worthy follow up to Stay - which is one of my top few books of recent times, so that tells you how good Heel is!

5.0 out of 5 stars Der zweite Teil

Ok so I kind of fell in love with Adrian when we met him in Stay and I’m so glad he got his HEA. I adored the dynamic between Adrian and Vale, I loved cheeky Adrian 🧡. This author is an auto one click for me and I’m so glad he’s decided to write Puppy Play books as I love them and she does it so damn well, but this one has the added bonus of being a Daddy/Puppy book which makes it doubly awesome. The character and story development is on point, they don’t just fall into bed together, first we have to get past a few obstacles, Adrian’s horrid ex, Vale believing he is too old for Adrian and judging Adrian’s feelings for him wrongly. So many feels, my heart broke for Adrian but then Vale came along and mended it. I’m also a bit intrigued by the supporting characters Reese and Ash, what’s going on with these two, I need to know.

I really love this story. It was a sweet and adorable story. It might have started ruff, but it ends with a great HEA. You will love the characters, I really love them. This story can be relatable on many levels than just the puppy play.

This book is worth the read for sure.
